    In 2030, Brandon "Melter of Icecaps" Ewing not only saved our nation's farms, but also led us back to manifest destiny, when we conquered Canada and secured America lake water for generations.

      Lmao implying we adopted all of canadas citizens and will still need to supply them with water? Or we blitzed Canada altogether?
      Eta: canada has more lakes than anywhere else in the world. I went to the quetico, which is part of a land called "the land of 10,000 lakes" but really it's more like... 5,000. So I've heard anyway. We covered 150 miles on foot and canoe and saw probably 6 or 7 different lakes, a tall waterfall, mountains, cliffs, it's an incredible place. I'd like to move to a more... glamorized area near it later in life, maybe minnesota.

    Hey Big A, I'm an environmental scientist and just wanted to add my two cents. The first 80% of the video was mostly this guy sharing facts about our current environmental issues, all of which I saw and learned about while I was in school. Btw you were right, almonds require an insane amount of water, and growing them out in the desert is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen.
    The last 20% of the guy's video was mostly just conjecture. He could be right, he could be wrong, but I wouldn't categorize any of those statements as fact.
    Personally, I do believe that there will be a lot of future conflicts about water resources, but I think the more important consequence of climate change is refugees. The Syrian refugee crisis was caused by 1 million people, and destabilized Europe for years. 1.2 billion people live in Africa alone, and as land becomes uninhabitable due to lack of/inconsistent water availability, those people will leave, and they're going to have to go somewhere.
    My personal conjecture is that poor people will continue to suffer and the rich will make it through alright. But looking though history, that's not exactly a bold claim

    • @BlepSSBU
      @BlepSSBU 2 роки тому +35

      Btw I don't think your ice cap theory would work bc you'd have to dig up the farm to get the ice under it, killing the plants. But with g-fuel in the ocean I think you're really on to something. Write your congressman

    • @SoaringSalamanders
      @SoaringSalamanders 2 роки тому +19

      It is just conjecture, but it is conjecture based on the past 200 years of colonialism and imperial powers exploiting poor countries, which is undeniably still happening. In fact, the US has started more wars in the past 30 years than the rest of its history combined. Technically they're legally not wars, because wars must be declared by congress and the last time they did that was WW2, but they're wars in everything but name.
      So unless the US changes literally everything about how it's been run overnight it is pretty much fact that water wars will happen.

      The reason for the end being heavily opinionated is the dude who made the video is like a super hardcore Socialist. Like identifies as such, so like the video is like a part of his larger political goals. I've seen the dude before and while he generally has good information he is very heavily biased and doesn't typically present his videos in that way.

    the water per cow stat is apparently highly contended, depending on methodology studies say anything between 40 liters and 15000 liters per kilo. The large figure also includes stuff like groundwater usage by plants, as opposed to drinking water given to the cows directly or water used in crop irrigation.
    Also Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt probably have the greatest conflict potential over water right now, Ethiopia is building a massive dam and in order to fill it up they need to reduce the water flow into the nile, which Sudan and Egypt further downstream *really* dont like.

    Take the drinkable water and use it to dilute salt water to a level our bodies can tolerate, thus increasing the amount of available water. Or dig channels in the desert and then connect them to canals out to sea so that the sea water flows into the drought-prone areas and evaporates, increasing the localized atmosphere moisture in those areas and induces rainfall more often.

    I saw an interesting counterpoint on specifically the beef industry fact, while it is technically true a swimming pools worth of water is used in a cows lifetime, most of it is used for the crops they eat, And most of those are grains leftover from crops that are inedible by humans (atleast in the UK and Ireland, can't attest to every country), this "swimming pool" worth of water is rainwater and is completely sustainable when done in a seasonal cycle. While this has its own issues, it's not a massive contributor for the water issue in a lot of countries.
    The water issue and where it comes from completely depends on the nation and the nature of the water supply, for example India is gaining this problem because of an array of factors, with agriculture being more present of an issue than somewhere like the UK.
    There absolutely is a water issue and it is absolutely worsening, but if everyone went vegetarian overnight the issue wouldn't go away

    • @thebuzz567
      @thebuzz567 2 роки тому +4

      Just gonna slide in here with some corrections (this is actually an issue quite important to me).
      So, you're half right about the grain thing. The water is used for crops, not to just feed the cow obviously, but the crop spread used in agriculture (I'm talking in the UK which is my home, but I'm gonna make the safe assumption this is the same in the US) is very heavy on grain which is super inefficient for growing crops because its what they feed cows with. If suddenly every meat and dairy company (side note, it wouldn't be enough for everyone to go veg, cause they'll still keep the same amount of cows for milk) just shut down, the farmers would pivot to more in demand crops that have much higher yield and would massively reduce water usage. For the water crisis specifically, the amount that the meat and dairy industry uses is fucking staggering.
      For solutions, since I'm not stupid, I know it would be impossible to have the planet go vegan overnight (though, if the subject interests you, I'm down to talk more about it, it's rare I get to talk about my veganism in a positive atmosphere that isn't gonna resort to people angrily replying "well I'm gonna eat double the meat to cancel you out"). What has to be done is a massive overhaul of the meat industry, and to slowly phase out and tax it more, while reducing the influence lobbying companies have.
      Finally, and this most important, we need to finally do what's needed to be done for a while, but people are too scared to admit it. We need to elect heads of states who are made from pure Oat milk! That's right, an Oat Milk Prime Minister, and Oat Milk President. Looks like the Queens kicked the bucket so replacing her with King Oat Milk sounds like a good start

    I've been a vegan for almost 5 years, so this video is super validating to me. Finally someone said what needs to be said, and I don't care if you think I'm "preachy" but it needs to be said, I don't care how contriversal it is:
