Adapted by Maximianno Cobra, from Shakespeare's "Timon of Athens", the film exposes the timeless challenge of social hypocrisy, disillusion and annihilation against the poetics of friendship, love, and beauty.
Daneman is once again brilliant as Richard of Gloucester, especially in V. vi, 61-94, where he soliloquizes over the dead King Henry. Also praise for the makeup artist in this scene, whose treatment of Terry Scully (whoae performance as Henry VI is outstanding) makes him look weather-beaten & ready for death. Also, Mary Morris is fantastic as "the she-wolf of France": Mean. Vicious. Vindictive & self seeking. She plays of Daneman perfectly. Looking forward to the Richard III episodes & then going back to pick up the earlier plays, Richard II, Henry IV and Henry V. Bravi to the Shakespeare network ! When i started to study Shakespeare at university some 40 years ago, these were performances i could only read about. Now i can see these before my eyes, instead of only in my wildest dreams. Thanks again !!!!
I simply cannot restrain myself from commenting on the brilliant performances of Mary Morris and Paul Daneman. I have seen other Queen Margarets (usually as part of a performance of Richard III) but never one so powerful and true to character. Watch how she totally controls a scene with her eyes; and when Daneman looks directly into the camera and talks to his audience. ! Absolutely amazing acting. This is my second viewing. Dont be surprised if i send more comments after my third. Bravo to all involved. And once again to the Shakespeare Network: thanks yall. 😊
