Just the fact that people still comment and show love to the sopranos only speaks to the impact this show had. I’m only 23, my dad said to watch it and oh boy I finally know why this is such a classic.
I was about 15 when the last episode aired. I didn't watch the show until a few years later, but I can remember my parents watching it every week. And I'll never forget the ending of the last episode. I heard the Journey song playing through the speakers as I walked by the living room, so I stopped in to watch for a minute. I wasn't familiar with the story. I had seen a few funny scenes here and there, and I had heard a little about the story throughout the years; so the significance of the events happening in relation to the story was lost on me but the tension of the scene was universal. I was glued to the screen, and then when it cut to black, all three of us said "Hey!" in unison. My parents thought the direct tv(or whatever service it was) had gone out. My pops stood up to get the remote and see if it could be fixed and then it happened. The credits started rolling. My Mom said she wasn't sure how she felt about it. I said something about cliffhangers or next season and she said "Nope, that's the end. Maybe they are going to make a movie." And my Pops, who had been standing in silence looked at my Mom amd just said "Cancel HBO." Hahahahaha, good laughs any time I think about it. R.I.P. Pop. He actually was the Gary Cooper strong and silent type. Grew up on a farm in a life as far from NY/NJ as possible. My Mom is from Brooklyn. Got the best of both worlds. All ya'll folks out there, keep it classy, and stay frosty. Keep your hips loose and your head on a swivel.
This is by far the most wholesome and well written comment I’ve probably ever read thank you so much for sharing that for some reason or another it gave me a lot of nostalgia I was 13 when the last episode aired and my parents watched it as well …they had me in their teens but now that I think back to it they were indeed very mature and advanced mentally for their age…I miss the early 2000s what a time.
Whats amazing is every single episode was flawless. Imagine growing up at the time this was coming out weekly? Jheeze, those must have been the golden days
Back in it's day, this was known as "The Greatest Show On Television" and James Gandolfini was known as "The Godfather Of Television." What in unbelievably incredible series, my favorite show to ever exist.
I actually preferred "The Sopranos" to Coppola's "Godfather" movie series. Tony's crew had more heart, and a sense of humor. There's a reason that show has the fan following that it does today, even after it finished. All the ducks were in a row. Script writing, directing, casting, acting, all top notch. Not one bad episode in the entire run. How many TV series can boast having not one crap or "filler" episode? Never has there been a TV series like this one... and I'd say that the odds aren't good for ever seeing one like this again. "Sopranos" set the standard, for rough, gritty, yet at times side splittingly hilarious Italian-American 'family' relations! When it was rough, it was like a horseshoe rasp... but when it was time to bust balls? My god, those guys made me laugh!
@@curtisboswell2619 I completely agree with everything you said. Now that I think of it, I don't ever remember watching a crappy "filler" episode. Everything was always within the progression of the storyline and there was never a dull moment. Everything that happened in each episode was completely necessary and impeccable to the story. Pure brilliance and execution.
@@awonderfulfeeling8588 there were plenty of dull moments and fillers in Sopranos, like the family related stuff, especialy about Meadow and AJ. Only good scenes were Mafia stuff and Melfi scenes, and Occasionaly family stcenes - very rarely though
@@PolishGod1234 I wouldn't call them dull filler moments, they were there to show the ironic depth of love and humanity that a mob boss is capable of feeling, especially toward his family, along with his level of vulnerability regarding his mental health. Those were some of the main aspects of the show that set The Saprono's apart from every other mob show and movie. It brought into account that mobsters had actual lives to live and families to tend to outside of the mafia. It disected the notion that even ruthless mobsters have feelings, because they do indeed feel emotions like any other human being, no matter how heinous their actions may be. They may lack empathy, but at their human core, they still experience emotions nonetheless. It brought a very real and unique feeling to the show. I believe every moment that most people would consider "filler moments" were simply part of a bigger picture that most people weren't ready to acknowledge regarding the world of the mob. It painted a bigger picture, or rather shined some light on a larger idea, that most if not all other pieces of mobster entertainment failed to address. That's not to say that any of the other mob shows or movies weren't absolute masterpieces, but frankly, they were pretty much always the same idea with the same depth of thinking. The Saprono's set itself apart with plenty of these necessary moments that most people would call "filler" moments. It told a bigger story and I found it to be very interesting and unique to the world of the mafia. You truly have to have a healthy level of empathy in order to feel sympathy for a mobster, and The Soprano's does a great job at taking into consideration, that even people who are in the mafia, just like people who are trapped in the gang life, aren't always evil at their core. As hard as that may be to accept and understand. There's always a bigger picture, and The Saprono's does a great job at shedding light on it. If you're watching this show in hopes of getting that same classic mafia fix that you get from watching The Godfather or Goodfellas, you're in the wrong place. The Saprono's tells a bigger story, and if you didn't get the memo from the first season alone, then I don't know what to tell you. For God's sake, the very first scene in the very first episide, he's sitting in a shrinks office. This obviously isn't your classic shoot em up mobster movie, and it you found any of the family moments pointless, then this show is not for you. There's nothing wrong with the show, you're just expecting something different than what it's meant to offer. Plain and simple. People who bash this show fail to understand it completely.
When I was younger I really didn't have the right mentality to appreciate this show, but now...😙🤌One of THE best shows ever made. Amazing writing and acting.
Exactly it came out whole I was in high school but it wasn't until the later seasons that I went back and truly enjoyed the earlier seasons to watch in order
Its a comforting idea that the last we see of Paulie, he's sat outside Satriale's, accompanied by the cat he suspected as being a reincarnated Christopher. No matter how many times those two bickered and hurt each other, they could never escape the dynamic they both had with one another

Sopranos was the first, and then there was a better wave with the likes of Breaking Bad and Vikings. 2022 smashes the shows that were better than Sopranos. It was the first, but certainly not the best.
@@stardaggerrihannsu2363 The Sopranos have opened the way for the other series you mentioned, especially Breaking Bad. Even Brian Cranston stated it : "Without Tony Soprano there would never have been Walter White."
The Sopranos ,The Wire & Bordwalk Empire and Mad Men , they were the best ones HBO made, The Sopranos and The Wire were the most realistic, still to be beat.
That first therapist Melfi went to with her family was hilarious. Always love seeing that guy on a rewatch. Wish he appeared more throughout the series.
I've watched this show so much, all the way through and also clips on youtube and only now did it truly sink in, how good the fighting choreography is. It all looks hella real. No stunt doubles either, (as far as i can tell). Tony vs Ralphie and Tony vs Bobby Bacala was super intense and believable.
This is one of the bes shows ever. I remember watching it with my family and friends. Every Sunday night we would all set together and eat popcorn watching Sopranos. The actors in this show were amazingly talented, and the writers were just as good. One of the beat episodes for me was when Chris and Paulie got lost in the woods with the Russian dude. It was defiantly the funniest episode in the series.
It's not as bad as you think, I was drunk one night and tried to spray some ants and the can was pointed at my face, my eyes were swollen for a couple of days but nothing too bad!!! And no I wasn't wearing socks!!!
It's because Sopranos is character study show. Breaking Bad is about the story. Still think BrBa is better crafted show - directing, writing, cinematography, action, pacing, ideas, musicetc. But both are my favourite shows
@@PolishGod1234 i think cinematography in brba is way better, especially in the later seasons, but i have to agree with the other guy that the sopranos is overall better, the characters, for me, have much more depth and are more iconic in my opinion. it also has wittier writing if that makes sense. both are really good series.
@@joacoseoane imo Sopranos is better for re-watching, as its far more episodic, while BrBa follows the story in every episode. However BrBa is better for me as it feels like it has constantly new ideas, each season feels diffrent and introduces stuff that were not seen before, each new action sequence is fresh, it has no unnecesary filler and seasons proggresively get better while innSopranos seasons 1 and 3 were the peak of the series - season 1 had the best story and dynamic (Livia + Junior) while season 3 has the best episodes. Sopranos is my second favourite show, but what drags it down is that it reuses plotlines like FBI informant, goomars, new villains getting out of prison just to keep the story going, unnecesary sex scenes that don't really add anything etc. Both great shows though, but I think BrBa has more artistic vision
@Séverine Rosalia M. So? Everyone uses this reasoning to imply Sopranos is better than BrBa. Just because it came out first and influenced it doesn't make it better quality-wise
@@PolishGod1234I like how they handled season transitions in Sopranos better than Breaking Bad. The transition from S4 to S5, particularly, I felt was very weak in Breaking Bad, and if we are talking about filler, that episode where they use magnets to destroy the police evidence was just that. In my opinion, Walt should have been portrayed as much more malicious and manipulative and violent at the beginning of S5, threatening Jessie to continue to work for him. Instead, they all just sort of continued working together, and then broke up, which just seemed like the opposite sort of arc they’d been working on the previous 4 seasons. Walt was supposed to turn from innocent noobie, to experienced cook, to power hungry madman, and once he finally dethroned Gus, Jessie was supposed to try and quit the life, like they just escaped it all, and Walt was supposed to go insane, and forcibly keep Jessie in and claim his seat on the throne. The only Sopranos arc that I didn’t particularly like was Blundetto, mostly because I didn’t like Steve Buscemi’s acting. The rest was amazing.
I'm so glad this and so many other shows were shot on film, like _Star Trek: The Next Generation_ and _Seinfeld_ just to name a couple others. They were able to go back to the original film and remaster in high definition. It gives the shows a whole other lifecycle as new generations will be discovering them for years to come.
A fearless leader with extremely loyal fearless friends... is a helluva thing, isn't it? I'm 60... The Sopranos is the best Mafia series ever made. Period.
I'm 29 and just thinking about being very little, half seeing bright frames and upbeat music from the first season in the other room when I was too young to watch, to the dark blue almost black glow that the last episodes radiated (on like my 4th or 5th rewatch) made me deeply sad. 16:50 Carmella's look of just sheer disappointment always gets me. Like she's not even surprised at this point, I think she's just dumbfounded at the fact that Tony thought it would be a good idea to give Meadow her friends car, when she would easily be able to deduce how he acquired it. Her deadpan response of just "Jesus, Tony." is so funny, the things he does without thinking don't even phase her anymore.
It was funny, but the scene itself as a whole was heartbreaking. The only time we see Junior being genuinely happy was when he was with her, and after this it was all downhill.

@@jamesteegardner2273 started running almost 25 years ago. For someone who's 30 or younger that's a long time ago
@@curtisboswell2619 not one bad episode? Idk, the episode a "Hit is a Hit" and that episode about Jew not afraid of death kinda sucked

For the sheer number of iconic characters alone, The Sopranos reigns supreme over Breaking Bad (which is an unbelievably good show in its own right).
