Definitely a "burst of spending" type person over here too. I have pretty simple/casual style and skincare routine but I just snap every five months or so and suddenly need good smelling candles, a replacement pair of everyday jeans, that serum I ran out of six months ago that I just never replaced, etc. all at once.
Just recently went back and watched all of your videos since the beginning. I started watching around the start of the pandemic, but had never gone back to your original videos. I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate that you have continued to be yourself and have pushed back against the idea of "branding" your channel. I enjoy your videos so much more because you shine through them, which I think is really unique on UA-cam. You have helped me with the overspending mentality that is so common in today's society, and I think you single handedly saved me so much money during this stressful time. So thank you!
Yes I would LOVE to see the how to shop online for second hand items video! I really want to do this more now that I can’t shop second hand in person (or rather don’t want to), but I’m intimidated by the process. This would be an extremely helpful video!
Alexa Sunshine 83 here on UA-cam is a secondhand shopping channel if you want to check her out! I dont know if she has like a primer on how to go about doing it online but you could go through her videos and see if anything inspires you. I'm a major thrifter and secondhand is almost always the first way I try to buy. Good luck! I would love to see a video like this from you too Hannah!
Only just started watching but i am actually proud of you for buying the top at the end of 2020. You’re doing these projects for your (financial and mental) benefit, not to restrict yourself from getting things you want. This was the only mature decision. And so is making use of sales WHEN AND ONLY WHEN you were going to buy the thing anyway. On an edit: my own savings slash budgeting project is going well too. I got a nice refresh of some things in my closet, nice additions but also replacements. Same for beauty, got some replacements and some wants. I think i will make it through the year easily (there’s of course more i would buy with infinite funds but i’ll make do with what i can and want to spend)
The Merino wool COS sweater and Ulla Johnson jeans are lovely staples, but I appreciate how you focused more on the importance of on supporting small businesses and finding secondhand pieces. Thinking about and researching all aspects of my consumption can be time-consuming & complicated but buying from an individual and/or used simplifies this process for me!
I am a seller on Poshmark Canada and I can confirm, each sale really does make my day and helps me reach my goals. Also it is great for the environment to buy second hand!
Love this video, and I would love to see a video about your secondhand-buying strategies. Also, during your next seasonal buy, maybe you could talk-through one of your poshmark shopping sessions?
I bet that the tan sweater is “slippery and soapy” because it is super wash merino. This is where the merino is coated in a thin layer of plastic to make it machine washable. Non-super wash yarns tend to be warmer, have a more rustic handle, and age differently! Just some notes from the hand-knitting world ❤️ EDIT: All superwash wools have their scales removed, but not all are coated in plastic!
I didn't know that's a thing :0 So thanks for the info! That's so horrible tho because for me the most important reason of using natural materials in clothing is to avoid plastic 🙄😅
@@heta4737 With experience you can usually tell superwash from non-superwash yarns by the feeling alone 😊 Maybe see if you have a local yarn store and check out the feeling in person? Also, if it is machine washable and wool, it will be superwash treated.
good to know, but also annoying! The version of this top that I have from years past is machine-washable and feels much better to my hand. I wonder if the past version is also super wash, but just a nicer-feeling version? In any case this is very interesting :)
In Minnesota your winter budget is from November to April...we call things "fall and spring" but we know it's all just marketing. There is snow. It's cold. We're not fooling anyone. I have a pair of joggers from H&M that I have loved to death and I keep hoping they will pop on Poshmark. I think with the goal of "fewer, nicer things" it doesn't have to necessarily be fewer, more expensive things, but rather things that fit really perfectly into your life. Sometimes those pieces aren't expensive.
I would LOVE a video about how to shop for second-hand items! Yes! And this was another great video. I really love your videos because I love your message and thought process the way you share it with us. Thank you!
i love your leopard tiara, Princess Hannah! i just did patreon, but this is the content I'm here for! you're my favourite creator, with no comparison x
This year is the first year that I have a proper income and I’m not a student or working minimum wage. I’ve been finding that Instagram ads or links from influencers are getting me sucked in so easily because I know that I actually have money in my bank account. This idea of seasonal budgeting makes a lot of sense to me, and I’m thinking that it would be a good practice for me to implement as well. That way I can buy the random interesting things online, but I can control it with specific times throughout the year. Thanks for the inspo as always, Hannah!
As a long time subscriber, the ease and joy you had during this shopping experience makes me so very happy! I have been inspired by your journey with money and shopping, and seeing your struggle in the beginning, to your smile now, is so satisfying. It gives me hope that we can all grow and change. Loved your purchases, and I would love to see your “secondhand” tips and tricks. I actually started shopping at Poshmark after seeing you shop there, and I would appreciate any advice you can give me. ❤️💪🌈
I completely understand the organizer purchase. People underestimate how much a good organizer can really change how you approach something. I just this week purchased a mirror that's also a jewelry cabinet and I have been wanting one for a very long time. But I took my time and selected one that's really beautiful, the organizers inside are arranged best for my jewelry preferences (a lot of jewelry cabinet mirrors favor rings and earrings over necklaces, which is what I wear the most of), and because of it all my beautiful bits of jewelry that I love very much have a home that's not just a one compartment box on my bedside table. I have actually denied myself buying a really beautiful piece of jewelry that I fell in love with because I knew I didn't have a good home for it and it could potentially get damaged using my current method. Just buying this mirror that's really beautiful has completely changed how I'm going to approach jewelry buying now. Basically good organizers can be life changing in small ways.
I love this! Drop the link for the mirror? Your requirements are slightly different to mine, but I'm realising for the first time that I could combine my mirror AND jewellery storage needs into one unit and a starting point for that search would be ever so welcome.
@@anotherlemontree smile.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08HMMKBBC?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_image This is the mirror I got but I actually got mine in a different colorway that looks more like natural wood, but I think they're sold out of that color. It's the same mirror tho.
I have also been trying my best to only buy secondhand or from small brands. As you said supports the economy and helps the environment by not adding as much to fast fashion. Glad you're so thrilled with what you bought :)
I have to say, hearing you talking about billiedoux made me remember how much I sincerely miss seeing your new clothes come out every week. I just loved seeing them so much, and the day you would update was one of my favorite days of the week! My cloudy skirt and snake dress aren't getting much use these days but I still love seeing them in my closet, lying in wait. :) Thanks for all the beautiful things
My jaw dropped when you popped on screen! I absolutely love this outfit! And yes, please share your online retail words of wisdom. I am clueless in this area which is a super bummer during a pandemic!
That headband!!!! 🤤 Wonderful video! I am doing a 12 new things in 21 inspired on your 2020 year of fewer nicer things... I feel I am always implementing your decisions after watching you experiment with them for a year and then, I slightly readjust to my own circumstances. Soooo thank you Hannah!
I clicked so fast! I really think this is the budget style I need to adapt to. It seems stress relieving to not think about shopping until a new season and makes it more of a rarity and a exciting event.
I just bought a Patagonia bathing suit for $21... 😲 I actually buy during the opposite season bc I’m able to find some good deals that’s way. (Example above) I don’t really have a problem with over spending but I do like to track my purchase to keep tabs on myself. Love hearing how others make their buying decisions and love the way you explain things 🤗
Came back and re-watched. Love the enthusiasm about the seasonal budget and the purchases. I would love to learn more about your process of purchasing second hand.
@@HannahLouisePoston You and the others involved were wonderful! I got my days mixed up for the book launch and then the power came back on in our area so it was my pleasure to be there. Hannah I love your ‘less, but better’ / mindful spending philosophy! As a girl that is known for having a love of beautiful things that has become a little out of control over the last 12 months, you’ve really given me a lot to think about since I recently discovered your channel. I’m planning a major cull in my wardrobe and makeup stash in the coming weeks and can’t wait to develop a similar seasonal spending budget that will hopefully help me reprogram my outlook to shopping so that I can start purchasing things that I love in a more mindful and conservative way. I love your channel and sincerely appreciate the content you share ❤️
Those pants. They took my breath away, I love them so much! Your sense of style is such a delight for the eyes, as someone who has a fashion designer training and as a human being in general truly, I enjoy so much your choices and how you style everything! Added with the way you value your purchases, it’s the perfect balance, I enjoy it so much.
very interesting shift in budgeting! shopping sprees are very satisfying and if you can successfully follow them by no buys then all the better. wishing you the best of luck in this 2021 way of shopping!
I am a thrifting junkie so I would love to hear how you shop. I've been visiting thrift stores since I was a child (my parents started me on it). What I am finding is that I've become accustomed to thrift store prices ($4 for a top, $7 for a sweater) so eBay or Poshmark prices sometimes feel shockingly high.
Hannah, your comments about supporting an artist versus corporations totally resonated with me. I love the idea of helping someone live their dream and I love the things that you find! I was wondering if you'd consider doing a "support the artist" sort of series where you could feature Etsy or other indie sellers you run across and what you love about them. Maybe quarterly around the time you do your budget/spending updates? I loved Billiedeux's shop and I know she has really loved the support and love she has received from your community. Anyway, would love it if you shared more artists that we could support with your Hannah Army of supporters 🙂
Talking about loving that voice is exactly what I needed to hear on my seasonal budget. I got a blender with my budget and immediately thought I should buy extra cups for it so I could use it more often, but that voice spoke up and said, "Are you implying that you would pay money and space not to wash a cup?" And this video just made me high five her for it.
I’m so happy that the seasonal budget is going well. I’m on a very strict no buy till the summer and so far I’m feeling good about it! I’m already eyeing up a things to buy once summer is here. The idea of a seasonal budget appeals to me as well, I’ll see how I go on for the next few months and see how well I do.
Your video was perfectly in line with what I've been processing! I have a list and saying 'it's ok, you're fine without these things' and I'm waiting for a sale, or gently used or as gift ideas :) it's hard not to impulsively purchase "I need" ...no... I can wait. And it helps me not spend! :) Thankyou for your videos!
I am 100% with you and on the seasonal budget with 90ish day no buys in between. I am really loving it so far. I also ran out of my Mac color corrector and thought the same thing “It can wait until April”. Thank you for being such an inspiration!
Thank you for the reminder to shop second hand or to look on Etsy or independent brands to make purchases! It’s easy to get sucked into fast fashion emails, etc or shopping at some of the “all in one” stores like Target, Fred Meyer, etc. If you could also recommend what to do with old clothing - resale shops, or clothing recycling - that would also be amazing. I think I’d decluttering more often if I knew what to do with items rather than drop them at my local thrift store. Also ideas for us as to where to take items if we are donating to thrift stores. My local area has a shop that uses their pieces for the women’s shelter. The women and children get vouchers to get clothing and also furniture when they’re ready to move to independent living. I try to donate there but they have been limiting donation items lately (the Marie Kondo craze, then pandemic purging has left them slightly overwhelmed).
I love love the jeans. I bought a pair from Free People very similar style, and I love love them too, and it was at a reasonable price point. You did a fabulous job, I truly like all your finds❣
As a new subscriber I’m working my way through your fashion videos, they are super helpful and I’m really enjoying your content, I absolutely love those high waisted jeans by the way, I have shopped in Zara for years but have never thought of looking for things ive liked or once owned on second hand outlets. I’m so going to do this now , thank you for all your hard work putting these videos together 🙏🙏🙏
I’m loving your look in this video, and I have to tell you yes to that COS shirt! I saw it on sale and immediately thought of you because I knew how much you had wanted it from your videos. Glad you took the plunge before it sold out!
I love hannah's mindset towards spending. So glad I found this channel at a point in my life where I'm learning how to handle amounts of money that are larger than my childhood pocket money. I feel soooo good about how I approach casual spending 😊
Currently waiting for a couple of posh ark orders to get to me ❤️ I would love to see more videos about shopping second hand! It's so gratifying to find something that's exactly what you're looking for but I do find it makes me want to shop more! I'm also knitting myself a new sweater for more intense slow fashion vibes 🧶
Very nice choices I've been gravitating more towards etsy and small local shops as well this year. I feel like you get much better quality and alot more room for customisation. And you also get to support a small business, which is amasing!
I feel like doing a chunk of time like this would work for so many things. Gives you time to think about it and figure out what you really NEED, and ration supplies better. Groceries? Set shopping dates, make due til then (assuming that's possible for one's situation). Home improvements/furniture? Set a budget for every few months or once a month, aside from emergencies. Clothing? Seasonal/biannually, stretches that last bit of use out of stuff you want to replace.
I'm just casually watching and the thought occurred to me that between your love for unique fashion and your ethos of sustainability, I think you would really like visible mending! or even find lots of use in just some basic mending skills. just a random thought ☺️
I am currently trying a budget for mysel and buying some things online secondhand. However, I've has some fails and am a little hesitant now to buy stuff. Would really love the secondhand video for that reason!
For the last few things that weren't necessarily on a wishlist or items you were thinking about before the spending season - I'm curious about if having more of a browsing mentality had any of that "looking for something to want" or "wanting to want" feeling you've talked about pre-nobuy shopping?
Also very happy that this system has so far been a positive experience. Is it weird that I just really love hearing about how different people manage their spending habits? I am so much the opposite of a spender. Anything I might want but don't immediately need ends up in a memo on my phone for many months (in some cases years) before buying. At this moment in my life I feel like I have enough so I end up buying something for myself once or twice a year and I'm happy with that.
Mid Jan I decided to make February a no buy for makeup month. I've been finding myself so tempted to break it... especially for Angie's palette. Come pay day I got on Amazon and browsed through my cart to cull what I wanted and realised makeup was not at the top of my list of what I wanted to buy and it solidified my resolve not to buy makeup. What was tempting me so the last week or so wasn't even up on the top 5 to 10 things I wanted come pay day, so u don't want it enough to actually have it make sense. I love the shiny blue look you've got going on . Reminds me of your makeup playtime video with the Alter Ego video. I kind of have that vibe going on. I tapped my glittery blue highlight from Kaleidos over the orange shade in my 75 degree palette by Roen and it is fabulous. It gives me a blue shine over the orange without making it go brown. I also tapped it over a plum shimmer single from MUG which was gorgeous too. I decided to pan my roen quads. I want to use one of the three at least 3 times a week. I want to pan these because they're beautiful, I paid a lot of money for them and being creams the expiration date is more likely to be when the makeup spoils and I want to get good use of them. I don't necessarily expect to completely use them up but I want pan in at least one shade 9f each palette and it will help me to determine if it is something I want to repurchase when the time comes. I have also been casually shopping my stash every week since the new year and I'm really having fun with it. I don't make it so u can't use something else if I want, it is just a way for me to think ahead and commit to my desire to use a few products during the week. This helps make it so that I don't keep thinking about how I really want to use a product and not doing it and then feeling like I have to much makeup to really use and I need to declutter EVERYTHING. I think I'm going to try out a seasonal budget this year but I want to do it so that in spring I'm saving for Summers budget or allotted amount for shopping. This way I am using money I set aside for that purpose rather than I'm shopping and spending my money as it comes in.
If you’re into headbands, there’s a company I’ve bought from in LA called I’m With the Band. The owner kailee is super nice and helpful. I think you would love the retro styles and music-inspired vibes :)

A guide to second hand shopping would be amazing!! I feel so overwhelmed by the process.
Yes! Please do a second hand shopping guide video.
Yes..yes..yes.. please please do the video on second hand shopping!!!!!
I’m so going to do this now , thank you for all your hard work putting these videos together 🙏🙏🙏
the eye look you're sporting in this video goes SO well with that billedoux top! i love galaxy vibes on you ✨✨
I’m loving your look in this video, and I have to tell you yes to that COS shirt! I saw it on sale and immediately thought of you because I knew how much you had wanted it from your videos. Glad you took the plunge before it sold out!
I just wanted to say that I'm proud of you for not even repurchasing the colour corrector! That honestly inspired me for some reason!
I love hannah's mindset towards spending. So glad I found this channel at a point in my life where I'm learning how to handle amounts of money that are larger than my childhood pocket money. I feel soooo good about how I approach casual spending 😊
I also own that sweater, bought it when it first came to h&m. I still own it and I love it so much
Currently waiting for a couple of posh ark orders to get to me ❤️ I would love to see more videos about shopping second hand!
Would love to watch a video on how to buy second hand online, I really really struggle with it!!!
Oooh I love the headband!! It looks great on you!
Yay supporting small brands feels sooooo good!
This video reminded me how much I love Poshmark.
Thank you so.muvh for promoting secondhand shopping! It's such a great thing to do for so many reasons.
You always make me want to get bangs!
Was really looking forward to this video, thanks for sharing with us!
I absolutely freaking love this... I totally wanna do this myself because I think it’s how I could really get my overspending under wraps...
Yes! Please do a video on how to buy second hand.
OMGGG those jeans are everything on you!!
Your “no buy spirit” is so strong and admirable. I wish I had half of it!
Love love the jeans! It’s chic version of what I wore in high school. They look so good on you, so unique 👖💜
I love the pants!!! I have high waisted flowy jeans from Elloqui that I love
You always inspire me.
Loving this outfit aesthetic!!!
Prairie blouses are back? I had a few in the early 80s. 😂We have very different styles and body shapes, but I love to hear you talk fashion.
I had them too. They wouldn’t fit me now. 😂
That headband looks so lovely on you.
Oh those jeans are divine 😍
Would love a series on Poshmark!
Yes to doing a video about online second hand shopping!
I love what you are wearing.
If you’re into headbands, there’s a company I’ve bought from in LA called I’m With the Band. The owner kailee is super nice and helpful. I think you would love the retro styles and music-inspired vibes :)
I would love more content on second hand shopping :D
It’s like a treat yo self day, 4x a year. What a great idea.
This eye look is beautiful.
Yes to second hand video!!!!
I have that sweater and I love it! It’s in tatters but I can’t part with it. It’s a compliment magnet.
I loved this so much! I could see the joy in every purchase. Thank you for sharing. 💜💙💚
