The smart licensing is for 12.x and above. When you buy the license they are knowledge worker and common area devices but still show in the system the same way as you see in this video.

Great video. I just installed CUCM 12 and CUC 12 on VMWare ESXi in my home lab with 90 days demo license. I'm not associated with any company or partner. How does a poor lone home lab Cisco enthusiast go about licensing the above mentioned software? Seems I can't get any help anywhere and the folks at Cisco seem lost because they're used to talking to actual companies and enterprises looking to buy thousands of dollars in licenses. HELP!
Vic, you are kind of in luck. Deep inside the CUCM ordering guide there is in fact a Lab use license you can buy. It covers 20 CUWL licenses, 5 TP ROOM licenses as well as CER from what I see. The SKU? CM12.5-K9-LAB The cost? Well, LIST is $995. A little heavy but far less than buying licenses at productions commercial cost. You cannot upgrade or get SWSS on these licenses as the major downfall. I hope that helps!!
@@TheTechCatalyst one more question, I have 2 Cisco 8961 IP Phones also, do you know if this will cover those as well? Is that what CUWL licenses are for? Sorry, I'm fairly new with this. I really don't need the TP or CER for my set up.
Yep, CUWL licenses work for uses with up to 10 devices per user technically. Alternatively you can use one CUWL license per one device as well. I'll admit it can be a little confusing... Might have to do a video on that too to be honest... For older phones you do want to verify they are still supported on the version of CUCM in the release notes.
