    1. Great Lakes tour?
    2. Cross Country tour?

@@HerTwoWheelsYes, but totally leaving one of the group behind, out of sight....not cool. No respect for you. Jess, thanks for reminding why I no longer like to ride with groups... and why I never ride at night. But I do love the road trips... The solitude is wonderful. And call me crazy, but I love the interstates. I have a trip coming up from San Diego to SW Indiana in a few weeks. My wife is afraid I'll get lonely. It's hard to explain to her, "Yeah, that's kinda the point."

I had the same thing on a ride to Milwaukee from SE Michigan. I was in the rear and hitting red lights after the others made it through yellow (pink). They said I gotta keep up. Not through red lights I'm not! Trailing rider is supposed to set the pace. I hate following people anyway so I'm usually solo. Like it that way!

I'm sorry to see you had a bad group ride experience. The ride captain is responsible for ensuring a safe ride and for keeping the group together. The lane splitting was a bad decision because it needlessly raised the level of risk for all riders in the group. Glad to see you make a good decision for yourself. Safe travels always.
I am part of a riding club in Brampton Ontario. We do group rides every week with the ride, not the destination, as the focus. So I am 100% with you and your preferred riding style. Riding with like- minded riders helps make the journey a joyful thing.

Poor decisions on their part, but good on you to address it in your video (to us) what happened and not letting it deter you from finding the bright side of things along the way.

I like the idea of group rides. I lost my dad when I was 18 when he was hit during a group ride he was in. At the time I didn't get it and still rode kinda ridiculous. I was in a bad accident(that was my fault) when I was 22 showing out splitting traffic in a group ride. That was my wakeup call. I'm lucky to be alive. Over the years I've lost at least a dozen friends over the years. (Most were riders fault.) I'm 44 now my, wife rides, my 21 year old daughter rides. I sound like a broken record but I preach ride your ride. My 67 year old mom is still riding. She's been telling me since I was 12 to not be reckless. You can lose someone in an instant. Stay safe.🍻

We regroup at points and keep at least two riders together. Each group needs to confirm group “rules” before the ride so everyone knows what the expectation is.

I always take alternative roads (ie: LONGER trip) such as hwy 290 in texas or hwy 190 or 90 in louisiana...takes longer, but much more scenic and relaxing. Congrats on a successful safe trip once again.

This was awesome! Totally get the group ride concerns. You have to have a road captain that's experienced and puts the group's interest over their own and communicates well especially in tight traffic. Glad you rode your ride as that's the best way to stay safe and very much agree with your decisions. Would have done exactly the same. Another nice clip!

Blockhead was actually a great road captain. It just gets tricky with more than a few riders and the "slinky effect". If I truly felt like I was "Left behind" and not just a feeling of it, I would have 100% dipped out and continued the duration of the trip solo lol.

I especially appreciate this video showing your tolerance and how you continued to "ride your ride." I went on a group ride with my brother and brother-in-law to UT and back from TN and while we'd leave the hotels at the same time, I invariably ended up miles behind them. There's a huge difference in riding solo and riding in a group, but left behind. It's not a good feeling at all. That was the last time I rode with them.

That's all I ever hope to accomplish by sharing my experiences. This video honestly wasn't about "Look at what these people did to me" It was all about documenting real life experiences of traveling and group riding dynamics. I never felt unsafe or insignificant. It was just the reality of interstate travel. Not discrediting my feelings of "Feeling" left behind. I certainly felt sad in the moment... but I knew it was not intentional.

Good evening, young lady. My name is Mike. I watched a tremendous amount of your clips. Have enjoyed the clip's Great content. You have a lot to offer the motorcycle community... encouraging you and thanking you for your stance. When riding with groups, not riding like those in a group you exercise discretion and safety. I do a lot of long distance motorcycle riding also, have a GL 1500 goldwing and I really enjoy riding alone. I rode with very few groups & I'm the last one so if they want to run and have fun, I let them run and have fun. I like to arrive at my destination safe without stress... motorcycle riding should be enjoyable relaxing. And that is what I strive to attain 2. Congratulations on your stands. Young lady, so proud of you.

We like the rain pants! They look like the open nice to get your leg in and out without struggling. What model numbers are they?

I got these in 2021. They are Harley-Davidson ( I don’t believe they exist anymore) but have been hands down the best rain gear I’ve used.

Good video. I usually ride solo but have a few people I trust to ride with. It is inexcusable for the group to leave you behind. Even though you are a seasoned traveler that is not cool.

You did the right thing. Communication is very important. I do at least 2 group rides for a week or more. We never do highways and all have communication devices. I do at least 3 trips a year alone and enjoy the ride more. Have fun.

Great video. I'm absolutely with you--I enjoy solo rides more as well (just for being able to set my own pace and 100% curate my own experience), but when I do group rides the whole idea is that you act as a GROUP!!! That's kinda the whole purpose... I'd ride WITH you anytime Jess.

It reflects on the ride leader when you're consistently leaving a rider behind unless you're not really riding as a "group" but just individual riders who just happening to be headed for the same destination. If the former, it's on the ride leader not to pull maneuvers everyone can't follow. If the latter, then don't feel guilty about cutting loose and riding your own ride just as you say. I've led many, many rides informally and as a Road Captain and never left a rider behind. Sometimes that annoys someone else in the group; my answer to that is if that rider knows where we're ending up it's OK for them to cut out and ride as fast as they want. Since this was supposed to be a "group", what these guys were doing would have probably pissed me right off and I'd have gone my own way at my own pace.

Met a friend for breakfast on the bike this morning. It was 19F. When we met the rest of the group ride it was only up to 23F. So the ride route was modified a bit and we still got some fun in together. 5 bikes on New Year's Day in Colorado...

Long distance group riding is sort of like building a team…. Forming, storming, norming, performing.
Groups riding is a whole different skill. The goal is to stick together, so you can all get where you’re going.
When the goal shifts from sticking together to just getting there, it’s no longer a group ride…
Especially when they start weaving in and out of traffic…
COMMS can help too. I led a group ride in the fall up to New York (2,000 miles round trip). It was a HUGE help having the riders in the rear notify when they all got through the light, or they’re too far behind.
Up front the speed is a normal pace, in the back you get a lot of rubber band effect that the folks up front just don’t experience…. It’s easy and quick to fall really far behind and have to push it to keep up. A quick “hey hold up” helped slow up the front and let the rear catch up.

It’s a fine balance of riding with somebody. But you should always stay at least in their view because if they’re worth anything, they should be watching for you at all times because anything can happen out there.

one thing, that truck wasn't trying to take you out. the driver was staying in the driving lane doing what s/he is supposed to do. and it's hard to see a motorcycle on the blind side 53' back. I drive truck and I ride motorcycle so I see it both ways. but ride your own ride and be safe

I live in Ca. where splitting lanes is legal and a way of life moto riding but it does wear on me in big cities because I am always trying to stay on top of things but I know it's proven more safe to lane split. Nighttime splitting definitely adds to potential dangerous conditions.

Lane splitting in Texas is not legal. Maintaining visibility and lane position is more important than rushing through traffic.

    Awesome educational video! ❤❤❤
I'm planning to start riding with some new friends (Lady's). I'm use to hanging with guys so it will be different. I'm looking forward to it and I'm nervous about it. 😂 One thing though I doubt they would leave anybody. In your boys defense though. You have more experience road tripping and seemed to be taking care of them so they probably thought you were fine.

I’m sorry Jess. I understand how disheartening this can be. I have it happen to me too. I had best friends left me behind because they wanted to do 90 on the interstate when speed limits were 55! Just showing off. Went straight to them after arriving at our destination and let them know I was never riding with them again! At 5:45….wow ….didn’t look safe! Anytime I’m on long rides, I’m only doing it in small groups…..3-4 riders at most. Please always ride your ride and try to have buddy if everyone else separates. Take care . 👊🏼🤘

That is the whole point and what I hope is the take away from this video, "Ride your own ride" Your friend was certainly a little out of line to leave you (Especially if it was just the two of you) but from his perspective, he was "Riding his own ride" lol
