You just have to love how heritage lines operate according to Rule #1 😂😂
There seems to be a huge influx of large four track layouts popping up since Making Tracks first appeared, and for good reason. I too have totally shifted my plans away from a huge single track loop focusing on mountain scenery to exactly what we have here, Everard and Deltan, just to name a few. I went with the split level with a single branch below at first, but have since sacrificed that to model a canal going all the way around the layout, following the railway. Plus it gives me a chance to model our favorite walkies tow path. The points connecting lines 1-3 and 2-4 outside the station on one side, and the ladder connecting all four lines on the other will definitely provide some great snakes. So much more trainage on offer, but waaaaay more track to lay!
Cheers. Mike.
Two best things in life.
Model railways and your dog.
Love Lulu.
Wow Richard that is some set up you have, best part of the video was seeing Lulu again, she’s adorable
Your layout is looking good and it will look amazing when the fidelyard done.
I look forward to seeing it when it completed.
Colin
Personally with the heritage railway, I’d have a platform only on the outside, ideally you’d probs have a bank between the stations. I would base it off a GWR station for simplicity and personal preference. Looks like lulu was a good help as well in the video, holding the camera steady 😂. I love dog owners who actually show their affection in public or on camera, Keep up the good work and give lulu a treat for her hard work.
I'd suggest rounding off the "main line" the give the steam choo choos more room. that way you can have the two Stations and it will not feel cramped
Always lovely to see Lulu in the videos ❤️ and looks like we will be seeing you in Donny tomorrow 😊
I'm there on Sunday 😬
@ Noooo! In Darth Vader voice! Lol 😆
Tbh we might go Sunday not decided yet
You deffo need a heritage station. That's part of the old world feel.
Great update video, I'm at Doncaster on Sunday, so I might see you there ... Cheers James 🙂👍
You could always have that road swing around to a level crossing across the lines? It might offer you some visual interest for that area without the bulk of another station? Great video as always!
Hi Richard
Really enjoy your railway build. On your question about the station I would suggest moving a a foot further down and link up the upper and lower levels together by station. Regards Kevin
Great idea.
Similar to Worcester Parkway?
Marx guy here, me layout be 6'X12' , as much as a Bloke like me can handle. Your layout be an impressive undertaking.
For a hobby that's supposedly struggling there are an awful lot of new models in the pipeline, especially from Rapido and Accurascale. Which am I looking forward to most? Well my layout is mostly steam, but I've been adding a few early diesels too, so:
- From Accurascale the next lot of class 31s. The GWR Pannier tanks too.
- From Rapido the O1s. I've got the SECR and Bluebell liveries on pre-order which will go brilliantly with my recently acquired P class tank engines which are also in those liveries.
- From Hornby the GER J15 though it'll be a while before we see those.
Not sure if my wallet is looking forward to them quite as much as I am!🤔🙂
I'm only 22 and don't remember them in service (obviously) but I LOVE retro liveries like the "toothpaste" or swallow liveries. They're so cool and I wish they could be brought back even for one off trains like lner did with the class 91s
Great update overall here Richard, the sample of the 50 looked really nice especially on the NSE livery and the embellishments that it has on it really make it look nice, I don’t have an accurascale one on order at the moment but may in the future but not sure overall, the 50s for me have really only become a favourite loco of mine since I got a hornby one a couple of years ago, while the hornby one is quite old now I recently fitted mine with a hornby HM7000, before I didn’t really se why they were such popular locomotives with enthusiasts but as I say my outlook of them has changed over the last couple of years.
Lots of new models I am excited for but inexorably me right now is the Cavalex Class 60, now I am aware that Accurascale are doing their own but for me the cavalex one will be my choice, the 56s I got from them last year were the best locos I got, they were my and many others model of the year.
Great update overall really look forward to seeing a train make a full loop around the layout in this configuration and really can’t wait to see all 4 tracks on the mainline and having a train running on each line, if I ever have the chance to make a layout that’s something I want to do.
I will be at the Doncaster show this weekend but I’m going on the Saturday.
Great update Richard!!! Well done mate! Cheers Onno.
@@onnomulder9775 my pleasure
Thank you for another informative and thoughtful video the way you think outside the box is very inspiring what a great layout in the making
@@colemanmannion9249 many thanks
I would likely scrap the idea of an actual heritage railway station, keep the double track and the yard, but make it more like Grosmond, a separate depot with a lot of locomotive and stock moves and the regular heritage services running past.
This is coming together really nicely Richard 👍
Your dog Lulu looks very nice, great video. I really do in joy watching your videos that class 50 looks very nice 😊
@charliethetrainspotter4963 thanks, she's a sweetie!
I would slightly move the Heritage tracks forwards away from the so-called hill as it would only make things easier for you in the end, relaying the Heritage tracks wouldn't be as much of a pain as it would be to try and work so close to the hill or other station at top, unless you can slide the whole area down the line would be the only other plan, but having the station at a straight flat area is the key to making room.
For the heratige railway I personally recommend you do like a rolling stock and loco parts yard maybe even an engine shed just so people get more of a feeling of realism as the train gets hidden on both sides which I don’t see enough I feel
good see you got vlog out nice work on layout keep up the great vlogs on the train layout
thanks for share lots track to lay thanks for great vlogs thanks lee
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome. I am limited to tank engines with a few wagons and DMUs - that beauty of a train is probably at least two or three times longer than my entire layout! The great thing about all this is you can enjoy what you have and there's always room to expand! I have buitl a few 3'x2' in OO for friends. Any layout is better than no layout.
Are you using Peco Bullhead? I just got a bit as a sampler and it is a totally different ballgame.
Lovely dog BTW - my old girl is my avatar pic, but she's no longer with us.
I’m excited for the Accurascale J69! I just need to know when it’s coming!
Glad to hear you are helping Tony's Trains of Rugby and making sure he is still living the dream! Re the heritage station you could move it so it starts just before the line disappears off scene on the curve. You would only need to model a small proportion of the station and have the illusion of the heritage line station being much bigger. A couple of exhibition layouts have done this to good effect
@@peterfinch5077 good shout that
I love your vids every time I see a new one I want to watch the whole thing
That's great to hear! ❤
Awesome video, Richard.
@@Torent6666 thanks
i think there are a few stations with a upper and lower levels or more than 1 station built right near another station cos of different rail companies with all the routes and you could make the heritage line station building from the early days of stream and have the 2 stations link up with a walkway
A good way to work out train lengths is to use a piece of rope the right length.
This has to be pretty exciting but I can see how it is for the first time having it together like that. I don’t really have good suggestions, but I’m really eager to see what other people suggest, so please share some of what they suggest.
Live the sample of the 50. I have 50007 and 50149 on order with Accurascale.
you could bring the road roughly across the heritage railway where it is and then put just a single track station in between the points infront of Thirsk station
Very much looking forward to my Accurascale class 89- hopefully not too much longer to wait!
Not long now 😊
All I can say, Richard, is, that your wallet must be made of elastic to afford that Sleeper Train. Good luck with the next part of your build. Martin. (Thailand)
Awesome train. That train is almost as long as the sailboat my mate is crossing the Atlantic in to raise money for charities!
@@cadian127th wowza
@NewJunction would be funny to line up your train next to his boat.
With regards to the heritage line, what about a station that starts before the line goes under the board and then the station is partly under there.
The heritage line could still make sense near to the main station , as it could have been a smaller connecting station to local services for passengers off the mainline, think of it like Wigan wall gate and Wigan north western which is also on a gradient difference! So don’t worry about it looking cluttered , because it’s actually quite realistic for them to be fairly close to each other
Ooo I'll do some research
Wasn't sure about getting Accurascale J94 until the LMR announcement today, so I had to order the train pain with sound instantly. I have 7 different LMR J94s already
Great video Richard, the 2 new releases I'm excited for is the A class (double ended streamliner (rebuilt B class)) and the N class (Dogbone)
@@JordysRailVideos oooo nice
I remember seeing 50017 on the PVR before they sold it. It had a maroon livery then if I remember correctly. Can't get over how big the layout is and definitely can't wait to see it finished
I can't wait to see it running let alone finnished aha
Great video Richard as always. Looking forward to seeing what you do with your station/stations area. I think you should do one for the heritage side. Grosmont on the NYMR has a main line bit off to one side. All the best Anth Knill 👍
@@anthknill yes, that's a fun shape too
Maybe a combined station serving both the main and heritage lines. It can be a mix of an older station on heritage line connecting to a newer station on the main.
Hi. Richard. I use 64ltr Really Useful Boxes. Bachmann & Hornby will fit the length of the loco box in the width of the plastic box. 5x Accurascale loco boxes per 64 ltr plastic box.
Dam, that class 50 looks mighty fine, I've been good, happy to wait for a class 50 to be proud of, and I can tell you I'm getting excited. Regards. Steve
I’m the same, combo of 64 and 84 litre boxes.
Please tell Lulu that Hippo and Toto say "Hi!"
Great video Richard . Will you be at the Glasgow show ?
Richard
I would run a strip of timer on edge of the "Heritage line to stop anything derailing & dropping of. Just a 1/2 " high lip enough to stop falling. Rest looking good wish I had length like this
@@neilbarron858 I've ordered some 😊
Remember you with Lulu doing the garden railway. Are we going to see that again.
How about a “request stop” or “Halt” lots of Heritage lines have them, you know the sort of thing that has only enough platform for 2 or even just 1 carriage. No buildings required, maybe just a small shelter
Thirsk access. Divert the road way upto upper station. Gives purpose for the road, saves rebuild. If you think anther staion will over load the scene, why not make the heritage line just pass by. It would be an added attraction to the main scene. Another option, use the reverse curves for a staggered station with an occupation crossing between platform ends to serve the inner platform. Spread out the scene.
The class 50 looks wonderful but are there any NWSE carriages to go with it?
I’m just about to build two station platforms and have the same challenge of adjusting the height to take account of the track bed.
@@GenreFilmsUK good luck
Now doesn't that look good with a full rake sleeper train on, looking forward to seeing the rest of the scenic section develop. Regarding your heritage line, I'd possibly look at the likes of Bonness and Kinniel railways Manuel station, and make the platform a small "halt" on the preserved lines, then use footbridges etc to get between the mainline station and heritage line.
James
@@James-Akers Good idea, I'll do.some research
An idea for the heritage line. How about doing a great central style station island and road bridge over the lines appearing to dissappear further off the edge of the boards? If that makes sense
That's an idea, the road bridge could lead to.a level crossing..
Hi Richard, can I suggest for the heritage line a station halt simular to Rushcliffe Halt station on the Nottingham section of the GCR? Nice a compact , functional and not too intrusive. Regards, Steve
Great suggestion!
Herratage line station and a tunnel for the road or move the track closer and put a station closer with a road next to it as an entrance to the herratage line and a car park.
Good idea
Great video Richard, ans idea for the Heritage line, how about open the lines up and do it like Quorn or Rothley. Also it works out as a access to the station on the mainline
Great idea, id love to do that!
Heritage line could be a single platform. Could be staggered each side of the road bridge.
What about a loading bay to offload trains on loan could find a nice die cast lorry and a flatbed trailer that used to move them
Would love to see Accurascale do a EMU/DMU.
Wouldn't we all 😂
When are the 60s coming richard as waiting on the jag train 60
Stick a station next to signal box and re route road accordingly
@@BEAR_UK job done

TUNNEL would be very quick with an eye view upto the station.

I'm looking forward to the EFE 74s. I'm a total sucker for anything southern region, despite living one cardinal direction counterclockwise from it
Great stuff, it's nice to have something to look forward to 😊
How about just having a water tower/refueling area on the heritage line to give something of interest without overcrowding near the mainline station.
My Accurascale class 31 in march👍👍👍👍
Not long now!
Are there any real UK stations in operation that have an adjacent heritage station? But it wouldn't matter if there are no IRL examples: it would be an interesting design exercise to imagine such a hybrid station.
PS: I would extend the main supports under your heritage line fiddle yard track all the way the back of the board, otherwise it's going to sag over time. The minor savings in wood aren't worth the risk.
Top tip!
One platform on the heritage line on the outer line
Yeah that's an idea, would get in the way of the camera mind aha

Scatter brain possibly 😅
@@NewJunction Fair!
I think this is suffering from too many in-progress changes. It’s becoming a hotchpotch of compromises.
The mainline station is far too short even for a 6 coach train, never mind a 16 coach sleeper. Your whole raison d’etre for the mainline was fast sweeping curves running express trains.
Lose the mainline station and make the heritage line the place for your station. Shorter trains will suit this much better.
The bolt-on heritage line “fiddle strip” is frankly bizarre. You really haven’t thought this through. This is a shame as you undoubtedly have modelling talent.
@jasonlee3247 keep faith, the mainline station is a 5 car replicar or a 6 car station, check out Thirsk 😊
