The Right Trailer to Haul Heavy Machinery

  • I had been asked a million times to talk about the right trailer to haul heavy machinery and what I use personally as well as why i chose the specific trailer I did. To be honest I left a lot of that up the Chris at NITE Trailer in Pecatonica because he is the PRO. I have had great luck with my B&B Trailer and can definitely recommend it to anyone looking to buy a trailer for hauling.
    What I really like is how I barely know its back there when empty or loaded. It is perfect for todays heavy skid loaders. Having dual super single axels is awesome. Feel free to ask me any questions down below in the comments and make sure you are subscribed for more future videos.

    One thing that I have noted in your videos is how safe you guys work. You have the right tools and the right equipment for the jobs you contract. A significant capital investment that many builders are unwilling to make because "baby needs new shoes."

    It’s great! My shed has been completed and it turned out nice looking and sturdy and it is way better than the sheds that many of my neighbors had put up. Of course, I'm pleased with the outcome and this Ryan’s ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxGZedDTcDfgD7fG_uU4esfx_EgxzlY2_1 Plans was extremely useful to me as a guide.

    When I started racing my uncle let me use his homemade/mobile home axle trailer. I quickly realized I needed something better that was mine. I bought my 18' steel deck Lamar car hauler brand new and have never regretted it. It also comes in handy for hauling lumber and anything else I need. There is definitely something to be said about having the right equipment for the job.

    Great trailer. I’m up in Canada and needed a tilt load flatbed. I learned real quick that not all trailers are created equal. I found a 20’ 7 ton tilt load. It has double 10k dexter axles. It has many of the same options yours has. I’ve had it for 7 years and is always hauling at near capacity. It has worked flawlessly. Yes it cost more than other “ tilt loads” but pays off every time I use it. Buy the right tools the first time!

    One tip on running trailers with a lot of weight, is to make sure all the tires are inflated to their max. Under-inflated tires turn hard, wear out faster, heat up and can per-maturely fail. I constantly see trailers with under-inflated tires. Also pack those electrical connections with Dielectric grease.

    I bought a 14k b&b tilt trailer maybe 12 years ago. It's a very well built trailer. I'd definitely get the 20k if I were buying anothe, since hauling a track loader pushes the weight limit like you mentioned.

    I didn’t know this was an option for a double axle trailers. Have a longer tilt bed with 3 7k axles. It’s also longer than this trailer by about 6 feet and it will destroy the hubs if you try to jack it in while backing up.

    I can only add about the electric brakes- I'm sure you've got them, but they deserve mention; the tow vehicles brakes should be rated to handle it's towing capacity- but the help trailer axle brakes give cannot be discounted. In a tightening situation on the open road at 60-65 mph the 3500's weight is 7000# plus, the B&B trailer is likely 4500# and your load is 17,000#- all up that is 28,500 pounds moving at 60 mph- it will take out a bunch of "county work" if it gets out of control- you don't even need to be at fault to go there- so no attention fool driving down the highway playing games on his phone and you are looking at much pain, much uncovered expense (unless you paid a hefty premium most insurance co.s don't want to rent a Track Steer and attachments and trailer for however long it takes to fix of fabricate the new stuff.
    Kyle- you are good for this- be safe, keep your help safe, love your wife (how's the house remodel going?) and kids! Continued and great success!

    Awesome trailer! Another thing to think about is the axle rated weight in combination with the weight of the trailer itself. So big heavy trailers like dump trailers can have 14k axles but the trailer capacity is only around 12k since the trailer itself is so heavy.

    Hey Kyle, l have a slightly off topic comment. I was noticing the sawhorse in the background. I build mine using the same design however the only 2x4 I use is the web portion of the beam. Everything else are 1x4's. Top, bottom and legs. I set my legs back 4" so there not a tripping hazard when you're walking around them. I never thought that they would hold up under much weight but my brother stored 15 sheets of 3/4 form plywood soaked with oil on top of them for five years outside in the weather. The plywood was covered but the legs of the horses was exposed and on dirt. The only thing that happened was that one of the legs bowed. Also there much lighter making them easier to move around.

    Bumper is an old word used in towing when they were used until the got re-engineered to not be able to handle more than 5K in weight, *tag* or *tow behind* for the trailer and *conventional* in lieu of "bumper" since now a days the hitch is a separate part but directly bolted to the frame for better capacity and handling.

      That 2-5/16” ball coupler is itself rated for 21k. Depends on the rating of the ball, the ball mount and the hitch. But Kyle isn’t running this at full capacity. Payload for this is about 17k and he’s under that by about 4K.

    B&B definitely makes quality trailers and heavy duty for sure. I've had a few of them over the years. Currently I have a PJ deckover 24' full hydraulic tilt gooseneck. 8k axles single tires. 14 ply tires. Also have a 17k winch on it for dragging dead stuff on the deck. Been very pleased with it as well. Only complaint is their powdercoat system. Comes off in sheets but that's easy to remedy.

    • @niteequipment598
      @niteequipment598 4 роки тому +1

      One thing to consider on the PJ’s is the primer plus upgrade. We put it on every trailer we stock. It’s still gonna rust if you haul it in winter but we’ve seen it slow the process down. And it’s only like $150. No brainer. PJ told us we were the only dealership in the U.S. getting primer on everything we order (this excludes utility trailers). We want our customers to have the best shot at a good looking trailer. Kyle’s purchased his PJ before this option was offered and it still looks relatively good. It’s obvious he takes care of his equipment.

    @Garth2011 4 роки тому +1

    Another point to take note of...the trailer's axles. Most trailers of all types are fitted with 3,500 lb axles and they usually come with 15" tires and 5 lug bolts. Problem with those set ups are early tire failure. For some reason, even though the gross loads do not exceed the axles capacity, tires for those sized wheels fail early. Best to upgrade the axles to the next gross capacity such as 7,500 lbs per axle, 6 or 8 lug bolts so that the wheels have to accept the better made tires. The trailer makers are hurting the industry and customers by using the 3,500 lb axles. Truly, don't rent, use or buy the light weight trailers because the tires for them will not last, you'll get flats as the temperatures increase on hot pavement etc.

    HI Kyle, as far as supporting RR ... Can we get those 6x6 rebar post bases put on Amazon? I did see some but they're 99 bucks a piece. I know they retail for about half of that???

    • @RRBuildings
      @RRBuildings  4 роки тому

      They should ship to ton direct. (800) 798-5562. call ask for Dave and Drop my name! should give you discount too!

    • @mmmmmmm8706
      @mmmmmmm8706 4 роки тому

      RR Buildings , thank you so much Kyle! The thing is, on ebay or amazon, the shipping is more than the product! 50 bucks per bracket on ebay x 4(need four) + 289 shipping. Amazon, theyre 90bucks a piece, but have prime shipping. I should be able to find these local to Seattle u would think. Ill call the number you sent though! Much appreciated. I did get some advice from Samurai Carpenter on his facebook channel Makers Mob on using 24 inch threaded rod instead of brackets. Thanks again!

For me the phone is one of my main tools, I got loads of apps that help me manage my business, advertising and quoting, angle estimator, apps that link to tools, calculators plus a load more. Nobody seems to talk about it and as much as I can’t stand the smartphone zombies out there, having the phone makes work easier therefore it’s gotta be a tool
