mr1upz has a crack at ranking every Pokemon League Champion, all the trainers on enough juice to take over their respective regions from worst to best compiled in a nice Pokemon Champion tier list (kinda). Every known contender (Well, pre Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Soz Nemona. Zero apologies for that jobber Geeta, worst Pokemon champion by a mile... almost?) that is in the running to be Pokemon world champions. If you've worked your way through my quest to rank every Pokemon League trainer up from my ranking Gym leaders videos and Elite Four ranked, it's time to see who out of all Pokemon Champions, 'The Big Daddies' looming over them are the largest fathers of all...
The Pokemon trainers who should be giving you the hardest Pokemon battles in their respective regions. I'm here to tell all of you that the strongest Pokemon champion isn't Ash Ketchum. Don't care what the anime is saying, he's getting slept by Cynthia, Leon, Steven Stone. He'd fold Trace though in all fairness, don't even have to watch my ramblings to know he's the weakest Pokemon champion.

Red having 3 Blizzard mons in HGSS makes more sense when you realize the permanent Hail makes them have 100% accuracy.

He is canonically at Mount Silver to *train* and has not seen a single human being nor battled one in 3 years.
If you look at Ns teams, barring his champion team, they are made up of Pokemon that can be found around whatever area you battle him in. So he picks them up, battles you with them, releases them and then just leaves.
He's like a Pokemon Ranger that really wanted to be a trainer.
Then there's his teams in B2W2!
He's got four different weather-based teams, one for each season and each of them are stacked!
For someone that battles Pokémon and then releases them

The fact that Cynthia places fear into the hearts of 2 generations of trainers is enough to know she's the #1 champ. Literally on vacation and throwing hands with any 10 yr old with some balls under their belt.

Cynthia is the obvious top dog here, but let's not forget that in BDSP, her team is basically perfect EVs and IVs, with a team that would be considered pretty decent in the game's OU tier apart from spiritomb

surprisingly only red can give her a run for her money because in lets go eevee he's has lv 85 pokemon with a mega venusuar with perfects stats and ivs
Even spiritomb is great as a spin blocker and will o wisp user.
Cynthia is the only champion where they truly tried to make her challenging. She’s optimally EV trained, perfect IVs, high level scaling, and holding items like expert belt, sitrus berry, and ice halving berry for Garchomp. Every mom on her team has an item. If other champions had those qualities as well I feel like she would still be one of the strongest but I doubt she’d be the hardest one.
I mean, she outsped my speed, attack ev Gallade with Garchomp. That was the point I realized that death was coming for me. I won second round because I got 3 swords dances off on Gallade against Gastrodon, and survived the earthuake BECAUSE OF POWER OF FRIENDSHIP. Yes. My pride still hurts

Blue’s team gets even better when you realize it was built for gen 1 where psychic types (and especially alakazam) were OP. He legit had the best team for his time.
In Pokemmo he's a total nightmare to fight cuz Pokemmo rebalanced the ai and difficulties of Region's, I had to change my team like 2 times to beat him and then Indigo Plateau was so much worse with Lance too 😭

@@tejasgokhale7783 oh yeah, listing them off by what they were when he caught them, we’ve got Cent the Alolan Meowth, Dollar the Litten, Quarter the Wishiwashi, Penny the Mimikyu, the Pokémon of discussion Loot the Crabominable, and the only weird one is Ray the Stakataka (I can’t find a currency called Ray, closest thing I can find is some investor guy called Ray Dalio). While he’d still put Sun at the bottom for owning the unga bunga crab, I think he might give Loot some credit since it was basically a mob boss leading a bunch of Crabrawler, took over a whole ship at the Seafolk Village docks, and actually jumped Sun and beat the shit out of him before it joined his team and even then it acted like it was doing Sun a favor.

in Gen 1 he runs Hyper Beam on like 3 pokemon and the pokemon doesn't need to recharge if it gets a KO in gen 1
You ask why half the champions in the world have a Vanilluxe, as if the other half don't main a dragon type. As if they don't need some protection in case Lance shows up at their place to raid their fridge. Just open up the freezer and BAM! death by ice cream.

The rockruff is there to beat the vanilluxe, Gyarados is there to beat rockruff, and Pikachu is there to beat gyarados
Guess because Lance is also notoriously weak to rock, especially in the main game for both GS and HGSS where all his Pokémon have a weakness to rock.

Charizard getting destroyed by STAB 4x stealth rocks kinda justifies the pebble puppies
For the guy who gives Red a Lapras, they were an endangered species at the time, and Team Rocket's whole thing is stealing pokemon, especially rare ones, so it seems pretty reasonable that the guy wouldn't reveal the fact that he had one onhand. He'd have definitely become a primary target.
Cannon wise Gold/Silver and Emerald breeding programmes replenished them
@@DWilson66 apparently, (if I got my sources right) the breeding program lore bit in the Pokédex entries were a result of a fan reading the dex entry of lapras and feeling so bad for the species that he decided to breed and then release a metric ton of them into the wild, I think he posted his progress somewhere high profile (or maybe even live streamed it if the time period allows, I barely remember the story’s details, I only recall the gist of it) because otherwise the game freak employee that decided to acknowledge that persons repopulation efforts wouldn’t have seen it in the first place.

Looking at their teams, Wallace could easily beat Steven.
Wailord with higher speed and water spout can easily dispose Skarmory.
Tentacruel with liquid ooze and toxic is the bane of Steven's Cradily's existence ( and Cradily was the most troublesome Pokémon in Steven's team to face for me because of how annoying it was )
Armaldo and Aggron are useless against Wallace.
Claydol can certainly set up screens but looking at Wallace's Milotic's moveset ( toxic + recover ), Milotic can easily beat Claydol.
Regular Metagross dies easily against Whiscash and his Gyarados has Earthquake.
Mega Metagross is probably the only bit of challenge. Still, Whiscash and Gyarados ( latter with dragon dance and intimidate ) can take care of it.
If Gyarados can Mega Evolve, well, then goodbye Mega Metagross; there's no way you are beating that thing.
And that's not even talking about his super annoying Ludicolo ( I remember wiping once because of it as Ludicolo had double team, leech seed and giga drain and I had bad RNG ).
So Wallace succeeding Steven made so much sense for me.
Though team wise, Wallace could beat nearly any Champion because of how much vulnerable they are against water and ice. Red, Cynthia and Diantha are the only ones who have fair chance of beating him, and Leon has a slim chance of beating with his Rillaboom team.

But he has easily the biggest asshole team of any champ going.
You may beat him, but he'll beat damn near all of your last nerves.
That Toxic Milotic, Ludicolo, and Seadra are freaking annoying as hell.

Leons team is actually goated the fact that the last 2 slots are a counter to your starter and the type that counters his for coverage is crazy. It would be quite the squad for competitive battling as well
Tbh the combat was pretty easy, still not a reason to not love him
He was piss easy as was all galar.
The only Pokémon I remembered he had was the charizard. His team on paper might have been good but he was piss easy. Which doesn't bug me unlike every other person who plays Pokémon but I do wonder at the people who thought he was decent. Steven my first playthrough of ORAS was more difficult.

Facts
Most of Alder's team is based on sacred Native American animals. The moth, the buffalo, the lizard. the other half is just, fucking strange. Its neat that Alder was given the honors of being the best champion in the world (before Leon) but holy shit if he can only get better, he's going sicko mode.
And in his pwt fight he uses a Pokémon from each elite 4 as well, Conkeldurr for Marshall, Reuniclus for Caitlin, Chandelure for Shauntal and Krookidile for Grimsly
Cynthia is so strong, people fear the music that constantly plays in her Champion Room and abandon there.
And for those who do continue, most of them develop Planophobia after their team's bean demolished by angry spirits in a weird looking stone, an happy angel, an underground shark, a sentient walking flower, a pretty sea snake and an aura wolf.

The whole irony is that despite Red losing a lot…. He’s displayed as a really powerful trainer, almost to the power Cynthia has, at least in the spin-offs, as most characters don’t ever really appear in other official Pokémon games.
Red is the first protagonist of pokemon so he gets special treatment.
Mostly because unlike any other trainer, Red is (or was pre Alola) a free man who is (was) doing his own thing. That until the people of Alola asked him and Blue to run as the two bosses of the battle tree.
And also because he is canonically one of the two only trainers in the pokemon universe, being known as a "legendary" trainer with the other one being Blue.
I mean we never fought the guy at full strength would love the challenge of fighting him with mewtwo and anyone of the legendary birds

@@jointser1008 actually yes and no. The reason they are titled as the two "legendary" trainers is because of both their historic deeds and their power scale. Both are the bosses of the battle tree, even Cynthia who is regarded as one of the strongest amongst the champs, was placed below Red and Blue as a side-boss. This alone proves that they are the two strongest trainers and while N is definitly something or someone very special, he is nowhere near Red and Blue level of strong and probably not even with his Reshiram.
18:05 not a league champion or game protag, but fun fact: a "trainer Yellow" does exist in the manga. she's not the actual champion or even much of a battler (theres a Red for that universe too), but a Yellow does exist, and they have spirit bombed their world's Lance with a couple of ubercharged thunderbolts, complete with magic forest power shenanigans (to counterract Lance also having said forest powers... its a long story)

I always imagine how much stronger Leon, Kukui, Steven and Mustard would be if they had their Pokémon hold items. I mean, Steven kind of does in the BW2 tournament which is really challenging, but I’m the remakes. They are all strong without items, but I feel Kukui and Leon would especially be monsters. If they ever get the Cynthia treatment and come back like Cynthia did in bw and sun/moon, I hope they come back even stronger with held items

Leon might be finally at least a bit of a challenge, Kukui would be very hard, Steven would be harder than normal but not that hard, and not sure about mustard.

I think it's unlikely there is ever going to be another champion to rival Cynthia in sheer force.
Platinum is my absolute favourite Pokémon game to this day, and she's one of the main reasons for that (alongside the Giratina story, and Sinnoh being a fantastic region)

For Blue, I actually associate him with Charizard because my first Pokemon exposure was the manga where Red got Venasaur.
fun fact: N’s pokemon are almost always found in the area you fight him in, save for special cases like his zorua/legendary
Let's also not forget that Cynthia dint pull a voldo on ya and just slap on a giratina with two forms after you beat all 6 of her pokemon. Also her battle theme you know your in for it when that piano starts kicking off.
Gotta say, I had huge Pokémon burnout during Gen 7 to the point where I bought and played USUM but never finished either even to this day. However SWSH absolutely reignited me. I loved every second and the wild area is just the change I needed. Leon is my favorite champion in the whole series. After you beat him he actually does something. Accepts he’s the “ex-champ” and moved on to the next thing. Such a great character
I recommend you finish USUM. It's an improvement over SM in almost every way.

The seemingly random aspect of N's team was just him having pokemon that were available in areas near where yo ufought him. Sort of implies he just picked up a group of 'friends' to help him out against you while you were in the same place.

When I fought Cynthia in BDSP her Milotic was the biggest hurdle for me. It took me ages of tanking with my Gastrodon to get past it and the only reason I finally beat her was because my tank did a little bit more damage compared to hers. Definitely the best champion
Not only is Mr1upz absolutely hilarious but he sounds so much like Reyn from xenoblade that I just imagine him intensely ranking things in pokemon and it makes me laugh even more.

With the reputation Diantha has I’m shocked that you ranked her quite high. Not that I’m complaining as one of her few fans lol.
Pokemon has always done Diantha dirty, especially in the anime. I hate Leon partially because he completely humiliated her just so the writers could jerk off about how awesome he is.
Diantha's team actually has the potential to be a real challenge if the game designers would just put in the work. The most significant change I would make is to replace Goodra with Blissey. Yes, I know Goodra's a Pseudo-Legendary but it rightfully belongs to Drasna and Blissey, along with Gourgeist and Aurorus, creates a stronger defensive core for the more offensive members of the team to rally around. Gourgeist in particular can switch into Fighting type moves which, unless they're coming from a Scrappy Pokemon, will do absolutely nothing to it and save Blissey and Aurorus from being clobbered by them. It could even cause massive damage without even attacking by switching into any Pokemon foolish enough to use Jump Kick or High Jump Kick, apart from Mega Lopunny.

@@veenadayma6514 Diantha's Gardevoir alone could sweep Iris' Dragons. Hydriegon in particular would be cowering in a corner if Gardevoir just looked at it the wrong way. Salamence might win if it could Mega Evolve and Haxorus has a Focus Sash but Hydriegon and Druddigon would be no problem at all and when you're battling any Champion who isn't as weak as Wallace or Geeta (seriously, why the fuck is Glimmora her signature Pokemon?), you can't afford to fall behind.
For the BDSP remakes, the game was really easy until Cynthia. So I used a mono-bug type team to make it more difficult. But the champion battle was SUPER challenging with that team 😂

Trace's Mega Pidgeot was pretty scary, though.
But after it was dealt with, it was an easy sweep from there.
I remember in my Let’s Go Eevee nuzlocke, I expected Trace to be a piece of cake.
His Pidgeot opened up with Heat Wave, on my fire resistant Kingler, but it did like over half of their HP and I had to stall out until he ran out of PP.
Needless to say, that was intense
ngl from my personal experience I had 0 issues sweeping Traces Pidgeot, mainly because I didn't wanna use my pikachu on my team and opted out for Zapdos instead.

i agree that cynthia is the strongest trainer i have only beat her while being underleveled in bdsp nuzlockes because i soft reseted for a salac berry to beat her entire team bdsp with. a garchomp plus sword dances to beat her without items
Finally decided to finish SP the other day and after barely escaping Flint by the skin of my teeth (5/6 of my Pokémon are either weak to fire or have an ability that makes them weak to fire, and even with only 2 actual fire types he still nearly beat me), I got brick walled by Cynthia. Started the fight well enough, was going 5v3 with not too much resistance aside from the Milotoc and all of a sudden her Roserade pulls an Uno reverse card and makes it a 2v3 and by the time the Roserade went down nothing I had left could even dent Lucario. The rest of the game is a bit of a joke thanks to affection and not being balanced around the modern exp share, but shit went from 0 to 100 at the league.

I'm gonna get dragged, but i had a harder time fighting Iris than Cynthia or Leon. With Cynthia, the key is knowing when to switch mons and I'd say the same with Leon. With Iris, all her mons have such a scary movepool that even if you switch into Aggron or Haxorus successfully, they'll almost ALWAYS get that dragon dance or automize in, and then you're absolutely fcked, and also her aggron doesn't take recoil and has DOUBLE EDGE and now DOUBLE SPEED.
Idk yeah cynthia and leon are clearly the hardest, but iris is kinda terrifying and way too underrated.
Cynthia is the hardest, Leon was never hard, he just would have potential because of his balanced team.
I used to think Challenge Mode Iris was the toughest Champion of all time. She had:
Flying Gem Acrobatics Archeops
Focus Sash Dancing Haxorus
Hydreigon with nice coverage
Another pseudolegendary in Salamence.
And then BDSP Cynthia happened. She had:
Nasty Plot Lucario. But even scarier,
Porygon-Z that hits harder than a truck and that Hyper Beam almost one shots anything
Paraflinching Togekiss
Flame Orb + Mirror Coat Milotic
Swords Dance + Yache Berry Garchomp
And then Cynthia became strongest Champion without any controversy. And that's without including the fact that she had perfect EVs...
Honestly her Hydreigon is SO TOUGH. Like, it’s coverage is so good that it nearly always has a move that is super effective against you, and paired with it’s crazy Sp Atk, it nearly always 1 hit ko’s you immediately. Literally the only way to beat it, is to have a pokemon faster than it, that can KO it in one go first. I lost to iris so many times just because my team was half dead by the time I got past her first pokemon 😭😭
I was wondering who'd make #1 but yeah Cynthia makes a lot of sense. out of all champions, she's the only one who has ever beat me in a game.
well technically I beat her in the diamond remake but I got carried by the friendship mechanic so it's basically a loss.

I know plot armor and whatnot means Ash is gonna beat Cynthia to go fight Leon on the finals in the current anime tournament, but man, Leon vs Cynthia would be 100x more exciting, with her winning, obviously, her battle against Iris was bloodthirsty, they did NOT need to add glowing red eyes to her Garchomp after he entered the battle and they literally started playing organ music with gregorian chants, I don't think they could've painted her as more menacing without going out of the intended age target for the anime.
So far though ash vs cynthia is actually turning out to be a great match so far.

@@infamousplayer8772 Wrong. Ash only defeated Cynthia because of plot armour. Togekiss knows Zen Headbutt so Cynthia could easily have used Max Mindstorm to set up Psychic Terrain and make Lucario's Bullet Punch, the only move he knows that actually threatens Togekiss, completely useless. Even if he pulled his forgotten Steel Beam out of his ass, the recoil would have made him too weak to handle Garchomp, who had to take a lot of chip damage from repeated Bullet Punches before Reversal could finish her off.
It's the same with Leon. As much as I hate Leon, he absolutely could have crushed Ash if not for plot armour. Cinderace has Libero and Scorching Sands so if Leon had used Max Quake after Gigantamaxing it, Ash wouldn't have stood a chance. Even if, by some miracle, Pikachu managed to beat a Ground type Gigantamax Cinderace, Charizard would have wiped the floor with him.
The writers literally made Cynthia and Leon weaker just so that Ash could win. In-universe, the only explanation for Leon is that he got cocky and the only explanation for Cynthia is that she was going easy on Ash because she was bored of winning all the time. If they'd actually been taking him seriously, they would have crushed Ash easily. Cynthia's Spiritomb wiped out half of his team and was laughing at him as it did so.
One thing I'll always love about this channel, is that after watching half an hour of his magnificent speech and vocabulary, you can feel how he has rubbed off on all the people in the comments, as you can almost read them in his voice

Lance was more difficult to beat than Leon to me his Dragonite knowing thunderbolt messed up my runs back then when there weren’t as many Pokémon to choose from in the game vs now with the wild area and all the other terrains it was too easy to beat Lance in the championship really all the new Pokémon games have a broken leveling system and make it easier to get good Pokémon if Leon was on red maybe he would’ve been more of a challenge but now a days Pokémon is just to easy
Even back in HGSS and GSC, Lance was super easy to beat. Most of his team members have a quad weakness to a single type, and in his initial HGSS fight his whole team is weak to rock types. I don't think that modern pokemon games have broken leveling systems. I think that older pokemon games had very poor leveling systems. If the only way a pokemon trainer is difficult is not because their team but because you are under-leveled, that means that the trainer isn't actually hard.
Cynthia is also the only trainer to competitively train their team.
