I know you’ve seen this episode weeks ago because of your upload schedule, but I feel like commenting anyways lol.
During this episode, it’s been 9 years since the fall of shinganshina, 4 years since the battle to retake shinganshina, and 3 years since the ocean scene. Hopefully that clears up the timeline.
Reiner does not agree with how Marley treats Eldians. As you quickly pointed out in season 2, Reiner and Berthold felt remorse for what they did upon realizing that the people of Paradis were not devils, just people. Reiner even developed a split personality to try and cope with the immense guilt. It’s important to remember that the Warriors’ families are granted titles of Honorary Marleyans (from Grisha’s backstory) and that implies that if any Warrior conspicuously defies the military, their families will be shipped to paradise and they will get eaten by a more obedient warrior candidate. Also, I can definitely understand Gabi being dislikeable. However, I was a bit surprised with your lack of sympathy for her brainwashing. I remember in season 3 you instantly disliked Rod (aka the manipulator/brainwasher) for gaslighting Historia and even mentioned Freida’s preaching (to child Historia) ‘to act in a way to be loved by everyone’ was a bit brainwashy. Take into account when Commander Maggath initially denies Gabi’s request, “Hell no, how much do you think Marley has spent training you all these years?” Implies that she’s been indoctrinated and trained since being a very young child. While there are different personalities and levels of awareness in children (resulting in various degrees of brainwashing),
it’s no wonder that children like Gabi exist given Marley’s terribly thorough brainwashing/propaganda. I think it’s a bit harsh to call brainwashed people like her stupid when that’s all they’ve really been exposed to. But I do agree it is unpleasant to see

26:11 It's been 4 years since Season 3: The defeat of Zeke's mission in Shiganshina. It's been 9 years since the Operation to Recover the Founding Titan, the time Marley sent Bertholdt, Reiner, Annie and Marcel to Paradis. They lurked as refugees for 2 years, then spent 3 years as recruits.
I was not expecting Season 4 reactions to start, I thought you were going to finish the remaining OVAs... 😅

17:32 Yeah, I really really disliked Gabi for a long time and then hated her. A lot of Gabi simps claim that she's just like Eren, but she's not like Eren at all. Eren hated Titans because one ate his mom. Gabi hated the Paradis Eldians for no reason. Even the brain washing doesn't excuse it. I mean, she (and most other Marley Eldians) think that the Paradis Eldians are spawn of the devil just because their king took them to the island. But Marley Eldians and Paradis Eldians have the same ancestors. And just like you said, those Eldians didn't do anything wrong. At worst, it's the king's fault, not the citizens' fault. But Gabi keeps saying "Your ancestors...your ancestors."
This makes total sense, I agree with you

Indoctrination is not the same as stupidity. These people have been raised their whole lives to think a certain way. It goes beyond intelligence when your whole world is built around certain 'truths' that are unquestionable in their society.
I use the word stupidity because English is not my native tongue , I wasn't referring to their intelligence, obviously.... I don't know which other word I could use to express what I meant, but most of the people understood with the whole context 😀
