We have brutal winters here in Wisconsin, lot of ice, so I use a spin bike indoors over the winter months. I think motivating myself to spend 30 to 40 minutes indoors on that spin bike is a lot harder than getting outside on the bike. I'm 76, but being on that bike, outdoors, makes me young again.
It’s been a tough, tough year for me. I haven’t been on the bike in over four months and I’m that time I’ve managed to rack up 25 extra pounds. That’s nearly 11 1/2 kg!!! I need to get my arse out on the saddle. Leonard, I really enjoy the content you provide because I totally relate to you. Thank you for being a constant inspiration!
Top man! I made the decision last week to get my act together and only use the car to get to work and back 2 days a week. Mark Beaumont talks about the ‘doorstep challenge’ and basically says the hardest part of a bike ride is getting the front wheel beyond the doorstep. After a couple of kilometres you may as well just carry on. One way is to arrange to meet up with a mate and that way you are both more likely to show up.
Dear Leonard - I've got so much from your videos encouraging folk like me who are aged and overweight. You have been such a breath of fresh air in the cultural machismo of our current culture. I applaud you. You don't have to prove anything! Either to us or to yourself, I always give you a 'like' when I first tune in because I know that what follows will be worthwhile and informative and useful to us oldies. Wind - when I was on Unst after my End to End ride a saw the square patch of ground where once stood a shed in which a young newly-wed couple spent their New Year's Eve and were swept over the cliffs -shed and all - in an almighty blast that must have been well over Force 10. Wind can be a bit of a bu--er! Hills - try the 'triple hill' out of Crediton north, north east. It's not nice! Sorry about your UA-cam guru. May he RIP and RIG. Like you, I have a soft spot for nutters! Best wishes from Paul in the Midlands
We all have an “inner slob” which rears its ugly head especially this time of year. Weather here in Seattle is similar to the UK in that it’s cold, rainy, and gets dark early. Props to u for getting out on a beautiful day
Your cinematography is always great, and it really made a winter ride look appealing. Cheers from Northern California USA where we've hit the rainy season and it looks like indoor riding this week. Happy holidays and thank you for the year-round inspiration!
Merry Christmas Leonard. I'm barely getting out at the moment. Once, twice a week weather allowing. It's hard though. Looks like I am going to finish the year at around 4,500 miles, which is not quite what I wanted, but I am not complaining. Let's hope 2022 brings better news. I don't know about you all, but I am drained mentally.
Man, you nailed it…. The time and effort to kit up and still have cold hands is what demotivates me…. But, that said, the dry, clear skies are brilliant….
Thanks for a year of honest, informative and entertaining video's over this past year. Love them, keep them coming. Have a great festive period. Keep safe and healthy. All the very best tae Scotland.
Thanks Leonard .... You are right, it can be difficult to get motivated through winter, even over here in Australia. I've thoroughly enjoyed following your adventures this year and looking forward to further episodes in 2022 .... Have a very Merry Christmas.
Leo, you are truly a kindred spirit. Judging from the comments, we’re not alone! Loved the Freudian slip when you decided to avoid the hills and keep it “flat!” Merry Christmas from Oakland California to you and your family.
I was a wee bit worried, at first, that the 'bad news' was going to be something about you. Good to see you're not letting the bad weather beat you. Have a Great Christmas !
Appreciate your vlogs a lot. All best wishes for this season and the new year. AND a million thanks for letting us know about Apetor. I've not heard of him before and now I have watched a few of his vids. Sad that he passed away. But his videos will live on for a while yet, and keep many people entertained. My inner slob lives in Australia and here it's summer: warm to hot, dry, dusty, thunder and lightning with heavy or little rain. Not at all a pleasant time to be out there. I guess, the inner slob can always come up with excuses. Best to ignore the slob. Set a plan to ride every day unless the weather really is too dangerous to be out there; and that won't happen too often.
Nice one. Just had a few rides in last few months. Got out today in the mizzle, grey, damp after a few days slobbing. Didn’t want to go out but pushed myself to go. Went out, loved it,did a few extra miles. Feel a whole lot better.
Thanks, buddy, and stay safe! I like your cycle video and recently bought a home exercise bike. I will start soon as my weight is 100 Kg and hopefully, year end could lose 5 to 8 Kg Deepest condolence to UA-cam Guru 🙏
Apt Freudian slip, I'm relatively fatter after the sherry trifle, cheese cake, party food nibble crap, a bit of booze, I don't drink the rest of the year. I'm at the no going back turning point, 14 weeks no cycling, from legs like motorway pillars to bread sticks. I went into the shed today to change my medium wheels with GP5000 on to winter wheels. Picked the bike up & thought "bloody hell that's heavy" Happy new year Leonard, here's to a long cycling recovery.
I have to celebrate the little victories; they're the only kind I have. Another beautiful video, Leonardo! You are so fortunate to have so many country lanes to ride! And they're so pretty, too! I enjoyed your heartfelt tribute to Apetor. It made me smile.
Another good video. Lovely climb from Rowlands Castle towards Horndean past all the expensive houses.. Merry Christmas, Leon and don't forget it's PEAK UP! wirh your cycling hats.. 👍
Like you said in an earlier video: be more Andy. Yesterday I rode and was blown around but I knew today would be very cold. Tomorrow looks like the best day and surf's up! Rollers are doing a great job keeping me outdoors! I visited my mother and ran errands on this cold day. Don't let a day pass.
I did that today too. Rode the bike back to work... I have been missing the enjoyment of the ride. I didn't even use the computer, just focused on the fact that it's still fun to ride.
Our winters in northern Canada were times I had to put the bike away. But this year I bought a fat bike for winter riding. What made a huge difference in comfort was a padded helmet with a sliding face visor to protect eyes and face. Airflow is good enough to prevent fogging while still keeping my head and face warm. I find it so much easier to get out in cold weather with that helmet. And the reflective orange coating cuts glare from the snow nicely so it’s easier to see the contours.
What a beautiful day for a ride! But those temperatures...I have lived in Florida too long. I usually can't bring myself to go out if it's below 10 degrees (that's 50 for us). The shorter days are a real challenge, too. Tomorrow it's supposed to get up into the low 20s (75F) so I'm looking forward to a Christmas ride and "silencing the slob." Merry Christmas from Tallahassee!
Great video. I would love to get out as well but we are down to -10 and snow, something I rarely see in Vancouver. Oh well, the rain will be back soon enough and I will be bitching about that. I will check out that YT'er. I am still in denial about Iohan (See the World) passing on last August. His and your vid's have been great inspiration for me. If you aren't familiar with his channel, episode 1 begins in the Tuktoyaktuk in the Arctic Circle on his quest to ride to Argentina. I can't recommend it enough.
We've had consistent rain here for months now, where it rains for nearly a week, and then the sun comes out for a couple of days back to more rain. The grass is soggy, the days are mostly miserable and I haven't been exercising on my bike as I used to. And to make it worse it's not even winter yet, living on the other side of the world our seasons are changed.
Good vid, Len. I did a rare ride today.... in the rain in SoCal. Me and one my cycling chums rode about 64KM. When your area doesn't get much rain, it's hard to predict. I check the weather before the ride, its said we had a 4-5 hr window before it starts. After 16KM out, it started raining. The weather man let me down! So it turn into a cold slog. Len, I know how you guys feel now about riding in rain. Ride on.
You have incredible insight into the human condition. I often feel like its just too hard to get back riding, but if i took you advice it would be easier
Thanks for a wonderful year of fun, informative videos. I wish you and your family a happy, healthy and prosperous new year. The weather is great here in Florida and the miles are just melting away. It’s easy to,get off my butt and go out in great weather. Merry Christmas and happy new year.
I've been watching most of your videos, and can say watching you pushes me to get out and on my trike. Here in Virginia, East Coast USA we are at the tail end of winter, but it doesn't want to leave. We've had cold, cold and wind, rain, snow which has made it really easy for me to stay inside. 🙄 But today is sunny, dry, light breeze, in the 60s (Fahrenheit). No more excuses. I found a biking app on my phone (Samsung Health) so I figured I'd give it a try. By default it was set to track distance, 5 miles. As I rode, it would give audible updates whenever I had gone another mile and would tell me how much farther I had to go and how long it should take. I thought it was pretty cool if totally simple. I had a great time! I even managed to make it to the five mile target by the time I got home. Thanks for your inspiration. Friday and maybe Saturday are also forecast to be sunny and warm then it's back to winter weather and maybe even a little snow.
Keep going you will get stronger as time goes on. Pain feels good when its good pain, pain that tells you that your body is getting stronger and more powerful.
Yep! It’s difficult when you get out of the routine of not going out on the bike and the easiest excuse this time of year is the weather!.when it’s not sensible to go out whether it’s ice,fog or heavy rain..I’m always motivated to get on the training rollers at least 3 times a week…have a great Christmas and new year👍🏻
You did great Leonard. One day at a time. Baby steps. Keep thinking how much better you feel when you’ve managed to stick with your plan. Write it down in a calendar as having completed it. Then schedule another ride and stick with it. Then report back. Ride safe snd ride often.
This is the best part of commuting. If you feel tired, don’t want to do anything, feeling a slob, you still have to get out and get to work on your bike. All weathers and temperatures. Like you say, once your out, your mood changes and it keeps you fit. 👍🙂🙂 300 miles a month of free exercise.
Wow, great cycling vlog as ever but additionally worth it for the introduction to Apetor, RIP. Bonkers isn’t the word! Your tribute was fitting, just so long as you didn’t actually have vodka in that bidon! Merry Christmas Leonardo.
Well done Leonard once you start contemplating going out or not, you will always convince your self not to until tomorrow but the circle starts all over again. Merry Christmas Leonard to you and your family.
Started 25% short hill reps(running)the weight(plenty) dropping off me very quick which increases my motivation no end to continue.I've did the bike in the past & really enjoyed it,just didn't feel it worked me anywhere near as hard as my wee hill reps,& therein my motivation to continue the bike waned as the physical progress was nowhere near as obvious, anyways, merry xmas & happy new year pal👍
My slob is as big as a house, first I felt sick due to COVID vaccine, then I caught a bad cold, not been on the bike for six weeks… Back to it tomorrow thanks to you.
Such a shame about Apetor, not surprised to be fair but sill very sad. The first time I saw him skating along pulled by a chainsaw I almost literally pissed myself 🤣
Nice one Leonard, filming and the lens effects look good :) it's always difficult this time of year to find the motivation and time to get rides in but you're doing great....as someone once said....be more Andy...just try and get out on the bike and it'll hopefully all click back into place! Merry Xmas mate, thanks for all the great vlogs
1 week. Hell, I've been off the bike for 6 months. I already know the butt pain ahead of me. Will be bike on the trainer in the new year to slowly get it back. The cold is not an issue. I've been renovating our rental property and it's taking up all of my spare time.
Well awesome video to finish off this year glad you getting out again yea I wanna do rides again other than work rides shame about the UA-camr my condolences was just saying to mom in think we got a ok winter this year mom says hi too!
I've just had a herina operation in the groan It will be three months till I can get back in the saddle I do miss riding From London West Hempstead All the best
good content as always....it is way too easy not to go out in winter,,,,I n my case I sold my car so I have to cycle to work every day and back....no choice.....doing something every day bacomes habit,,,andf believe it or not the cold becomes normal ....assuming proper clothing of course ...You are an inspiration for many
The ice cracked when Apetor skating. He was picked up from the ice cold water, but died at the Hospital. R.I.P. The winter here in Norway is hard, dark and cold. I took my bike with spikes on my tires out for a ride yesterday. I was happy to come home in one piece. The ice water melting down on the road and a Tesla and a Jaguar one meter behind my bike is a death trap. But on a nice winter day, riding a bike is an adventure.
Yeah, I haven't been on the bike since September (crash folded my wheel and sheared off my fork). I got the last part I needed yesterday to get it on the road again. Unfortunately it's -10C and there's a foot of snow on the ground, so I guess I'm relegated to the pain cave for a while.
To beat the inner slob I try to set purpose to a ride, like picking up something from the shop (10 miles or so away) or just visiting a friend for a coffee and a catch up. Getting out of the front door: it's not impossible, it's necessary. Merry Xmas :)
I wear a down jacket as an undergarment when it gets crazy cold. Works fine below freezing in the twenties and below F. No crime if you actually enjoy a ride either.
If I can't be faffed with the road bike and all the gear, I will try and do a short pootle on my town bike in the clothes I've got on. Better to get out for some fresh air than not at all. (helps when you've got a crisp clear day like that though!).
December with constant -10C up to -20C has ruined my appetit for cycling.. this winter will be long and hard. :/ And trying to find inner me to hop on trainer has been harder this than ever; thanks for Austrias crazy C-mandates.. no Alps for me so no goal for training. Yep, hard winter. :(
isn't it funny? i'd plan to ride on so and so day. then when the day comes, i start arguing with myself about going out and riding. i start trying to make excuses. i start to doubt myself and say "what's the point? why should i put myself to this pain and difficulties? but something happened within me that i continue to get dress and ride out of the driveway - and there's the answer right away. a big smile on my face as i feel the fresh air and see the neighbourhood.
The sun and no snow makes it look like a lovely day for December. So since the Norwegian fellow still lives, on UA-cam in video recording. I guess reports of his passing are sort of premature but not really.

The hardest part is just getting started. As you demonstrated, once you start moving it is easy to keep going. Love the new lens. Merry Christmas!
Top man!

4500 miles is an incredible result! Give yourself a pat on the back!
Leonard, you are an inspiration...seriously, I really appreciate your example
Thanks for another beautiful video Leonard. Honestly if I could ride in such a beautiful place I might hang up my running shoes.
Love your videos, big help for me as I’ve only been cycling a few months 🙏
Man, you nailed it…. The time and effort to kit up and still have cold hands is what demotivates me…. But, that said, the dry, clear skies are brilliant….
You captured some beautiful images from a lovely part of the Hampshire.

Merry Christmas from Oakland California to you and your family.
Great job Leonard. Merry Christmas from ON, Canada.
Merry Christmas Mr. Leonardmlee!!! You are always an inspiration.
I was a wee bit worried, at first, that the 'bad news' was going to be something about you. Good to see you're not letting the bad weather beat you. Have a Great Christmas !
I really like your videos.. Wish you the best of westher so you can continue cycling.
Many thanks for keeping it real Len. Happy 2022 mate.

I'm in South Australia myself, great to hear another ozzy, watching & commenting on this great channel 😀 👍
I have spent a few many days cycling when I didn't feel like it. Thanks for the video.
Always look forward to the vlog….one of the best….Christmas greetings to you and your family.
Nice one. Just had a few rides in last few months. Got out today in the mizzle, grey, damp after a few days slobbing. Didn’t want to go out but pushed myself to go. Went out, loved it,did a few extra miles. Feel a whole lot better.

Merry Christmas Leonard . Stay safe
Thanks, buddy,
and stay safe!
I like your cycle video and recently bought a home exercise bike. I will start soon as my weight is 100 Kg and hopefully, year end could lose 5 to 8 Kg

Apt Freudian slip, I'm relatively fatter after the sherry trifle, cheese cake, party food nibble crap, a bit of booze, I don't drink the rest of the year. So sad about apetor. I need to get back on the bike. Your drink out of the bottle near the end is priceless! Ahhhh! 👍
Well done, I have been in same situation. 9 days of the bike but managed to get out today
Thanks for all the great videos for 2021 and wish you and yours good luck in 2022.
That gravel bike of yours is clocking up some miles, perfect for the wet, dirty and debris covered winter roads. Well done for getting out 👍
I have to celebrate the little victories; they're the only kind I have.
Another beautiful video, Leonardo! You are so fortunate to have so many country lanes to ride! And they're so pretty, too!
I enjoyed your heartfelt tribute to Apetor. It made me smile.
Proud of ya Leonard. You’ve inspired me to head out so Thank You! Apetor reminds me of a Norwegian Rowan Atkinson. Very entertaining!
I continue to enjoy your videos! I wish you and your family a happy holiday season!!
Another good video. Lovely climb from Rowlands Castle towards Horndean past all the expensive houses.. Merry Christmas, Leon and don't forget it's PEAK UP! wirh your cycling hats.. 👍
Happy Xmas etc. Glad you got your thing back for biking. Looked a lovely ride out and all the better for seeing you enjoying it.

I will check out that YT'er. I am still in denial about Iohan (See the World) passing on last August. His and your vid's have been great inspiration for me. You have incredible insight into the human condition. I often feel like its just too hard to get back riding, but if i took you advice it would be easier
Great insperation. Keep going🚴🏻♂️👍😀 Merry X-Mass
I hear those 90 days calling Leonard. Oh, and Merry Christmas.
Thanks for a wonderful year of fun, informative videos. I wish you and your family a happy, healthy and prosperous new year. The weather is great here in Florida and the miles are just melting away. It’s easy to,get off my butt and go out in great weather. Merry Christmas and happy new year.
Have a great holiday Leonard. Always a pleasure sir.
Glad you enjoyed it.
Keep going you will get stronger as time goes on. Pain feels good when its good pain, pain that tells you that your body is getting stronger and more powerful.
Pain is just weakness leaving the body apparently.

This is the best part of commuting. If you feel tired, don’t want to do anything, feeling a slob, you still have to get out and get to work on your bike. All weathers and temperatures.
Like you say, once your out, your mood changes and it keeps you fit. 👍🙂🙂
300 miles a month of free exercise.
Nice ride. Merry Christmas 🎄❄😊👍🏻
Liked apetor ….a very unusual character.
Indeed - despite the 26 degree weather today I got out there.
Wow, great cycling vlog as ever but additionally worth it for the introduction to Apetor, RIP. Bonkers isn’t the word! Your tribute was fitting, just so long as you didn’t actually have vodka in that bidon! Merry Christmas Leonardo.
Looks a nice day best to try a little further when its dry
Well done Len 👏 Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year 👋
leonardmlee Sir, you are an inspiration and you can do it when you B&Q it! It's raining here but stuff it, I'm still going out for my bike ride👍
I used to do a lot of filming work for B&Q!
@@jollygoodvelo I didn't even know that! The B&Q line was just a gentle jibe😂😂 but hope you have had a great Christmas so far?
Merry Christmas Leonard! And to all the jolly good velos in this comment section!
Merry Xmas mate really enjoy watching your vlog. Keep up the great work
so many pretty camera shots
Looking forward to see your review on the Bryton 750 as I'm planning to get one
Have a cracking Christmas 👍🚴♂️
Well done Leonard once you start contemplating going out or not, you will always convince your self not to until tomorrow but the circle starts all over again. Merry Christmas Leonard to you and your family.
That is probably the most accurate description of the lack of motivation that I’ve heard. Merry Christmas
That's exactly where I'm at! Finding it really hard and inadvertently heaping more pressure on myself to do something only makes it worse!
Beautiful day in jolly old! Awesome apetor impression! No tub full of ice in the back garden then?✌️
I desperately need to find some motivation. Lost all work/life balance.

I did try and get you out the other day!!! Nice vid btw. Any snags with the Bryton give me a tinkle.
Oh yeah, I know how it is if ya miss some riding time, sorry to hear about your friend, I'll take a look at his vids.
Love the memorial, Leonard. I know how losing someone you admire (even if you only knew them via UA-cam) can really hurt. Cheers mate.
Fan of apetor here too. Find them funny and know what you mean.
Well awesome video to finish off this year glad you getting out again yea I wanna do rides again other than work rides shame about the UA-camr my condolences was just saying to mom in think we got a ok winter this year mom says hi too!
Hey John, yes the winter has been very mild this year. Merry Christmas to you and your mum.
I've just had a herina operation in the groan
It will be three months till I can get back in the saddle
I do miss riding
From London West Hempstead
All the best
Hope you are back on the bike soon.
You are a delite. Your friend is as well. Merry Christmas to you and your's.
good content as always....it is way too easy not to go out in winter,,,,I n my case I sold my car so I have to cycle to work every day and back....no choice.....doing something every day bacomes habit,,,andf believe it or not the cold becomes normal ....assuming proper clothing of course ...You are an inspiration for many
Too many Zwift rides lately and I'm really anxious to get outside tomorrow for a nice Christmas Eve club ride.
Great vid. Apetor certainly was potty. You gotta admire that in a person.
Oh no, not Apetor. 😔 Happy Holidays.
Four months since my last ride. Extremely hard to get back into it when you leave it that long.
Being more Andy.
The sun and no snow makes it look like a lovely day for December. So since the Norwegian fellow still lives, on UA-cam in video recording. I guess reports of his passing are sort of premature but not really.
