@Michael Jagger the script originally meant for Mickey’s absence to be a red herring. HE was supposed to be tied up by the fraternity and stabbed to death by two Ghostfaces after the car crash scene. The script was rewritten when fans leaked the majority online. Picturing Mickey as trying to protect Sidney in his final moments is definitely a contrast, but would show that in the end, he was really Sidney’s only friend besides Randy. Hallie and Derek would be the ones trying to murder Sid, with Mrs. Loomis taking part in nearly nothing, until the end when she betrays and murders them both.
This scene makes me realise how evil Mickey was, that he can pretend to be a nice guy and applaud something so romantic and sweet when all the time he wanted to kill them :(
I just love this guy. Probably my favorite ghostface. I think he his honestly moved by Derek's performance and genuinly likes him. But he's got his big trial project to do so his friends have to die for him to become what he his supposed to be.
Fun fact: Sydney wears the necklace he gave her in the third film and in the fourth, you catch a glimpse of it on her dresser. Sydney never truly forgot about him.
I love how he says that his letters are "good luck and will protect her" because later when she is attacked she takes off the necklace and uses it to hurt the killer in the face. And I love how in Scream 3 she still wears his letters around her neck all the time.
what's the music playing after Derek's song to Sydney ended ? there's some instrumental music when derek places a cross in Sidney's neck and kiss her. what's this music ?
I'll never understand this scene being hated, it shows how much Derek is likeable and was supposed to be the boyfriend & future husband for Sidney, made her smile, and gave her a necklace she'd wear later in the series.
Well probably because it's annoying as hell, and fails to make him likeable. When he died, I just thought "oh, thank fuck" specifically because of this scene
Hats off to Jerry O'Connell for this performance. In all fairness, he appears as someone who would find this sort of acting easy, but the scene still stands out to this day. In fact, it's precisely this scene amongst a few other scenes that defines Scream 2 as a true sequel of creativity. Scream will always have the more emotional story, less interested in the slasher aspect, but Scream 2 will always be better at said slasher aspect: and yet Scream 2 still has scenes like this to elevate itself. Most importantly, this is a necessary moment as it makes Derek into a sympathetic character, helping to make his own death in the theatre more poignant. Also hats off to Timothy Olyphant, for the humour he brings to the singing.

this scene was so nice
i love mickey's silly little dance 😭
After this scene I kept singing this song everyday at school when I was kid. All classmates knew where I got it from Scream 2
who would have thought this was the actor who played vern the fat kid in stand by me
"Sure, always make fun of the fat kid"
