    I came across this video looking for a demo of the newest version of this, and it was such a pleasure to listen to. I'm not a "chug" guy, but you have this dialed in incredibly well. Very tight and punchy. Most guys these days, use WAY too much gain, and it causes whatever amp being used to sound like muddy, fizzy, garbage. This was very well done.

      Thanks!! 15 years later this video still gets comments!! :-P. I dont think the new one is going to be exactly the same, as the transformers are no longer able to be sourced....this amp is from 1990...:D. I still have it even though I stopped playing guitar about a decade ago....I cant bring myself to let it go even though a number of people have tried to snag it from me. If you do a search for "James Lugo Amp Fest 2013 High Gain 1" you find a much better produced recording of the amp in a professional environment vice me recoding it with a tiny Canon G7 camera from 15 years ago... 😛

      @@redrider0151 Hey….great tone, is great tone. It’s still why, to this day, I love listening to two of my favorite albums for tone (well 3 actually) Fair Warning, Invasion of Your Privacy, and Contagious (Dave Meniketti). What I find odd is how many amp companies are out there today making amps based on those tones, and yet NO ONE dials them in like that. But, I digress…. With that being a Mike Soldano original, I’d be buried with it! Most SLO fans will say that the new one’s don’t compete with the DeYoung transformers (and I think they’re right to a certain degree). But, the B.A.D one’s still sound very, very good. And, I heard an SLO Synergy setup (with the Synergy power amp) on Neddi Stanz’s channel that sounded spectacular, as well. *Yes! I saw that James Lugo video! There were several KILLER amps in those videos, btw. Personally, I’d rather hear it in this setting, because when things are “professionally done”, you have NO idea what they’ve done to it to make it sound good. But, yeah, that was a really good video. Wasn’t that particular SLO George Lynch’s, if memory serves??? Sorry to hear you stopped playing…I hope that was done on your terms. I went through the same thing with playing drums (my body just can’t take it anymore).*

    Nothing better than playing Megadeth and Iced Earth to showcase the highgain abilities of this gem ! Cheers from Morocco.

    @99mmpick Search the Jet City JCA100h. It is a copy of a Soldano Hot Rod 100, which has an identical lead circuit to the SLO-100. The only difference between the Jet City and the Soldano is that the Jet City is Chinese made, as opposed to American Hand-wired. As of right now, the standard JCA100h head is $599 at Musicians Friend, and the HDM version (metal grill + depth knob) is $799.

    it takes 4 spaces in the rack. they are increasingly hard to find in a rack mount because they were all done way back in the early 90's. it's the one amp that will never leave :-)

    @TerryPantheras THe SLO has 5881's in it (Sovteks I beleive...). The Deizel has 2 vintage 30's and 2 Deizel speakers in it (I believe they are rebranded Celestions, but not sure of the exact model....they sound great so I never really looked into it since they arent going anywhere..LOL) For the record, its not me playing, its my neighbor. I am more a classic rock guy and I dont hold a candle to his playing

    @99mmpick LOL Not really sure. I know the AxeFX and the Line 6 modeling stuff have SLO Models in them, the Soldano HotRod 50 is basically just the overdrive channel of the SLO if you dont want the clean channel and its half the price. you can find used heads for 2200 - 2500 dollars pretty much everywhere, but a rack mount one like mine is north of 4 grand....if you can even find one for sale. They havent been made for years and years
    There are also a ton of SLO clones out there

    @nuclearview I got it from a really good friend who is part owner of Tone Merchants in Hollywood. Its very rare that you see one of the rack mounts ever come up for sale...he has 3 of them now...one was owned by Mark Kendall of Great White...LOL A lot of the rack mounts were owned by the big bands of the 80's....so its no surprise you saw one owned by Steve. As far as selling it, I pretty much promised to give it back to the guy I got it from if I ever let it go, prolly never happen tho :D

    7 or 8 on the gain just gets it a bit heavier, while on the Master is gets my neighbors from 7 houses over knocking on my door..LOL.

    @bniersbach The AxeFx doesn't get anywhere near the tone of real distorted amp, much more less to the tone of a real SLO100. The tone of this amp is so unbelievable.

  • @BillNiersbach
    @BillNiersbach  15 років тому

    To be honest, you can look in the beginning of the video at about 45 seconds and you will see the gain is 4 1/2 and master volume is at 4...LOL...even that is SERIOUSLY LOUD...but it REALLY starts sounding good with it cranked up just one more notch, but then it starts shaking things in my house. THis is on the overdrive channel also....if I would have put it on the crunch channel it reduces a lot of the gain.

    How many spaces does it take up on the rack? 3-4?

    @metalmusiqcrzy Its my neighbor playing, not me..I am more a classic rock kind of guy and am not even remotely in the same league as the guy playing in the video.
    As far as metal...depends on what you are wanting. It can obviously do some metal but its not voiced for brutal metal (would have to slap a pedal in front for that) You'd be much better served with an ubershall or a twin jet for that and probably save 500 bux in the process.
