The discussion at my church which is a UUA church in Dorchester, MA that I brought up was that there are no local voting poles on reservations and how it effects the vote numbers. My church members agreed that this should be changed because our people have to far to travel to vote. This also goes for the Appalachia territories where our people live on the mountain areas.
I'm very curious about what outreach efforts, if any, the DNC is making to indigenous communities and individuals in NC. I lived there for twenty years; and, during my time at UNC-CH, I had American Indian friends, classmates, and students (from the Haliwa-Saponi, Catawba, Lumbee, Pee Dee, and Tsalagi/Cherokee nations). The chaos happening right now in the NC governor's race makes lowering the buriers for indigenous folks to access voting all the more important, because NC has become a genuine battle ground state (not to say that abolishing buriers to American Indian citizens' voting isn't crucial work at all times). Speaking as a White woman who cares about the lives of people from whom my ancestors stole land and rights, I thank every member of the ICT and Indig Media teams for y'all's dedication to producing and sharing such thought-provoking and wide-ranging journalism!
Anyone see that map, in shades of blue and red, showing how each county in Wisconsin voted for president in 2020? I say to the people of Menominee County - thank you, thank you, thank you!
Definitely get out and vote!
