I didn't know the old bailey is on former Newgate prison..wow imagine all those aristo Georgians been in there...always reminds me of plunket and McClain..if u not seen it,try it's about two highway men...based on real characters from back then...great film
Love this! I visited the museum of London last week and they had a similar cell set up that was also from the basement of an inn. The owners created the cells and the overcrowded debtors prison would pay them to house inmates! Considering its location I bet this is what the landlord was doing and probably made a pretty tidy profit from it too!

Its true shes good but i can always give some tips. I will be honest im jealous and aggravated but for the reason of her not getting into detail on some spots to much to list 😂. And this complaint is only because she has me addicted to want more horror history 💖💖💖💖💖scary no welcoming yes 😈🤘
It’s absolutely in the right area, they could be prison cells and at that time it was permitted for the condemned to have a last drink . I wouldn’t be to happy going down to the basement to change the barrels that’s for sure . Very informative again thank you so much .
My husband and I went into the Viaduct Tavern, back In 1995. It was a cold drizzly, gray, day in April. We were told the story of the prisoners awaiting execution in the cellar. It definitely had an interesting atmosphere. We love history, London was a sheer delight and a treasure trove, for us. The architecture, history, great people we got to meet and chat with will always be some of our great memories. Thank you for the interesting video, very well done.
Wow that was creepy! I would not be game enough to go down there at all. The little sound blip when Sinead started to go down the stairs to the cells was so creepy! I've heard that kinda thing on paranormal videos before. Freaky!
I used to be in a Paranormal Group, for a short time. I was asked to join the group as "The Logical One". The idea being that I would point out real world explanations to the over-excited group members. For example "Ooh do you feel that draft, that drop in temperature?" And I would point out the window that no longer had glass in it. I went with the group on three investigations before being kicked out of the group for being "The Negative One".
Unfortunately most paranormal groups are fake. They need to create activity for the camera in order to get views on UA-cam etc. 99% of all shows or footage I have seen can be debunked. People are gullible and will believe anything as they have a need to believe in the paranormal so logic is mostly ignored. These paranormal groups and shows takes advantage of that. This group obviously did not like the fact that you were unwilling to fake it...
Couldn’t sleep tonight and scrolling through UA-cam just found your channel. I’m addicted already I know I’ll be listening to this until daylight lol. Love history especially this type well done your storytelling is brilliant a lot of these stories I’ve never heard of.

Hi again, luv! Really cool you went to The Viaduct. And such a great surprise. The last I saw the pub was when Shane and Ryan from Buzzfeed Unsolved went there several years ago and filmed a ghost hunt. The Viaduct is a legend in all it's own, because of its history and location. And because it's retained the original interior. What we see today is what those long ago saw the same. I've always been interested in Newgate and the Bow Street Magistrates Office. (Thank you Lisa Kleypas!) I would love to see a video dedicated to both, because before modern law enforcement, they were the foundation of law and order in London. It's so devastating how much old Victorian history has been lost, like the debtor's prison you show here, and the loss of Newgate. I can't thank you enough for this video. (I'm typing this as I'm watching on my tv!) All of the tour videos are so wonderful; so incredibly informative and the visuals of London are stunning... but these videos about the darker side of London's history are just irresistible. London has the most fascinating history of any city in the world. I love, love, love it. ❤🇬🇧❤ And I can't thank you enough for bringing it to us, all around the world. Thank you, Sinead. 🙂

I love all the Free Tours By Foot videos, ESPECIALLY the London ones! I plan to visit London maybe in 2022 or sooner, and when I do, I'm booking Free Tours By Foot!
The cellars remind me a bit of the old Shanghai Tunnels we have here in Portland, Oregon, USA. Trap doors in bars would drop drinkers (some said to be drugged via their drink) into the tunnels below to be sold as basically forced labor on ships. You can tour them and see things like the room of shoes (victims would have their shoes removed and broken glass covered the floor so an escapee could be easily found), underground brothels and opium dens. Later, the tunnels were used by the infamous Prohibition Rose, who legend says ran an illegal alcohol distribution center out of them. There’s an interesting documentary on them, not sure if it’s on UA-cam or not. I wouldn’t be surprised if the cellars here were also used for drugs and/or prostitution at some point during its long history. Or perhaps they were also used as “overflow” for the prisons, or for holding the sort of prisoners that would get witness protection nowadays. In any event, it was so lovely to see! I’ve read about the Gin Craze of the 18th century and the various gin palaces before, and it’s a fascinating bit of history. At its peak, the problem with gin was just as bad as the crack epidemic in the 1980’s. Bars would even sell the rags they wiped the counters with to poor addicts to suck on. Men, women and even children were all addicted (as fans of Sweeney Todd might well know). There’s a painting by William Hogarth called “Gin Lane” that shows a glimpse of life during the Craze. I just love your tours! We were in Europe a few years ago and miss it very much. Watching your channel has helped fill the void 😆 we were on a tour in Connecticut this weekend at an old prison mine in the 1700s called the Old-New Gate, after the prison in England called the New Gate. Thought it to be coincidental since you mentioned it in your video but also very interesting.
I hope you will be making out more videos,this one was incredible,the viaduct passage from old baily to Newgate prison ,I have ever heard was of a unique kind,never before I have ever heard it ,this the first time I going to hear about it,and the haunted pub is not only dreary but it had its own features and air to go in and sit around in a corner of the pub,I think if one lands in London ,he should not miss the sight of that pube.

I'm first generation American born in USA on my dad's side. Dad being born and bred in Scotland. 2nd generation on mom's side. Moms parents are born and bred in Ireland so I'm od British descent. I've been to Scotland many times to keep up with family and I absolutely love British history including the scary stuff like this. I find Jack the Ripper quite fascinating. London is a place where you can see something and not realize that two steps away is some other amazing site. I was at Smithfield Market never realizing that 10 steps away was thus awesome gin Palace, the church and site of Newgate prison. Can’t get tired of London because it’s loaded with things to see.

I love all the Free Tours By Foot videos, ESPECIALLY the London ones! I plan to visit London maybe in 2022 or sooner, and when I do, I'm booking Free Tours By Foot!

The cellars remind me a bit of the old Shanghai Tunnels we have here in Portland, Oregon, USA. Trap doors in bars would drop drinkers (some said to be drugged via their drink) into the tunnels below to be sold as basically forced labor on ships. You can tour them and see things like the room of shoes (victims would have their shoes removed and broken glass covered the floor so an escapee could be easily found), underground brothels and opium dens. Later, the tunnels were used by the infamous Prohibition Rose, who legend says ran an illegal alcohol distribution center out of them. There’s an interesting documentary on them, not sure if it’s on UA-cam or not. I wouldn’t be surprised if the cellars here were also used for drugs and/or prostitution at some point during its long history. Or perhaps they were also used as “overflow” for the prisons, or for holding the sort of prisoners that would get witness protection nowadays.
In any event, it was so lovely to see! I’ve read about the Gin Craze of the 18th century and the various gin palaces before, and it’s a fascinating bit of history. At its peak, the problem with gin was just as bad as the crack epidemic in the 1980’s. Bars would even sell the rags they wiped the counters with to poor addicts to suck on. Men, women and even children were all addicted (as fans of Sweeney Todd might well know). There’s a painting by William Hogarth called “Gin Lane” that shows a glimpse of life during the Craze.

The gin palace in the old Kent Rd was and still is a beautiful looking pub ,my grandad ,uncle's and my dad and myself have all enjoyed the gin palace over years and years ...p s I love this channel it's brilliant,bravo big pat on the back is in order so watch out lol

I just love your tours! We were in Europe a few years ago and miss it very much. Watching your channel has helped fill the void 😆 we were on a tour in Connecticut this weekend at an old prison mine in the 1700s called the Old-New Gate, after the prison in England called the New Gate. Thought it to be coincidental since you mentioned it in your video but also very interesting.

I hope you will be making out more videos,this one was incredible,the viaduct passage from old baily to Newgate prison ,I have ever heard was of a unique kind,never before I have ever heard it ,this the first time I going to hear about it,and the haunted pub is not only dreary but it had its own features and air to go in and sit around in a corner of the pub,I think if one lands in London ,he should not miss the sight of that pube.

I'm first generation American born in USA on my dad's side. Dad being born and bred in Scotland. 2nd generation on mom's side. Moms parents are born and bred in Ireland so I'm od British descent. I've been to Scotland many times to keep up with family and I absolutely love British history including the scary stuff like this. I find Jack the Ripper quite fascinating. London is a place where you can see something and not realize that two steps away is some other amazing site. I was at Smithfield Market never realizing that 10 steps away was thus awesome gin
