I love Rain Parade. I like Mazzy Star. I don't think of myself as a Dave Roback fan, but I guess I am. That said, his work with Kendra Smith was his peak. I have no idea what caused Opal to split, but Dave should have cleft to her like a barnacle to a ship. They were magic.
Gogiggs64 , Kendra had a complete change of heart, or mind, or both, during a US tour as Opal. I don’t know if she had a nervous breakdown, but she quit performing and making music abruptly during that tour. Robarles immediately phoned Hope Sandoval and had fly to where he was, teach her all the Opal songs and POOF! That is how the end of Opal happened and the beginning of Mazzy Star :)

Clay Allison was the first "version" of Opal. David, Kendra and Keith were already there. With either Juan Gomez or Sylvia Juncosa. Within a year the band name would change to Opal. "Fell From The Sun" was the first Clay Allison '45, and it was later released under the Opal name on Early Recordings.
