Really wish they done the dinner for schmucks thing. Bobo, Ira, Big A, Chip/Edgar/Uncle Paul/Ted, maybe Patti, Sandy Kane, Vos, Francine, Erock, hell got enough for a small TV series
Not disagreeing about production companies not taking risks because of money BTW. They've been evading directors that go over budget since the early 1980's. More specifically since AN (1979). But PC does still have a roll in film. Production companies avoid projects for a variety of reasons and these are two of 'em.
Actually they do! That's the whole point of doing a remake in the first place! To change the "public's" opinion of the original, whether it be the story, the characters, the special FX or a combination of all 3. So they definitely do affect the original. Are they going to physically affect the original? No, of course not. But you're wrong if you don't think there is an affect.
@CraigMetalHead From the start of the film, if there was no "political correctness". Then the director can choose ANY direction for the film to take but unfortunatly if he has to look at the last 5 minutes to teach a moraled message or change a certain character's personality. It can take the magic away from what the director had originally planned.
The best comedies in history have been gloriously un-PC. And lately, "message" comedies, rom-coms and "anything-goes," slapstick-style comedies are all pretty much dead. Generally all comedies today suck balls. Give me '70s and '80s comedies any day. Give me Mel Brooks, give me early ZAZ, give me "Silver Streak," "Tootsie" & "Arthur."
@CraigMetalHead But comedies having to be PC are surpressing the true potential for the film to be funny. Any film that still pulls through as a good comedy is just done really well.
What leap did you make to ascert it has nothing to do with PC and it just has to do with unoriginal writing? He noted a hypothetical example about how PC can get in the way of things. How does that have nothing to do with it? The example is itself.
Why can't they remake a poorly made, low budge movie, or one that would greatly benefit from updated special effects instead of remaking good movies that are just old? HIGHLANDER comes to mind.
@iamyourgranddaddy Or maybe something that isn't based on a Marvel comic. Thor is the latest one. It must be a new rule for the 21st century cinema. "There shall be a Marvel movie in the cinema at all times, any deviation from this rule will result in the complete destruction of the Earth".
This might actually be the best take here. Why do they feel the compulsion to write more? They don’t need to! It’s all the same! Why would you write a repeat story? Blows my mind we need 8 of the same movies some times. It’s a waste of time. Just do nothing instead!
Political Correctness is an idea concerned with enforcing a social narrative onto people. A collectivist philosophy meant to tell the individual what they can say and what they mean by it, too. It is pretentious in two ways (that I can see). It acts as if something subjective is objective. Might I add how dumb the term is? As if to say one is certifiably correct in politics. Hey, why not social correctness? Now that I think of it, political correctness is a bad phrase.
Everytime I hear Opie say "Dinner with the Schmucks" I get reminded of a dad figure misnaming something.
I like the way you think
Laugh, I like the MST3K picture. Many can't believe I just noticed that.

48% Dinner for Schmucks on Rotten Tomatoes. Opie's definitely got good taste

I agree.
8:03… the moment they came up with the idea for a Super Show. Damn it to hell. That’s how we know there was never a god.

Has anybody noticed Anthony likes to repeat other people's jokes while laughing?
+92days Yeah, he also says "as they say" a lot, but mostly on his own show.
+92days Yeah he's not very progressive

Now Hollywood wants to remake Old Boy. Don't know why the fuck they are redoing that movie.
@FayeValentine666 Makes sense that Opie's a fan

Instead of remaking well remembered movies, take a crap movie and make it better.
They are not dead.

I can't deal with all these remakes and all these stupid comic book movies.

Or just not write anything. We've got plenty of goddamn movies and TV shows.

@purplehaze26 What is being kept out of comedies by "political correctness"?
Jeff Dunham is in this movie?? I'M OUT!
Stop blaming "PC" for everything... some comedy is good and some comedy isnt. Not everything is going to be funny.
remake the resident evil movies or dreamcatcher, something that sucked....make it good, don't remake GREAT films.....
No, granddad from two years ago.
I can't deal with all these remakes and all these stupid comic book movies.
