The lessons of Jonathan Kent live large in Kal El. Jonathan's sacrifice in the tornado produced someone who knows well to temper his use of power. His nod to Clark was to tell him not now, not yet. Clark needed time to develop faith in himself and faith in humanity. So that he could look past humanity's fear and see that they are worth protecting. And not just those who hold great personal value to him, but even "just" a dog. It was as if Jonathan told Clark, your powers are not for you to protect what's of value to JUST YOU. You have to decide what to use your abilities for, what you intend to accomplish with them, the kind of world you will make WITH THEM!

The only thing missing is him walking right through that glass like it's not there. Would really get the point across how dangerous he can be, but chooses not to be.
I was having a conversation with some of my friends who are nerds but also have some military experience. We were talking about different monster movies and what weaponry we have now that can actually stop whichever threat. We started talking about Superman and the general consensus was we couldn't stop him but I reminded them that the comics indicate he is susceptible to magic...so Penn and Teller could take him out with some killer card tricks.
Restraint only counts if you're actually restrained. YOU know what you're capable of so you assume that counts but he's trying to show them he's not going to hurt them. Displays of strength destroying their security, imagined safety and possibly putting them in danger (something breaks and falls on them) isn't going to help what he's trying to achieve. The only display of strength he used was the cuffs to simply show that he was being nice during the escort. The funniest thing is that Cavill went to Times Square, wearing a superman t-shirt and no glasses, to prove that the disguise isn't as dumb as people say. @OriginalPuro, no, you can't. You're not Superman, duh.
Henry is such a great sci-fi nerd actor. He really does the best he can with the scripts he's given. He stays true to the characters he plays.
I love that he was raiding in WoW and didn't take the call telling him he got the part for this movie.
"I was playing World of Warcraft, and I had my priorities straight"
Such a wasted actor. Legend And classy AF.
that's the whole reason he quit playing Geralt in the Witcher. The production team was going in a different direction than what Geralt would do canonically and he didn't agree with it. He gave an example of they wanted him to make a joke about Roach (his horse) getting killed like it was no big deal, and fans of the books know Geralt values every Roach hes ever had more than he does most humans.

Like flecking off a bit of dust.
Like not breaking them was more difficult than doing so, which is a nice little touch.
no shi. His key weighs 50 tons just that.
He may not have even done it on purpose. Maybe he just stood up casually and his hands naturally went to his sides. He would barely feel the resistance of the metal cuffs

Bro literally being as nice as could be but they’re acting like he’s some type of murderer lol
If superman were a real entity I can't envision that IRL government and military wouldn't be similarly shitting themselves/scared
As Zod showed later in the movie, they were right to be wary. Clark is a good man...because he WANTS to be.
I mean...he's literally someone who could shrug off pretty much all armaments any country could have. Maybe even nukes? Not sure how strong the movie superman is compared to the comic one. And there's no material they could make a jail out of that could hold him for even a second. Like he said, they can't control him. Even though he's strong enough to likely take on the world by himself, and win. The only "guarantee" they have that superman won't ever turn into an enemy is his word. And we all know how little that counts for anything.
They're still going about it the wrong way though. When there's someone you literally can't stop from taking over the world if he wanted to, what you do is make him not want to do so by staying on his good side. Not try to restrain him and lock him up, viewing him as an enemy...
@@Sanquinity Thank you! That last bit you said was exactly what I was alluding to. I don’t understand why they would do anything to possibly end up on his bad side.

This is by far one of the best scenes in Superman history. He basically said there’s levels to this and your entire planet ain’t on my level but it’s ok because I’m not here to hurt you!
That's not how Superman acts. He sees himself as an Earthling, no better than anyone else. This smug, condescending God version of Superman is incredibly unlikeable.
@@spenser9908He himself said the earth is like a cardboard in one of the comics, though idk whats that supposed to convey

Not on his level yet many versions of the Earth’s green lanterns, speedsters, Batman and even the more regular villains with kryptonite bullets have fatally wounded or outright killed him before, also plastic man can also just beat Superman without much effort
This is not Superman. Not at all. Zack Snyder did not understand Superman as a character
“You’re scared of me because you can’t control me” sums up people on earth perfectly.
state motto of Florida meth heads
It's because he's immensely dangerous: if he could just teleport himself everywhere they wouldn't be so scared of him.
Not really. If anything people on earth are the opposite. They yearn to be controlled, they demand to be controlled. There is a reason the vast majority of the world is controlled by an oligarchy or a dictator.
Homelander is a great example of why they’re right to be scared

Henry is a perfect actor for superman
I really like how he didn't even need to put in any effort into it, he just let his hands fall to his sides and that was enough. A subtle way to show just how powerful he is.
This is what every man should become.
He's trying to show he's benevolent, causing thousands of dollars in damage and potentially harming the humans in the building isn't going to do that.
Boring flashy or dangerous, just saying "look I'm not trying to hurt you and you can tell I could, can we talk like adults now?"
