I definitely get your fear about the death of ARMS coming from other titles like Custom Robo and F-Zero, but I think there's another argument that comes from those same series. Each one had multiple titles before going AWOL, and only in rare cases has Nintendo pulled the one and done on an IP, so I feel comfortable saying that an ARMS sequel is more likely to happen eventually than not. It might be optimistic for me to say so, but the idea that Nintendo pulls a Square Enix in this case doesn't fit their modus operandi to me.
Oh ARMS my first real love. The nintendo switch was my first console and ARMS was my first game on it. Now 6-5 years later i miss the days when i would dream about this game and play it with my friends. The game has a charm to it that will never let me go. It has a spring shaped place in my heart I will be sad that it just might have fallen in the same pit as F-zero.
Let’s go!! Had no idea you were cooking up a video on this topic. This isn’t the first (or the last, let’s be real) time this discussion has been kicked up in your general circle, and there’s no easy answer, especially on my end where I love both. I’m going to eat up whatever EPD9 releases next, but I would UNDOUBTEDLY be more surprised and excited for ARMS 2. Why do we always gravitate to the underdog games instead of choosing to eat? Will we ever get an ARMS sequel? Does Min Min know how to make anything besides ramen noodles? Find out on the next thrilling episode of A Talking Sock!!
Nice video. I would like to note some things as someone who actually plays Mario Kart Tour: that game had a RIDICULOUS amount of content and continues to get new stuff every two weeks. (I'm talking at least 1-2 new tracks, along with four total variations of every track introduced, plus new characters or costumes, karts and gliders, events, and more) So I do think it takes up more resources than you lead on, but at the same time they have to also be working on some new console title as well. Also worth noting that every single track from the Booster Course Pass is from Tour so that probably doesn't matter as much. Even the Yoshi's Island track is originally from Tour as it was datamined years ago, it's just a weird situation where it came to 8 first and doesn't come to Tour until next month. A lot of Tour tracks have unique elements that don't even end up getting programmed into the 8 versions at all, so it's clear it's a very minimal effort that probably isn't taking much away from their next game on console, although I do kinda feel ARMS 2 is unlikely at this point. (I hope to be wrong though, I also love ARMS!)
I've been waiting for a video like this! Happy to hear you gush over Arms, and honestly, even as someone who prefers MK, I am MUCH more in desire of a new ARMS/F-Zero Game over a new Mario Kart
ARMS is Nintendos most underrated 1st Party ever on the Switch I always referred to it as Nintendos Overwatch. ARMS could definitely use a Sequel with a Amazing Story Mode,More Single Player Options,More Characters The Annoucer should be a character,More ARM Variants, and just more improvements.
Really good video! I'm still expecting a sequel to happen myself, at this point probably the next console sometime after MK9. You made compelling points and hand sock is bean. Much love much enjoy :3
@@ATalkingSock What was your favorite's Arms made of? (If you don't mind, me asking.) My main one had Fulu Talisman Arms. Kinda edgy, but I had fun thinking him up. He was called Kanji.
I feel like they were pretty commonly discussed on youtube back when n64 nostalgia was the big thing. I bet dollars to donuts Antdude and Nitrorad have covered them!
Just found your channel the other day through your Excitebots video, and I love your videos! I got ARMS when it came out, and enjoyed it, but didn't get too into it. This video definitely made me want to give it another shot though. I think it's a shame that Nintendo has dropped their other racing series especially in favor of Mario Kart, since they're all great and have different appeals. I love arcade racers in general, including Mario Kart, but I would also love a new F-Zero, or something new in the Excite series, but I definitely wouldn't get my hopes up for any of those. ARMS definitely deserves another shot though, hopefully we'll get a sequel some day, as with a lot of Nintendo's other dead series
I feel like the next game EPD 9 will make, is a Nintendo/Smash Kart, and continue support on Mario Kart 8, by making a new booster course pass, and just adding more content, Supporting 2 Kart games at once is possible, and that would please both the people that want a Kart Racing Crossover, and the Mario Kart fans that want it to be focused on Mario only. as for Arms, who knows, maybe if the Nintendo/Smash Kart actually happens, it could have Arms characters and Arms themed tracks, it's better than nothing i guess.
Make a DK kart that works like Overwatch payload missions. The goal is to even get to the goal while a buncha monkeys is ruining your ride. And were I to go wild, I would "predict" that Nintendo's upcoming home console revives Mii's but thay are ALL based on Kong characters as a base. So these would be custom characters that also are your avatars. All the eShops wuld be run by kitsune and tanuki characters like Tom Nook or... Arcade Bunny? Is that his real name? My old idea on F-Zero IP would be that occasionally, on a loose schedule, Nintendo makes these Kamen Rider -type community-created characters INTO their new Smash reveal characters, by officiating common cult combinations of custom characters with their own CG trailer, so that could also work. Basically, it works like Smash level creator but everyone HAS to make the same "level" by hand, like you would eyeball a Mii to make the same witohut the QR code. And these would all fall into a networked poll, where ones that are poplar would be picked as official, DArk Link, Dark Pit type of character who is impersonating "your" character - of course, in practice it would actually be ALL the people who'se "own" character looks close enough. Right now I'm hoping Switch Home will basically be amrketed as a DK Console while Switch remains the Mario console, and kinda like the VMU to this home console.
This...definitely puts into words why some of my other buddies gave me a reputation as that "guy who despises the kart racer genre." But it's not kart racing I have an issue with. Just Mario Kart (and maybe the Super Mario series), because it really feels like it *gets in the way* of more interesting projects on Nintendo's side.
On top of that, they announced last year that they're pouring excess earnings into more software development. So hopefully more teams and resources become available to make more stuff!
I LOVE ARMS!! Hell I still play it competitively and run a team! (6 years going strong!!) And I can get behind a lot of your points, don’t get me wrong I like Mario kart sure. But the charm and character ARMS has while being a colourful and unique take on a standard fighting game is much more engaging imo. Was definitely heartbreaking however to see the graphic novel get cancelled after waiting patiently for so long.
The Switch 2 would be a spectacular opportunity for an Arms sequel. One that carries over the style, art, music, lore, and charm from the first but adds more content, improves gameplay, and overall, fixes all the issues players had with the first game. It deserves another chance. Please make it happen, Nintendo!
Although I don't care about Arms, you are right! 100%! You adressed the "Playing save Nintendo" part and I couldn't agree more! And you also put F-Zero here for good measure! That's always a plus more me!
Oh how I've missed your extended tangents and gushing over niche games... I think you've made it clear that you are ARMS' and Custom Robo's strongest soldier and have honestly piqued my interest about both of them, but it kinda sounds like you're taking out your frustration onto Mario Kart a little bit.
10:30 I'm confused, are you saying you think the Yoshi's Island track was pulled from a hypothetical future Mario Kart 9? This is clearly not true, the course was clearly originally made for Tour, just brought to 8DX a few weeks early (same thing with Sky-High Sundae). We can actually confirm that Yoshi's Island was definitely a Tour original track thanks to datamines that the Tour community has known about for several months before the track was announced
What he's saying is that the Yoshi's Island course has enough detail and effort in it that it will most likely show up again in the next Mario Kart, and that if they're putting that much effort into new tracks, it's unlikely they're working on anything else.
Arms hurts my biceps after using the joycons to rapid punch the hell out of the opponent. It killed the feel when I had to use the controller... They shilled it for smash and even then the character was boring
@@ATalkingSock to me the game HURTS to play. I won't say it didn't have creativity because it's there... Just kinda wished it had more.... something for me, maybe a community for it anything
@HakuZaku well yeah, but you can use buttons and sticks. That's what I use! I've probably only used motion controls like 4 times and I've logged nearly 600 hours into the game lol
Even though I still enjoy Mario Kart as a spin-off series with the things they've made in them growing up on mostly the console versions (and I arguably say that Mario Kart 8 is one of the best MK titles ever next to Double Dash! in terms of almost everything but the roster which thankfully the DLC is slowly improving on with 6 returning additions). Though I also have been feeling a bit conflicted on it since ARMS came into light during the Switch's launch which I've deeply admired this new IP that it was that clearly showed a lot of passion and care in the lore, potential world-building, and ESPECIALLY the designs of the characters that truly embraced their culture on the fighting sport. The potential in ARMS is right there and can be greatly expanded upon if they put much the contents people we're mostly hoping on originally. More than anything, I'd be very excited and a bit emotional if a sequel to ARMS actually came true after more than 5 years (kinda like how I was with the ARMS character inclusion in Smash).
Heck, with Nintendo even potentially diving into developing Movies/TV content in the future (with the Mario Movie being their starting point). An ARMS anime and/or feature film (especially if the latter draws a more Spider-Verse/Puss in Boots: The Last Wish 3D/2D influence that's heavily inspired from the game's illustration works. Kinda like with what Smash Ultimate attempted for the Min Min trailer). Not only they could use that as an alternative point to diving deep into the game's lore and world-building, but would sorta help gain traction by being implemented into one of the most recognizable/important forms of media and kinda helped on some of Nintendo's IP in the past to an extent like Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, especially Pokemon, Kirby, Animal Crossing (with the OVA), even F-ZERO to an extent when the series was still thriving for awhile back in the early 2000's (though it wasn't as big unfortunately).
ARMS deserves another chance. Just... don't release it three weeks before Splatoon 4 or something, because that's what I feel went wrong with ARMS; getting released three weeks before Splatoon 2.
I feel like people wouldn't even view them as direct competitors if the ARMS Direct didn't end with a bombshell Splatoon 2 reveal. Suddenly, all anyone in the Nintendo community would talk about was how much more they wanted Splatoon as opposed to ARMS!
When Switch first came out I remember reading something where Nintendo said they wanted the switch to last at least ten years In 2022 furikawa said Switch is just in the middle of its lifecycle and the momentum going into this year is good.
