Synopsis :
Welcome to an exam-cheating business run by ‘Lynn’ (Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying), a straight-A student who gets the idea for her business after helping ‘Grace’ (Eisaya Hosuwan) and ‘Pat’, (Teeradon Supapunpinyo). Grace is a prominent school activist who can’t get the grades she needs. Pat is a filthy-rich boy who believes money can buy anything. Lynn’s business skyrockets and the money starts to flood in as scores of students offer her cold hard cash in exchange for exam answers.
One day, Lynn is offered the opportunity to make millions of Baht. It is Pat and Grace who devise a plan for her to take the STIC test, an international standardised test for students wanting to enrol in the world’s leading universities. The test is scheduled to take place on the same date and same time at locations all over the world.
Although it will be extremely difficult to pull off, their plan is for Lynn to fly to a country in a time zone that’s ahead of Thailand, and then send the answers back to her customers. The only setback is that they need another genius scholar to help them pass on the answers in Thailand, and the only person that fits the profile is ‘Bank’ (Chanon Santinatornkul), Lynn’s scholarship-student rival who staunchly detests cheating of any kind.
What will Lynn do to convince Bank to overcome his moral dilemma and help them?

Your grades only shows the total output of your performance that can be manipulated in many ways from intelligence / cheating
Asian people are very smart, but they have low level of genius per capital, which the European are dominating in this area.
Almost all of the scientific innovation are contributed by European people (fact).
The dominated concept of genius in many Asian countries are people who score the highest score on the test, which I see as inaccurate/untrue.
As a teacher and also an exam supervisor staff, I felt like I was a villain after watching this film. lol
Test proctors/invigilators are there for a reason. They are suppose to do their job

Kinda wanna watch this now. I see the need for testing knowledge BUT as a person who's grades do not always reflect my intelligence, I get why people cheat. You're basically ranking yourself on a numerical scale so that other people can judge you and if that number doesn't accurately reflect you as a person, but rather a moment in your life, that can be a big problem especially if everything else is hinging on it. I was sick in undergrad. Missed most of my classes and still was able to teach myself the material and graduate with a 3.01 in Chemistry, Forensic Science, and Psychology. Yet me being sick and teaching myself 90% of the material isn't a factor in the grading scale when it comes to grad school or med school etc. They want the number not what someone is actually capable of and that's why we have crap doctors in America. There's more to medicine than taking a test. Real world application and being able to self teach are a huge part of it. Thank goodness some med schools and universities are seeing this and deviating away from the traditional scale. I went on to continue in classes and made a 4.0 so it worked out for me in the end, but still. I can see the problem :) But that doesn't make teachers or exam supervisors the bad guys. It actually means we need more of teachers and exam supervisors input and less input from people who don't actually work in this profession!

A brilliant film exposing a dark side of education. Education has become a huge business: the institutions hunger for profit, teachers want to earn more bucks, and students want the easiest possible way. This is not just a film, it's a reflection of our society's changing values towards education.
I couldn't agree more. Teachers giving extra classes to their own students outside of school hours teaching exactly the same topic they should have been teaching well during class hours, and they get paid more than twice as much as they would normally get from their regular salary. They have more incentives teaching extra classes after school. What a sad state.
Bybrum Lemana but its not like that everywhere. Where i come from, teachers work extra hours - tutoring without getting extra. Sometimes they even have to do stuff totally unrelated to what they teach, most times for free. Its sad either way tho :(

I'm really glad someone has put a much deeper thought on this movie and is not content with its face value. This movie has a lot to give if you are just willing to examine on it deeper.
Yes this reflects the dark side of education in some countries (where certificates are more important than knowledge). If you live in such country you will see it clearly.
Just watched. For a movie with no violence/fighting/horror there was so much suspense in this film! This movie is really special. I highly recommend it.

Bad Genius is unbelievably good. It's more exciting than many Hollywood thrillers. The plot and characters are well-designed and executed, with a consummate performance by Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying as Lynn, the cheating teenage genius. Besides dealing with moral issues of cheating at exams and profiting from the dishonesty, the movie also highlights class inequality, social, and teenage issues. The movie is up there among the best and well-worth watching again.

Honestly, this movie was so out of the ordinary and perfect. Full of suspense and thrill. Made me question about my morals to an extent, which is something a lot of movies never do. 10/10 honestly.
Me too... It made me think of the circumstances why people cheat... I felt heartbroken for bank at the same time, i want him to win at life.

I knew this movie from my teacher instead. Like… a week before the end of semester's test, she played this movie to our class. But I only got to watch the intro before the bell rang, and sadly I didn't get to watch this at that time. But then before she left, she told us the main idea of this movie, and she told us "cheating is allowed, as long as you're not caught. and remember to be smart, even if it only comes to cheating." 😂😂
This is why you need to practice before doing it, and never use the same method as the one that's being used by senior, movies, etc, create your own moves

I remember that the director Nattawut Poonpiriya,
asked me to improvise at the scene.
After I did my improve act at the scene,
I made everybody laugh.
The director laughed, too and said to me:
"This is not a comedy movie". :-)
So I had to be quiet at the scene.

thai movies are so underrated and cornered into niche market in Indonesia. I hope they will make it big in South East Asia for the beginning, seriously not many country is able to make a meaningful teenage movie like GDH always does (previously GTH).

5/5 for me. This movie really moved me to be a better son to my mother and a hardworking student.
I picked this Netflix movie to watch with my college going daughter without knowing much about its background. It just seemed interesting. Is that an understatement or what!! I dont think any movie in recent times has captivated us this much. The cinematography is wonderful, the plot superb and the social commentary outstanding. I am going to watch more Thai films from now onwards.

I suggest you try "Happy Old Year" next, available on Netflix. I think this movie is also pretty good but sadly it never got to shine due to Pandemic.
Its overall theme is about "Moving on" and conflict between people who stuck in the past and people who sacrifice part of themselves in order to move on. This movie is heavy on Drama with a bit of Romance spice on it.

Idk why Thai Dramas are kinda underrated as compared to Kdrama. I've watched almost all GTH and GDH movies, and other Thai movies produced by others and it never fails me. :) Very happy to know it will be released in the Philippinesss :D an avid fan of thdrama. After Chinese dramas, I got hooked on Thai dramas, BL comes first because a guy, yes a guy in my class recommended tons of BL after he knew I found myself Love By Chance and watched all the eps. After that, I keep binge watching BL. Then, now I will watch Thai great movies. Btw, there is a kdrama attract me, it's called The Fiery Priest. Just from the title, you have known it has no "shipping". But, review has it, the storyline is great. It's an action series tho

The bittersweet ending is the cherry on top imho. Had she accepted the offer the emotions she was putting on wouldve been for nothing, as she hadnt learnt a single thing. Or had their relationship grown into romance, nothing would make any sense since it would feel rushed(there was not enough build up) especially bcs it contradicts bank's feelings about being expelled and had his future crumbles before his eyes bcs of lynn (in/directly). Nevertheless one of the best movies ive seen in the last 5 years, and yes im a movie junkie and exploring gdh movies has instantly been one of my top priority of choices thanks to this masterpiece.

I watched this in Vietnam and it was so good and gripping that I didn't finish eating my popcorn by the time the movie had finished. Despite it was her first acting job but the one who acted Lynn was such a natural and she acted amazingly well.

I understand why some people tell the ending of this story was not good, but I actually could say that it's good and much realistic, just not a happy ending like most of the movies..

@Yoswin Freeman imo bank's character is slightly shown when he snitch his cheating friend. But at that time, the cheating had nothing to do with him.
At the end, it's almost the same thing but it escalated bc this time it cost him.

I felt bad when Bank joined the dark side........ And felt bad for Lynn too... For corrupting him....
Bank didn't want any of the bad things and only wanted to achieve good things for his mother. He turned downwards when everything he worked hard for all turned for nothing and went to the easy path of earning money.
I'm actually glad Lynn saw this as a light to move out of the cheating system they created but saddened how Bank entered and has nothing to hold on to except for it.
I actually thought they had something special but i guess it's only the feeling. :/

I watched this film a couple of hours ago in Sydney. It was surreal to see A-list Thai actors in a movie partly set in Sydney! This film was fantastic and i hope more Thai films will gain traction in Australia. I think Thailand is producing so much excellent content in the last few years, I should study Thai so I can watch without subtitles. Haha
I never really appreciate Thai's films. Most of them show the lack of passion, or just dull clumpsy script writing. This movie, however, blew me away. One of the best movies of the year indeed. This film needs recognition. The script is smart, witty and intense. The cinematography is masterful. The acting is very on point. Keep making movies that are quality like this, and Thailand will surely mark its name in the cinema world. Big thumbs up from Vietnam!!!

A major factor behind the rampant issue of cheating is having high academic expectations - which is impractical, arrogant, and unaffordable in the modern times

I just watched this movie... It stuck into my heart... It's so freaking good. I was laughing in the beginning. Then, there are moments I got scared, nervous... Then, I felt pity, sympathy. I believe that if this movie achieved wider recognition, it would've won at least one Oscar and been nominated multiple times at the Academy Awards. Asian films like this aren't very popular here in the western side. I live in America and it's not popular here at all. I knew about this movie because of my interest in the Thai language and culture

thai films is more step further compare than any countries in ASEAN. Such a cool story-line and an amazing cinematography. Hope the film industry of my country can move on from a cheesy soap operas with a lame of love story.

This is extraordinary, Hollywood movie should be ashamed, they use stupid actors and plot filled with low quality CGI to fool viewers, this is a solid proof that well thought movie could be way more attractive than a failed "blockbuster".

Probably the best Thai film I have seen. The movie's pacing, script, acting, cinematography were all on point. A delight to watch.
