francargeric1 AC3 has the same combat as 4 tho...

Gurard: All that for a drop of blood.
Exactly...even if u charge with an arrow through his (guard) skull,he wont die, cause his level is higer than me...what a joke!!!
Ubisoft Quebec has made two games in the series, with Syndicate and Odyssey, and BOTH seem to have HUGE problems w the insanely easy combat being "balanced" by making the enemies absolute damage sponges. like seriously, you're telling me I've shot this man in the face four times w a revolver and hes still fighting me???? I've stabbed this man through the neck SIX TIMES with a spear crafted by the ONES WHO CAME BEFORE and he didnt even FLINCH??
@@adamogilvie9382 Really agree u with u bro...Actually ubisoft quebec is not suitable for assasins creed, but the Montreal is.....origins combat system really disappointed me..i mean unusual animations and damage sponge...but valhalla seems to be more promising to me..at least they should maintain the natural way for combat..im not talking about ultra easy combat, rather a well balanced combat...AC Unitys combat is a perfect example.
@@adamogilvie9382 the combat is evolving, just backwards
@@mdsalam-ec8vj I hope Valhala is going to be what we want, but I really doubt it after they said that Eivor has the hidden blade visible to ”extend the vikings honor”. This literally means that stealth kills aren t honorable so we won t have that?
Nothing tops the feeling of AC3’s combat. Fluid and flashy while still so technical. Never was a boring fight. The most overhated in the franchise to me. It truly was loads of fun!
I loved grabbing bayonet’s cuz the animations were sick. And it would usually one shot kill enemies when you attacked and countered
The worst thing about AC3 was bugs and glitches. I once picked up a musket and teleported to a random building with no interior, I was stuck in there
I did not play this game cuz of everybody opinion that it so bad
What an amazing game I missed . My favourite so far
Only thing bad with ac3 was no throwing the tomahawk
@Thaiy Looze never thought about that. That would have been sick asf
AC Unity was the high point in the entire franchise for combat, parkour and graphics. The combat was fluid but encouraged you to play more like an assassins using stealth and trickery due to the difficulty of fighting groups of 4 or more. The graphics were incredible. The parkour is the most fluid and intelligent of any of the games.
Agreed but i feel like the story was not as good as the predecessors still good though
@@Idontcareaboutthisrn right, they improved the series in every way, but ti wasn't a better game. It felt like an evolution, but the story and setting were just okay.
the combat isn't that good due to it got nerfed for co-op gameplay so it already got drag out so long but the stealth combat in Unity is quite fun since you can actually do cover kill now.
@@shikniwho7215 I mean, co-op is its main selling point so it makes sense for combat to be way harder to balance out having more allies or encourages stealthy playstyle which i must say, it's kinda fun
@@wrathybear yes but sometime when you play AC's game, you just want to walk around the city and beat the heck out of the enemy for fun, poking enemy with hidden blade isn't the only fun thing after all.

Honestly was my favorite combat for an ac game along with my favorite movement system, unity is too underrated
@@burgerking2293 once they fixed the bugs it became a brilliant game, probably my favorite after ac2
Fighting unarmed was one of my favorite things in the older games. Loved the feeling of deflecting my opponent until disarming and murdering them with their own weapon
Same, you felt like a boss after every fight💪😂
You can't do that in unity alongside a lpt of other things for some reason which annoyed me wjen playing it
Taylor Winowiecki wish they would bring it back from valhalla grabbing their own weapons and kill them.
Or taking everyone down with the hidden blades. The animations were epic.
You can still fight unnarmed
AC III and Unity has the best combat system for me. I love their combat styles, also the graphics and animation are insane, even for the next gen.
Ac3 is way too easy
@@enoo9003 every assassins creed combat is easy. Its never been the series' biggest achievement but what it lacks in substance it makes up for with a lot of style and thats okay. In that regard, AC3 had the flashiest and most satisfying to see
@@lenny4039 "what it lacks in substance it makes up for with a lot of style" that still has no substance. Valhalla's combat has a lot of substance, learning timing, dodging and managing the stamina system in there requires thought and delibartion. Not just spamming left click and pressing E like in AC3. AC3 combat sure looks 'flashy' but it's a braindead system

Unity was slept on, such an amazing game, fluent parkour, challenging NPC fights, stealthy gameplay, great graphics and all bugs are fixed (PC)
It was great but the story was kinda lacking especially the second half
The framerate is still bad on ps4
The reason I dislike Unity is because it feels confusing with all the missions and side missions on the map. I never knew where to go for the main story, and there were quite a few bugs, but cool concept with multiplayer. That could really be awesome if it’s done the right way. It all pretty much went downhill from that game.
The combat just looked so badass I liked the more “realistic” style physics to it.
But bad suit design
The animations just kept getting more and more realistic and then, after unity, just kept get more and more cartoony.
That’s why Suckerpunch swerved in to please AC fans with Ghost Of Tsushima.
It’s basically AC Japan.
Unknown for real. Wish Sony bought Ubisoft and made AC into the masterpiece it deserves to be.
Ac is getting shit by the day.Btw it was favourite before unity .

My favorite combat is ac3 its fluid, brutal and those double counters were so satisfying to watch. There's a move where Connor picks up the guy and uses his balls to push his head into the ground its so brutal and funny at the same time.
Only problem was the combat was WAY too easy

@@syjay where did you get the conclusion that I was a ac1 fanboy. I was praising ac3 combat.
Personally, I love how heavy the combat feels in ac1- revelations and how you could choose to block or Parry and knee opponents, as well as other things. The animation in AC3 is absolutely fluid. I feel like Unity has a great balance with these values. Haven't played since Unity though, doesn't seem like your an assassin so much anymore
Why don't you look like a killer, what do you look like?
Yeah, the combat has weight and once an attack lands it usually means the enemy is about to die, which just makes sense. I also like it in the sense that, to me, it harmonizes better with the whole "assassin" side of the games
Unity Is good.
you can block and parry in AC1-Unity
Unity is the last good AC game. The combat in every one after is horrific

Me too!
Playing a new ac game vs playing an old one, the combat feels so much better and smoother in the older games. You feel like an assassin who can end a battle in a few hits instead of the new games where you’re dueling enemies for dozens of minutes

Unity, the swordsmanship is a treat for the eye
In what way? Your character is awful with the sword.
Very fluid, extremely good looking, and nearest to Altair and Ezio combat. Loved it.
@@7dayspking doing shit like edward does withba 15 minutes combo is called showboating not skill, swordsmanship consists of nothing but deadly fluidity and quick kills, thats what unity is
@@royd209 I never mentioned Edwards. 'swordsmanship is fluidity and quick kills', if you're doing a choreographed sequence for a film or martial arts 'routine', yeah sure. Not the reality of actually fighting though.
I will make a second longer comment touching more on why Arno is a rubbish fighter. The short of it is though that weapons look too heavy in his hands, he's slow and clumsy and that his 'fighting' looks like crappy film choreography.
@@royd209 The longer answer. His actual strikes with the weapon are awful and low percentage. He gains momentum for his strikes by leaning right back, drawing his sword behind him and then leaping and stumbling forward like he's tossing a boulder. He's really slow with the sword and he does not swing precisely, quickly or even hard. The game treats Sabres as if they're barbels, the weapon physically looks too heavy for Arno and he looks silly trying to swing it.
The rest of the reasons he's bad are the result of the choreographed like combat system. Everyone just stands right in front of each other, Arno will awkwardly leap towards his opponent with broad swipes while toe to toe.
Nobody uses the range of their weapon, nobody uses any movement, nobody has any defence. Arno's defence relies entirely on blocking, he has no defence. He's awful at blocking as well and is always knocked off balance because the sabres are barbels.
You can roll to 'dodge', which is even more ridiculous. Arno is slow on his feet, players have no control over range, Arno just lunges in with committed swings without opening his opponent up from right in front of them. He doesn't use any combinations, he always strikes for the centre of his opponent's body.
He's about as rubbish a fighter as anyone could be. Most untrained people would easily beat him.
So no it's not realistic, no Arno is not good. The combat in the game is slow, clumsy, awkward, choreographed, not very violent and completely unskilled. Even drunks fight better, at least they move their head, feel the danger of their opponent's weapons, try to create openings, move, duck, dodge and attack quickly, violently in flurries of blows.
Gotta go with the first AC. It’s my favourite game in the series with my favourite combat. It’s extremely simple but so satisfying.
AC III/ AC Liberation have my favourite combat systems. Simple but so so satisfying
ac: unity's parkour and fighting was so satisfying. can't really understand why they really ditched that...
At the time it took up so much data and was so advance that it’s caused many glitches and was sometimes unplayable
@@rubymurdock9472 with the new consoles they could finally pull it off.
Honestly I don’t get the hate for syndicate. It’s one of my favorites. It feels like Unity, but smoother and bigger.
Unity was way ahead of its time and lots of "fans" got pissed because their decade old machines couldn't handle it. My machine was totally fine until AC4 but struggled a lot in Unity but the graphical improvement was off the chart so it was totally understandable for me. My options were play on low settings with good fps or high settings with bad fps and of course I went to the high settings, I don't want to miss all those beautiful details. But some people, mostly the whinies, just trashed the game everywhere hence, giving it a bad reputation. Notice how Syndicate's visual looks a bit inferior compared to Unity. They had to downgrade a bit just to satisfy the fans. And after that, the franchise got bombarded with "repetitive" notion and they changed it with origins. Now they're saying the same thing with Valhalla and people now wants to revert back to the old style.
Personally for me, AC Unity was the pinnacle of the franchise. It has the best graphics, best AC mechanic, it has a creed, awesome multiplayer, best fight animations, best parkour. It hits the perfect spot for what is to be called the true
Assassin's Creed.

Been playing back through AC3 and man how that game handles it's combat system makes me feel like an untamed beast ready to pounce on any enemy. Learning more utility on the rope dart makes me want to replay the story again so I can utilize that tool alot more. It just has some very flashy moves and can be quite the asset when dealing with more counter savvy enemies.
The older games' combat feels so impactful, like every swing of your weapon is actually hitting something and interacting with the enemy or their weapon. In the new games (since Origins) it's just waving a glowing sword around and watching a health bar go down-no reaction, no interaction, just empty swinging.

Almost scared to say this, but Unity and Syndicate are kinda my favourite ac games. I know how Ezio's trilogy is good and all (and as an Italian i am very proud of him) but Unity's combat, parkour and customization and even only Syndicate's location (personally I am a sucker for London during those times) just got me and they have a special place in my heart. I'm starting to see that people are slowly appreciating Unity with time and I'm so glad for it. Maybe I'll just have to wait another bit for people to give Syndicate another chance.
Mine is for sure black flag and unity, the combat in black flag is just soo smooth and fluid, also the physics. And with unity the parkour was amazing, and the combat too but black flag is just better, but imagine an ac game with unity graphics and physics from black flag and combat from ac3.

That's the one thing I don't like about Odyssey.
I'm glad in Valhalla they corrected this. You don't have to slash and stab a human enemy's flesh 100 times to kill them unless they're wearing armor like the zealots for example. But during raids many times I one shot killed enemies and unlike Odyssey, when I assassinate with the hidden blade it kills them instantly. I like Black Flag's combat, while it seems very similar to AC3's combat it's actually harder, counterattacks have smaller windows
It was also extremely easy. You could literally be brain dead and still be fine.
@@thesovietdrugdealer.7166 but it was fun
unlike odyssey or origins. they failed the whole point of ac
@Cyberdemon Mike so is AC3
Who cares if it’s easy. It’s better than fighting immersion breaking damage sponges with terrible animations
I think I am the only one here who also loves origins, odyssey and Valhalla...as well as other ac games....
I'm a long time AC fan. I was a little perturbed when I saw they were changing the formula with Origins but I still pre-ordered and mostly enjoyed it. When I saw what Odyssey was becoming I decided it would be the first AC game that I skipped at launch. Bought it once it hit $20 2 months later. It really killed AC for me. It was like a fantasy game all of a sudden where your skill tree became super powers rather than actual skills. Origins was like that but not as extreme. I decided to skip Valhalla until last week actually. Found it for a measly $12 and decided ok it can't be that bad...I was wrong. Wtf happened?!?! The combat is atrocious and the game is just incredibly boring. I miss Unity style. I went back to just replaying the old games. So much more satisfying.
Edit: I've changed my tune on this game and I am enjoying it a lot now. It's way too long for me but since switching to playing on PS5 halfway through the game I have noticed many improvements that have really made playing Valhalla a nice experience for me. I'm a fan now.
100% agree. Origins is one of my favourite ac games and bayek my favourite protagonist, but oddysey and oddyseys protagonists are the complete opposite.
Agreed! Origins is the best of the RPG games. Stealth really broke in the next two though.. Odyssey's was unimaginatively easy, even on Nightmare mode, and Valhalla's was extremely difficult. I swear an Anglo-Saxon soldier could detect me if he we're on the other side of the globe. Trash stealth system s in both games.
You can thank the same idiots who couldn't move past AC2 and shat on all attempts of Ubisoft to breathe fresh air for the saga on more than 7 games.
Your clearly not a Viking fan but yeah it’s pretty much just a Viking game except for the end with the simulation machine and the weird Reincarnation of Odin but as a Viking geek I appreciate the Viking spirit in this title
@@UlfhednarAxe no you are wrong. I am a viking fan. I actually have changed my mind on the combat a bit though. I still don't think it's great, but it's pretty decent. I originally played on PS4 but since switching to a PS5 and playing at 60 fps the combat feels much better. I don't hate the game at all except for it's length. I'm not into these super long games.
The old combat mechanics allowed you to feel like a badass in combat. The new ones make you feel like a rube.
@BloBby except for the part where they have way too much health so you essentially just mash the attack button the only time you need to dodge is when you’re fighting multiple enemies otherwise you just stun lock everyone to death
@@thisstatementisfalsenothin5312 this wasn't the case in origins but in Odyssey the enemies were damage sponges. Anyway the combat in Valhalla looks great imo
@@bencogan6847 I agree

@@Electrifize Really? That's bad.

Unity takes skill AC3 you just feel like a badass with those counter kills 😂
It's a shame you didn't show counter kills using tools in ac3/liberation and black flag/freedom cry and rogue for example pistol kills. They made the combat so much more satisfying and diverse. Surprised no one mentioned it already, seems like not a lot of people know about this. Good video anyway thanks for your work!
Unity and syndicate are underrated af
absolutely! especially syndicate
Unity sucks the worst. The whole combat system is clunky, also for some reason the story revolved around you going to place and killing 1. Guy and repeat
@@Barttoocool nah mate, that's Valhalla, clunky af
@@Barttoocool ok
There my favorites!
The axe in Ac3 is one of the best weapons ever in the franchise
The older combat system feels so good, there’s nothing better than disarming someone with a well timed counter
i find unity's combat perfect for an AC game, it's challenging when you fight against multiple enemies which acknowledges the player to actually use stealth not just for looks and fun but also to prevent them from seriously dying. The combat also makes sense unlike odyssey when you stab an enemy multiple times to the head and they're still alive just cause they have a higher level than you are. Unity's combat is a perfect balance imo
'Seriously' dying?
Unity combat was boring and way to easy like every AC game from this period.
@@TingelTangelBob19 no believe me that wasnt easy the enemys had health bars but not like rpg and your attack depends on the weapon not on your lvl
@@TingelTangelBob19 Unity combat was light years ahead of the bullshit damage sponge RPG mechanics foisted upon us since origins.
@8IghtyFour Stop lying lol unity combat was easy af
2:25 how clean is that wow
Unity was my favorite AC ever. It felt so good to play. And the customization was great.
I absolutely loved the assassination chaining in brotherhood, where if it did the little cinematic kill, you could instantly kill the person next to you and just keep doing it until interrupted

Kinda reminds me of shadow of war except he doesnt decapitate the head. Man that game was brutal
I think the thing Assassin’s Creed 1 did best was letting you know when to run and hyping you up a bit. Overall, the game was pretty good for like 2007, and it feels like a starting point for some of the other AC games.
I agree, you can definitely see how it laid the foundation for all the other ACs and the progess over the years is noticeable. It was also so sick after an assassination as you run away, dodging drunks and lepers all the way back to the hideout as the bell rings.
Feels like a starting point? It is literally THE starting point for all AC games haha.
It is based on Alamut by Vladimir Bartol. The game is intense af if you try to pay attention to the philosophies it deals with, much like the intensity of the book itself.
This should be "1 minute of picking a fight from every Assassin's Creed"
3:56 god i love that animation. it never gets old
Gonna be honest, hate the new combat... flaming swords, spears that extend to three times their length when you take them off your back, I know AC has never been super realistic, but some things break immersion far too much
@CobaltMusketeer At least it's better than half assed Witcher 3 combat.
Who is Emerson and why was her broken

The new ones i just dont consider them assasins creed anymore. But i did enjoy a fantasy open world rpg set in ancient Greece without regarding this "Assassins Creed" thing.
i like to see Alexios/Kassandra as an actual demi-god which fits a lot in that ancient greek fantasy the game is going for therefore i dont mind all the unrealistic stuff
The thing is, AC 1 and AC 2 the combat actually felt heavy, your swords would crash and both men's arms would bounce back, it felt so real (Brotherhood and Revelations perfecting it).
AC 3 was excellent ,so brutal and really felt conner, but AC 4 is where it I think it was not very good. Edwards swords felt so light and they just passed through people, it didn't feel very satisfying.
AC Unity finally went back to the AC1 and AC2 feel which was awesome, quickly shattered by the worst in the series (flimsy, cartoony, very light) in AC S
AC Origins and (especially) AC Ody just became too unrealistic, in that you could impale people and they'd walk it off just cause they were a higher level than you?? (insert nick canon ??? meme). But the actual mechanics were pretty good, if maybe a little stale after a while.
Yeah my favorite is the AC 3 , i don’t like the new one’s like origins and odyssey
AC2-ACR was just PERFECT. What are you talking about? Kindly explain.
Nicky Young, but I see your point
Akshat Monga not sure you’re talking to me but that’s what I’m saying, AC2 - ACR are amazing
My favorite one is syndicate
I like how impactful each hit feels in 1-R
Syndicate and its combo system definitely laid down the blueprint for the hit boxes to come in the RPG elements of the franchise
I'm a fan of the classic combat system but what i don't like about it is when the enemies wait to attack one at a time.
The ac 3 have the old system and they don’t wait , in unity to
My problem with them was when all would attack at once and I just couldn’t evade that.
@@kaidorenji7924 AC 3 had the old system in which universe dude?
@@kaidorenji7924 AC3 had new engine and had new combat which was great. Then Unity had another new engine and new combat which is great again. I believe combat is the only thing that evolves for better in every new AC game.

Ok but the disrespectful slap at 7:19 😂😂 Black Flag is still my favorite and this just makes it even better
Unity is free flowing. That game had amazing animations.
In my opinion Unity has better combat than any other ac game. It's legitimately challenging, you can't go around killing people. If there are more than 10 enemies of different type you will die and also if you are fighting in area where there are those damn snipers on rooftops.
true but it was buggy asf with a sword, I always used a long or heavy weapon cause it would actually be less buggy and look a lot better. They tried something great but it failed a bit.
It's challenging in Origins and Odyssey.
7dayspking wydm. Its easy as shit in odyssey. Takes time to whittle down enemies health, but nothin like the shit you deal in Dark Souls
@@fbitm8089 we are comparing Assassins creed with Assassins creed not Assassins creed odyssey with Dark souls...
I agree with you but not because Unity's combat is challenging, but because it's very fluid, extremely good looking, and nearest to Altair and Ezio combat.
