Honda has expanded its Mini-Moto lineup with the release of the 2019 Honda Super Cub C125. The Super Cub has been for sale worldwide since 1958, but the United States hasn't been so lucky, missing the little moto scoot since the 1970s. For 2019, Honda refreshed the bike, through in a 125cc Grom engine, and the Super Cub C125 was born. Is it worth your money?

It was originally made with a heel-shifter so businessmen in Japan could ride to work without scuffing their shoes.
jk632 jk632 no business man ride this thing. This is for delivery man to grab a food container on left hand and ride with it. In Asia, at least Korea and Japan and China, like 10 years ago, many food delivery man rode bike like that. They usually ride in town (packed narrow Asian town), so they rarely go over 30mph which made it possible to ride bike with giant food container on left hand and throttle on right hand.
@@user-pu1iu7sc3y Businessmen probably don't ride them today, but they did in the 1950s. Honda execs said the heel-shifter was used so businessmen wouldn't scuff their shoes 🤷♂️
jk632 jk632 well IDK maybe they advertise it like that in America market to raise the value of Super Cub?
Actually the original shifting pattern is front N-1-2-3-4 and the heel shifter is for downshift. I don't know why the US market reverse the shifting pattern
If you want Honda Street Cub build.. i have video :)
The super cub is actually the number 1 best selling vehicle ever made, so I found it funny when he’s questioning who is buy them.
Avery Eggart right lol. Our dealer ship literally can’t keep them in stock.
who....bigger #s than your calculator.. buys them.. Absolutely Avery!
But why tho ? What's so special about them ? I was researching the Honda Monkey and came across the Super Cub. Guess I need to test drive both.
@@obijuankenobi6565 they have been produced since 1958, designed to be an every man's vehicle, like the VW beetle. It was cheap, reliable, and mass producible. its just a comfortable easy to operate bike. it appealed to the needs of the market better and most other bikes at the time, big wheels for roads in bad condition, step through frame for a wide demographic of people, heel toe shifter to not damage shoe's and a clutch-less bike that could be operated by one hand for delivery driver. The bike is a honestly a snapshot of the past.
@@avartx Awesome great response. Think I'm gonna focus on the monkey. I wanna hit the trails as well as the street.
brad : it's weird its weird
whole Asia: its normal.
hahahah
kindajal That’s very true man. Most of the motorcycles here in Asia has this kind of transmission. 😂
Oh man, i want to say the same, in asia we have this kind of bike everywhere
it's actually weird to not have a heel shifter here in southeast asia lol
It always amazes me when I hear a younger person review a retro machine like this - like it is something completely new which I suppose it is to you. I was riding these in the seventies. Then you could get a 50cc version or a 90cc version. It is a remake (much updated of course) style-wise of the old bike which sold millions. Its a love it or hate it thing. It offers some weather protection as does a Vespa or Lambretta but is a hell of a lot safer with those motor cycle size wheels but....it does lack street cred for the younger biker. It appeals to me and I am a biker allbeit an "old" biker. When I can no longer handle my Triumph Bonneville Maybe I'll get one of these.
They were the best back then had about 7 of them in my youth were bullet proof and ultra reliable just usually abused 😂😂😂
If I was 16 years old I would buy one just to commute to school and work. Super cheap and gas mileage is probably amazing. Low insurance too so it's a win all around.
You gonna be amazed what this little thing can do. It's around 70 km/Litre and the Super Cub 50 is 100 km/Litre
the 50cc and 90cc original Cub would do around 100/120mpg in regular use
In southeast Asia you can pick up a 110-125cc motorcycle based off this platform (Honda wave, dream, and a couple other offshoots) for $200. The older ones get around 60-70km/l. I fill mine up like every 3 weeks with daily use lol.
I bought a Monkey. My first ever bike and I’m 47. I live in a coastal town in England and I just wanted something to cruise around on for fun. I don’t need or want anything big or fast. Everyone kept telling me to buy a Honda, including my wife who has a Shadow. When I saw the Monkey I just had to have one. I think Honda are nailing it with their small bikes. The Grom likely appeals more to the youngsters, but for those of us that are older and fancy a bit of retro the Super Cub and Monkey are there. Great stuff.
Thats cool man, im saving cash for a monkey for my first bike, but the honda trail is tempting, but i want to learn a clutch in case i get hooked, funniest thing i heard, the younger crowd likes grom, older crowd likes monkeys, just remember....every grom you see on the street is financed, every monkey you see on the street is paid for
I've used a heel shifter for the last 12 years. You get used to it fast. I like everything about this bike. Yeah, this is actually the biggest selling class of bike in the world. The U.S. really has very small share of Honda's total sales.
That’s that south east Asia bike, everyone in Philippines got something like this #HondaDream
i also have c70 build... im from Ph
Ung nanay ko yan service sikat ng 90’s tawag sa amin body 70.
Honda wave life. I prefer the shifter on the SEA version of this transmission. Press down on your toe to shift up, down on your heel to shift down.
You don’t understand how happy I got when I seen this notification!
100 million have been sold. Supercub 60th Anniversary (1958-2018) the number #1 most ultimate motorcycle on the planet
My love of motorcycles began when I was 12 years old riding one of these on vacation in Jamaica with my Dad.
Yesss! I love the old ones, curious about this one for sure.
I think having one of these just for in and out to town and stuff would actually be great fun! Nice video Moto sir - also i think the design is absolutely class on it, they're just cool.
Im not gunna lie man. I literally thought you were C2W for the wholleee video until the last part. Damn.
I thought I the only one noticed that
what is C2W?
I have Harley-Davidson Road King and a Honda XR650L and a super cub, I love the super cub!
Bret, the way a semi-automatic motorcycle transmission works is when you first start to put pressure on it, that disengages the clutch and then once you pull it up all the way, that clicks it into another gear. Same for downshifting as well. That's why it feels just like a regular transmission because it is one. Just moved the clutch from the handlebar to the shift lever.
This is a great little commuter/fun bike and is the best selling internal combustion motor powered vehicle ever in human history.
When I used to live in the Philippines, we had one of these bikes, pretty much exactly the same, same shifting, brake pedal but it was from like the 90s I think, it was also beat up but it was one of my favourite times riding a motor vehicle.
I've never ridden a bike with a clutch, hopefully in the future.
I bought a new Super Cub a few months back. A great bike for around town. I owned a step thru when I lived in Laos. I'm a huge step thru fan.
Well in my country (Greece) ,and some other countries like Thailand or Vietnam ,these mopeds are being used a lot specially from new drivers , their are pretty cool
Στρογγυλο φορεβερ
I had a locally made step thru when I lived in Laos. I covered 32,000klms in eight years and rode the wheels off it. It never let me down.
I bought a new Super Cub a few months ago as a second bike to ride around town. I haven't stopped grinning.
In Australia we Honda CT110 bikes, very similar to the cub. They're used as postie bikes to deliver mail in the suburbs.
The heel/toe shifter is so that one doesn't scuff the toes of their shoes on the way to work.
At least that's how it was explained in the manual for my 1962 C50,
They were concerned that any young professionals who bought the bike wouldn't want to mess up their outfit while commuting.
Hence the leg shields, and heel/toe,
Also the 50 (like mine) are push rod engines with splasher oil systems (think B&S lawnmower engine).
Good video.
A great remake on a world wide favorite 🤙🏼
I like the test rides! Keep doing them
Oh man the alerts are working finally! Looking forward to the video
That's legend, bro, in Indonesia shifting up using the front lever and down using back lever, people buy because of their memories using that bike when they are in the young age or for collection because it looks classic
I've had one for the last few months in the UK. It's my first bike and is great for taking around the City. It can reach 70 indicated on A roads, but comparing that to my what Sat Nav is saying it's more like 63.
it's a modern machine in a old jacked.
i love that
my grandpa had the 70cc bike of the same bike. Its was hella fun and bulletproof reliable.
In Australia the posties have these to deliver the mail
Best part is when RWT tries to max a postie!xD
Yeah thats true! Ive got one at home, was more an obervation of the styling
What a cool little people mover :)
You may damage the clutch bro.. Shift that gear slowly 😂
@ErikDK yea he acts as if he never road a manual four wheeler lol what a noob
j0sh I mean He is used to normal bikes with a clutch
You can't damage the clutch. It's a Cub! You should see what the rest of the world does to these poor bikes. There is a reason these are the most popular motorcycle in human history
It does have a clutch - a centrifugal one - like you have in RC cars with engines. You can damage it by slipping it too much. What you are actually doing by lowering the throttle is disengaging the clutch shoes - then you change gear - add throttle again and the clutch shoes expand outwards and grip the clutch bell and provide drive. Brilliant little bikes - and the single most popular machine in the world - over 100m produced :-)
My wife (BMW bike rider) just fell in love with the 2020 Super Cub at Ride Now in Tucson, AZ. She is very definitely going to buy this cute little bike on looks alone. She pictures herself running errands, with the optional luggage rack of course, and riding to her hiking trails. Decked out with a scarf and a flowery half helmet, I can totally see it happening. The red color scheme for 2020 had me thinking, maybe I'll get the retro Honda Trail to tag along. Well done, Honda! Cheap, reliable city cruisers are back!
Super Cub owner here. The shifting takes a little getting used to but it works really well.
I saw Jay Leno do a piece on this bike and had to have one. Just got rid of my Kawa ER6n and swore if on 2 wheels it would be my bicycle. Checked Honda dealers in Salt Lake, no bikes. Googled pre-order C125 and a dealer in Orem had 2. I bought one and on the ride home met a guy at the liquor store. He bought the other. In 3 weeks I put near 1000 miles on mine. It's in for service. When I get it back we have many miles to go. Added rack and soft bag for utility. Just a wonderful motorcycle getting 150 mpg.
As a teen living in Buenos Aires, I rode a 70cc Honda Dax, it also had a centrifugal clutch, loved it!! Right now, my dream garage is actually a SuperCub and a new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650. Proper vintage vibes and two dope-ass bikes brand new for around the U$S10K (+/-) mark.
in my country you push shifter forward to engage 1st gear to 4th gear
and use heel shift to disengage your gear 4th to N
Love the idea of trying these new bikes 😆
The best reaction ever!!!.........we have that(motorcycle) alot in asia or Southeast Asia...we actually love it... it's classic
This bike is pretty much what we call a postie bike in Australia but it's called a CT110
The ct110 is based off the cub hence the ct cub-trail.
Bro in malaysia we actually modified these to go up to 160kmph
Just curious what all do you do to get more power out of it
@@jase1911 we change a lot...from the ecu/cdi (some still uses cdi) ...changing the head (the cylinder/engine not the head lamp)...of course the engine block too...modifying underbone motorcycle is kind of a culture in eastern asia ...from thailand to malaysia even indonesia ...almost all kind of underbone bike (80cc-150cc) we modified specifically just to race ...is it legal? No. Is it dangerous? No if done properly. Is it high maintenance? Yes ...the more u modified the more u have to keep changing the engine oil...but yea imagine being on a ninja250/yamaha r25 while top speeding then these underbone fly by lmao 😂 ...
If ur interested try checking out "rempit" thats what we called these modifying motorcycle junkies....other example are "pelesit selatan" this is one of the rempit group...you can check the video on youtube ...but 2 things ...first , in asia we dont wear full suits or gears ..just straight up shirt and pants because its our daily transportation...secondly we actually "fly" or "superman" (we commonly call it fly) just to show off and be a bit faster ...well at least thats most of the rempit do lol...any question just reply ...not many people outside of asia know about these culture
Ps some even goes to 200kmph which not all 250cc capable of these days
The famous underbone right now is yamaha Y15zr...there's other such as lc135 ..125zr.. The numbers are cc ...here in malaysia we just received r15 ...but yea with only 150cc lets just wait till the y15zr trends slows down...if im not wrong in thailand they have already put turbo on r15 ...but in malaysia "rempit" is still using y15zr because its been 3 years released so many aftermarkets and mechanic knows how to modified these
come to south east asia, you will find this kind of moped cub absolutely everywhere, we're moving with this thing on daily basis everywhere to our destination.
I purchased one after Leno showed it. No need for a bigger heavier machine as this does all that's needed. With a rack on the back & a cargo bag I can ride all around the Wasatch front. My MPG is right at 150 even climbing in the mountains. Just a great agile ride.
One of the big advantages of the Super Cub is its wheel size. You are rolling over, not into road damage. The ride is nice and stable.
So it's basically a 4 wheeler / ATV manual transmission? Neutral at the bottom instead of between 1st and 2nd with no clutch.
like a pitbike engine :) N1234
They are based off of these engines, as far as i know, honda put them in their atcs(3wheelers) and early atvs
Love these vids
These are loved in Japan. It was my first choice for a rental moto to explore Tokyo. A clutch is a total PITA in heavy urban traffic.
The Heel shifter is good for those who don't want shifter marks on their shoe.
Yeaa in Jamaica most bikes under 250cc have those kinda shifters. It's kinda nice
Yea that's true.
Japanese and Chinese bikes
That is why it was installed on small Hondas in the 60s/70s. My CL70 had the heel/toe 4sp with a hand clutch. Office workers and delivery riders in Tokyo wore proper polished leather shoes. This didn't scuff the shoes. That's what Honda states was the original purpose.
in my country this kind of motorcycle is everywhere. And its easy to ride too
Yooo back it with the 125's be safe brotha.
Australia Post have their entire fleet filled with these, just because they love to fkn send ittttt
So just like the trail70s, and Trail 110's, of the 70s-80s, they have Semi-Auto transmissions. Very cool!!
A lot of food delivery man ride this thing in Korea. We have our own copy version of Super Cub so we don't ride this but we do. You get me? Anyway last few years many people switched to Japanese scooter, but still Super Cub is cheaper and cheaper to maintain and has better gas mileage, so you can see often on the street.
I always enjoy your videos man. Thank you for that.
That’s gorgeous
I'm thinking the heel and toe shifting is to not scuff up the tip of a nice pair of shoes.
In my country theres a lot of this in 80-90,s even now still roamin. This bike called Honda C70 or Honda Astrea Grand
That is the most bomb styling thing
These are cool!! I use the 110cc version in Australia as a motorcycle postie. Great fun to ride 👍
sounds like a great use case!
Remenber that this bike is made it to work! Mail, delivery...or just dayli drive, is design to fuel eficience and to go in to the traffic easy and quick stop and go! And basicaly to last long.. this bike never broke. the first generation is still on the streets in some countrys. And yes you can down shift very well you just keep press the down shifter then you rev the engine and unpress the shifter and is very quick and fun to do when you got it.
Please try legendary moped yamaha Y15ZR and honda RS150R though...those creatures were popular in South asia😄
I'm digging mine.. been riding for a couple months now. No clutch is nice if you want to have a can of TAB in your left hand :) I'm a city dweller.. it's fun to cruise town on a warm summer day in your shorts and a tshirt... and not look quite as nerdy as on a scooter.
My woman's looking at this as a step-up from her Piaggio 50 for running around in a small town. Personally I think it's pretty cool.
I grew up drooling on the older ones and this one definitely makes me want one-but i have an MT10 and i can't justify it. We would mod the heck out of them and they would get up and go!
Both this and the monkey are my childhood dream 'peds.
The Super Cub line is the most sold bike in history. It was incredibly popular for decades. I really want one. Do a search on the history of them, and how people have done mods on classic cubs.
Or in Malaysia we have a similar version, known as the king of the streets, the absolute lightweight god, the EX5
oh yessss the old faithful EX5, these people doesnt know what they are missing out on
Tho the original C50 Cub was the best imo.. also the bike that I first learned to ride with
Makes me wish I still had my Honda Metropolitan. That thing was stupid fun. The Cub125 is a neat bike haha
I'd really like to pick up a Metro and do some simple mods on it
I think a metro build would be dope. Mine was a 2003 but I loved that thing. Sadly traded it in for my fz-07
It’s a modern version/iteration of the Cub C50, C70 and C90... which have been out for years. I used to ride my dads 90... shifting I always used my toes whether up or down shifting, never heal. I’d move my foot all way back and toe to shift up and obv use the forward part to shift down. You therefore always press to shift gears up or down. Yes, de-throttle while shifting. They are not mopeds, they are 4 stroke motorbikes. Knicknamed Granda Plakka... Plakka being slang for plastic. Love them... not so much this one tho.
Motonosity the heal gear selector can be used as a clutch for more control and power on up hills and tight turns
The Super Cub is the largest selling bike in the world. I have seen a family of five on one of these in Thailand and a Thai farmer loading one of these with huge baskets of produce and his wife on the back heading for the city market in Ubon, Thailand. This is the modern version of the "Little Honda" that the Beach Boys were sang about in the 1960's. It was my first ride and introduced millions of bay boombers to motorcycles in thier youth, in the 50 and 90cc versions. The 50s and 90s were always underpowered for American roads so the 125 is a welcome improvement. Retired "Boomers" might even be interested in getting back on one. I know I would.
this type of bikes is very popular in south east asia market.
we call it = underbone bike/ moped bikes / cub type
best for commuting around the country.
I actually have c100 back in the days and modified it to a skele. That bike is common in South East Asian countries and we specify that as an underbone bike. We also use that 125 engine in drag racing coz it's bullet proof.
This bike is a work of art masterpiece! Just like the vintage HONDA MB5, that looks like a mini-Ducati.
Older tech...I had one in the 60’s in a Honda Trail 50 and then the Honda Trail 90. They called it an “Automatic Clutch” and it was 4 down to upshift and the heal was used to downshift. We always would let off the throttle to shift it through.
Most people in Asia have a basket or a monorack installed for practicality. The heel toe shifter is supposed to be front up, rear down. Idk why it’s like that in America. It’s pretty much made with city riding and lane splitting in mind
I think that thing is awesome!
In Australia the postman uses this bike to deliver mail. Very popular small bike
If ever you don't know that kind of bike, it can be called a cub but here in the Philippines or Southeast Asian market its categorized as underbone motorcycles. There is also a sportier underbones here in Southeast Asia mainly the Raider 150 or Satria 150, and the Sniper 150 or Street Monarch. You might wanna check out Sniper 150 because it looks so cool and sporty.
In malaysia there's a lot of semi automatic bikes.... a lot of Malaysian prefer this kind of motorcycle because it's simpler and easy to ride...
What was your top speed because we gears you would have to have a motorcycle license but would you be able to do the 5560
It IS the most bomb 💣 thing I've ever seen!!!
I love the damn thing!!! Awesome!!!
If you shift halfway, it will react like clutch kind of
If you go to indonesia or malaysia.. this type of bike is common, like every person that you meet on the street they have the "cub" motorcycle because it's small and easy and fit to our posture
In greece we mostly have these semi automatic bikes and everyone drives one.
I personally have been riding my dad's cub since I was 13... now I'm 18 and I have a drz :)
You can hold the shifting like your pulling the clutch so you can rev. That transmission is the normal thing here in the Philippines which is most motorcycle here are 100 - 150cc
Honda C90 cub, most sell vehicle in the 🌎 ! There’s a lot of heritage in this new model and I am sure many people will Buy it AGAIN! Suzuki had its direct competition with the FR100, but Honda always kept the lead!
Amazing vehicles!
Is it a 4 speed? heel toe shifter so that your shoes wont get scratched.
Can you do a first ride on 2019 cbr650r?
It’s a fun bike, I own one, they are kind of hard to find limited release in the US. My local Honda dealer only got 4 and they were sold before they came in.
so there is a thing I called a semi-auto clutch ( IDK if quick shift works the same ) but when you push ( pull ) the pedal/lever halfway through, you just disengage the clutch, and all the way through, you just change the gear.
The Super Cub was built in mind for us Asian people, and it has been around for more than 30 years if I am not mistaken. Started off as the Honda C50 "Cub" and used as a learning bike in some Asian countries. Tho we've never call underbone bikes "scooters", we call them mopeds cuz scooters are automatic bikes for us
In Asia, they wear a lot of sandals so the heal shifter works well. You don't rub the top of your foot raw.
you are now an official posty. high vis and a super cub
Its like a general motor type in asia. And I laugh the whole vid. 😂😅
Its called a "Moped" its kinda like driving stick, you gotta get the feel before you shift. We got tons of that back in the Philippines as high as 175 ccs. Its supposed to be used for short distances. Its a bit slow because i assume you weigh around 175 pounds. That bike is good enough for small trips like a trip to the market 5 - 10 blocks away. Youd even find one with baskets in front.
Big.Bad.Ballistic ..not a moped.Mopeds have pedals, like a bicycle.The cub is a true motorcycle.
Im not a huge fan of this style of motorcycle (personal preference obviously), but I love the styling of this one. With the lines and the color scheme as it is, it makes me think, "If someone from the 1950's designed the bike of the future this is what they would do." Its pretty sick looking, I bet it would look awesome in candy apple red and an off-white/cream.
Shits classic bro...I'm feeling it
Us Malaysians will abuse that bike on highway, off road, town ride. It becomes multipurpose as soon as it landed here. 😂
maluapebossku
Yeah.. Also here in the Philippines hahahaha.
except, this will be more expensive than regular underbones...
U should come to malaysia n try ride honda rs150 with doch system or yamaha lc135/15zr
Yeah right
Postie bike in Australia .... the post people use them to deliver the mail a big bag over the front hangers and saddle bags over the rear .
Over here in the UK there an iconic bike.
Sounds like the clutch is integrated with the shifter. Not clutchless.
