It's really cool to see people growing their own food. It would be great if more people acquired this habit. In addition to improving our health by consuming healthier foods, we contribute to preserving our planet by reducing the use of pesticides. Congratulations on sharing your knowledge and experience with us.
NICE beans, Jill! You got me wondering, so I checked our local price for heirloom tomatoes. Huh, I picked ( conservatively) $60.00 of tomatoes, in the last couple of days. That is a real eye opener! 😲😄this doesn't include what I have already picked and processed, and what we have been eating. It does cost up front, but, if we kept close records ( which I haven't) we all might be surprised at how fast the garden will pay for itself. Short term and long term. Now, where can I go plant more stuff? 😁
Hello my friend in Texas! We are mowing done hay today. We aren't looking for rain until June 9th. A lof the fields are really thin and the yield for hay is not good. We are blessed to have one field that is thriving and it will put us through winter. Thanking God for his blessing! I just wanted to let you know I think of you and count you as a blessing in my life! Seed saving is really important right now. Sweet corn seed is already sold out where I am.
Everything looks lush & beautiful!! I am enjoying some of my strawberries, lettuce & spinach but waiting for my beans to really get going
I have never grown any kind of beans before.. Beautiful bush beans! 🫛
Your beans look wonderful! This has been a great spring. Wish we could have more of them.
Wow!!! They look great! Good job!
love you guys, your bean patches look awesome. Keep on truckin
Love you brother Alan
I’ve never canned or grown beans so I’m looking forward to this. ❤
That there is some rough looking soil! Nice color, but very coarse. I'm in the North Ga Mountains and I'm thanking GOD for the soft, rich earth!!
You taught me a valuable lesson: Ain't no easy way to pick, just gotta lift and keep looking. Gardening is wonderful when you see one little seed turn the sun, water and dirt into precious nutrition!
wow your beans look awesome! I cooked up my first harvest this year with bacon and onions last night and they were delicious! even my kids liked them 😄 Hope I get enough to can up too!
Yay!!!
Geez those look fantastic 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤great job!! So glad your weather is good for you!!
Beautiful harvest❤
Your beans look great!
Morning Jill! Beans look excellent!
Awesome harvest!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Hey Jill, I am growing bush green beans in 2 totes, that are raised above the ground. So, far I have picked off of them a couple of times, to use for dinner, and they were so good. I plan on planting more seeds.
Your gardens look great! ❤
A neighbor gifted me 5 chicks she incubator hatched from eggs I gave her ... surprise 😳 I scrambled to setup a brooder 🙃 her son just dropped them off in a box 😜
I've started picking my purple pole beans. They're suppose to be heat tolerant. I have them on cattle panels and trellises. In two other raised beds I've interplanted okra and purple hull peas. Makes for easy picking. Kale is going great. The chickens are loving it and the purslane I let grow in my raised beds. Saves on feed. Last week a friend let me use her freeze dryer, so 4 more pounds added to the 365 challenge 😋
Thanks Jill you give me ideas.
Remember ya'll to Pray, Plan Prep
❤️❤️❤️
Good morning glory! Mine are putting on baby beans. Got them in a little late.
Excited for you!
I want to encourage you today. I pray for you and love you. Thank you for making video's. I am doing an experience this year with my garden so I haven't planted yet. Your video's still inspire me. I get to enjoy your garden. It is beautiful. Have a great day!
I planted my bush beans this year in the green stalks because of back problems. They are looking awesome and hoping for a good crop. I also have Kentucky Wonder pole beans on cow panel trellis. We are slowly getting garden in, but still staying determined even with a handicap!
I am still planting and transplanting seeds and plants. I am about 2-3 months behind but between trying to work and being in pain (health issues) I am only able to do what I can.
Hey Jill we started a little late after we harvested our onions and garlic however they are doing well. Your beans look real healthy. Your so right about the beans in the store. I was the corporate chef for Ben E Keith foods for 18 years and was able to tour several commercial farms. I was shocked at all the chemicals they used and crop dusted with. We plan to can lot's of green beans this season. We will watch your recipe. Tell Greg and Pop's hi and God bless yawl.
I love this video you gave me a lot of insight and inspiration I am now a subscriber
Thank you CC!!!
I planted some beans into a ton of my containers they are mixed in with all kinds of other stuff and they look great and their nitrogen boosted their companions. ❤❤ this is my first year to grow them.
A NICE INFORMATIVE RELAXING CHANNEL.
Thank you, Jerry
Nice
Just found your channel, and I'm in north Texas as well out by Lake Lavon. Howdy neighbor! 👋 I'm also growing lots including bush beans! I can't wait to see your video on canning them. I have an All American Pressure canner but haven't used it yet! I am kinda scared of it, so maybe you can hold my hand through the video and I'll do it!! Blessings and Much Love my dear sister!
🙏✝️🛐💜
Hey sister, of course I will hold your hand and welcome to the channel Neighbor . I’m gonna try to do the video tomorrow so we can get out ahead of your harvest.
Off the wall question----Ember Days. Have you ever heard of Ember Days? Or has anyone else?
About 4 times a year they fall on Wed. Fri. and Saturday. It is a killing time according to folklore. It is even on the old feed store calendars. Want something dead...cut it during the Ember Days and it will die---not grow back. The dates for this one is March 31, June 2, 3. So I am out chopping several things that normally grow back. Gonna see what happens.
Just wondered if you or anyone else has ever heard of this. Would be interested in any feedback.
ALL your veggies look magnificent. You and Greg and Pops work like Trojans and it shows. Those are absolutely the most beautiful green beans!! Thanks for the tips on picking, looking low. I do remember as a little kid picking bush type peas and beans and crawling along the rows pushing a bucket in front of me while picking. Jesus bless.
Hi Sandra, I have not. I’ll have to look more into that. Thank you gal so much for always supporting us.
Was going to try some bush beans in a spot that gets morning sun and afternoon shade this summer. Experiment - we'll see if it works. Blessing!
I'm trying a new heat tolerant variety called Strike and then try Green Blaze. I've been doing Desparado and they do well in heat
I really like Kentucky Wonder climbing beans. I don't have to bend down to pick them.
Beautiful Beans!! I just came out of our garden of staking up my tomatoe plants. I have so many already along with numerous peppers and cherry tomatoes. Now that the rock is removed we will be planting more and definitley will have a 2nd garden this fall. That is the plan for now .... Well the rain forecasted for this afternoon just split around us we got the outburst wind gust of 24 mph. Hope fully the work I did on my tomatoes helped thru that. Please show us you canning the beans.
I sure will sister!!!
Thanks so much for a great video! I have a question regarding bush vs. pole beans. I'm in Austin and have never had much luck with growing green beans. I have had huge success with tomatoes, canteloupe (muskmelon), peppers, okra, cucumbers, etc., but for some reason, my beans have never really produced well. I wonder if it is because I always grow POLE beans instead of BUSH beans. Since tomatoes are my favorite thing to grow and because I always grow indeterminate/vining varieties, I wonder if this has over-influenced my decision to always try pole beans? This year I have planted bush beans and they are doing great so far. I'd love to hear others' thoughts on growing pole vs. bush beans here in Texas. Again, thanks for such an informative video!
Fairbanks, AK. It was 30 degrees on the morning of June 1. Lost most of the veggie plants. Put the flower baskets inside and they are OK.
Oh me!! I’m so sorry Gary
This year I put my green beans in 1 gallon buckets. So that I will be able to lift them up and put them on a small table and pick them and then switch out to the next bucket we’re trying that this year.
Thumbs Up
Make my green beans the same from Florida
How do you prepare your mustard plant for food? What kind of seed do you get that is one big plant👍👍I thought my husband was a garden Gnome but you guys are the BLUE Ribbon winners Out standing.
Hiw sweet Ruby! I got my seeds from Survival Garden seeds mustard greens. We like to sauté them with garlic, onions and bacon grease a little bit of chicken broth and top it off with bacon bits.
I guess I'm going to have to follow you. Because you're only one giving practical advice about how the garden even as you get older.
Awe thank you!
Looking to grow green beans. Don't know how many plants to grow for an abundance of beans
I didn't have room for green beans or I was just not organized. Can I plant them in the fall? You just answered that you will plant in fall. When do you plant them. I am in Arlington.
Where do I find Microrizol or am I not spelling it correctly?
If you do plant for your fall garden, make sure you have 60 days before your first frost
Hey Jill. Do you have a video on treating the seeds with microryzol?
It’s embedded in one of my seed starts. However, all you do is take about a teaspoon of mycorrhizal fungi and pour over your seeds. Shake them up. And if you’re transplanting, just dust a little bit on your transplants and make sure it has contact with the roots
@@ntxg Thank you for the good information!
Which bush bean did you plant?
Is it too late to plant grn beans in AR? Can I put them in the bed I harvested my garlic from, a couple days ago?
I’d go ahead and plant them but not sure you could put where the garlic was unless you modify the soil
@@ntxg Thank you
I’d sure try it ❤. You wouldn’t believe the stuff I mix together in my containers!! 😂
@@Sabbathissaturday Going for it! Thank you! ❤️
Did you not see the bird sitting on the nest with the blue eggs, in you green bean garden bed, as you were harvesting? It was amazing how long it would sit there before finally flying away when you accidentally touched it, if you didn't see it.
Omgosh!!! I didn’t see it!
All of mine have either rotted, spider mite infestation, or rust. I have never had so much trouble with such an easy crop. I replanted last week hoping for better outcome
Be sure to check for the roly poly bugs too. Spider mites. Have been an issue this year for sure. I’ve replanted some as well. I’m gonna see what I can get before the fall. I’m so sorry to hear of your struggles.
@@ntxg struggles define whether we stand up or kneel. I tell my hubby I MUST be smarter than bugs, right? Lol, it’s all good. I truly enjoy your channel and pray for some relief for your struggles as well. God bless you! Btw, most of my replants are coming up already so fingers crossed.
My mom always said not to pick when dew on the leaves. Is this true?
I dunno but I have to pick in the cool 🤣
Thanks.
Can someone help me with some bean math? I want to can 52 pints of green beans. How many plants would you suggest i need to get that kind of yield? Thanks so much!
Well.. a whole lot!! lol. My raised bed and in ground has given about 20 quarts. Succession plant will help depending on the size of your area
How do you plant in a hot house without your plant Dying.
should they be planted direct sunlight?
6-8 hours full sunlight
👍😅
Did you fertilize?
We do fertilize, but we do not use commercial fertilizers.
@@ntxg I was wondering what to use and when! 😂
I haven’t planted green beans before but will be doing that today so just curious if I needed to do anything before planting.
Hi Kathy! 🤣 I used mycorrhizal fungi on the seeds at planting time. Make sure your soil has some good organic compost and you should be just fine sister.
@@ntxg I really should have paid attention to what my mother was doing when she planted and tended her garden. 😂
Are those Blue Lake or Contender?
Blue lake and Calima
You think it's too late to plant seeds for Bush beans? We're in zone 9A.
Yeah I have rabbits that like to eat my green beans when they are about 4-5 inches tall 🤦♂️
I don't eat pork
Nice
Oh, you can still cook them up good I had a little chicken broth to flavor
