- Cheap DIY Pet Fence
In this video I installed a backyard dog fence to keep my puppies in. I used 3/4" PVC pipe, 3/4" rebar and mesh utility fence 4' x 50' with 2"x4" squares. This DIY dog pen was a quick and affordable solution for a temporary (maybe permanent) fence to contain my dogs and could work for all kids of pets, around your garden, as a goat fence. This fence wont hold aggressive dogs or dogs that want out. I also use layered protection-dog tags, invisible fence, training, never leaving my animals unattended and this for now.

“Cuz even though I have a tape measurer, I didn’t measure it.”
I feel this on a spiritual level. Lol
😆 🤣
The fence people quoted me 6,000... Your strategy will do it for less than 1/20th of that. This is amazing, you're a life saver!
You could spend a little more and buy the wood post, but you'd have to DIY it cause install just drives the cost up.
So nice to see a woman doing this type of video instead of all guys.
Hey thanks!
I love this. I’m a widow with three little dogs and no one to build my fence. Now I’m going to try and do it myself so my dogs can be safe. Thank you. Subbed.
That's so great, I'm glad you found this helpful
Hi Delania, I am going to do the same, I live in New England, so hoping ground will be ready by late March early April. Might need some pointers then!
Great, I gotcha
This is impressive. Cutting rebar is no small task.
Bravo!
Hey, gotta save where I can! Thanks
Thank you for this video Queen. This was just what I needed. I will do something similar to this for my 5 puppies, my land is not this big but I need them to be able to have play time. Thanks.
Absolutely, also look for old trampoline frames. I put my young puppies in that until they learned to climb out, that's why I had to build this. All you do is run some hardware cloth around it with zip ties!
This is great, thank you, so much, for sharing your brilliant fence idea!
Thanks for watching.
Perfect! Jimmy rig is my style and this fence is just what I need. Thank you very much for your clear and efficient explanations. I have subscribed for more. Headed to the hardware store today!
Thanks for subscribing
Brilliant! Exactly what I was wondering if I could do this on my own, and here you are, Fran! Thank you so much for posting this. Happy New Year!!!
Happy New Year!
Great Idea. Thanks! I can do it for my garden fencing
Absolutely 💯
Great job looks good. Your dogs look like they're enjoying it.
They are!
Thanks so much for the video and supply list, this is fabulous for my apt back yard for my dog!!
Glad to help!
Great job, Fran! Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for watching 👀
This is so awesome! Nice work
Looks good and serves a great purpose. Great job. I’m always looking to save money!
Me to!
I just subbed because I’m interested. Thanks Queen

Your welcome!
Thanks for sharing, sis!
Absolutely
Love it!
Thanks!!
Great job, ma'am!
Thanks
Thank you so much!
No, thank you for watching!
Awesome! I’m by myself as well, and my small dog gets back onto a 4’ slope at the back of my yard. It’s dirt and mud in most parts and he has a Napoleon Complex with the large dogs behind me. I’m SO SICK of pulling him out from behind the small fence I made, and taking him to the bathtub! Ground cover doesn’t grow fast enough to cover the dirt, so this is perfect! Thank you!!
Great, I hope this is your solution
One day when I have land I’ll do this with my dogs!
They will love you for it!
Ty beautiful mama! Xo 🤗 ❤
No problem 😊
Great idea. I have ducks that are free ranging. Thank you
That's a great use!
Super dope
Thanks
Nice video!!
Thanks!
The dogs are so happy
Yeah, they love to run almost free, and they sleep like babies.
Clever!
I try!
Thank you so much
Absolutely
Thank you so much for this idea. I will try this with the black mesh and try to double the fence in height. I have 2 jumpers. Smh
Great!
Thank you❤
Thank you
Good Morning Fran,
Loved your ideas! Do you think a 6 ft fencing with PVC would work? We have hawks in my area, so I wanted the height so we could walk in area. Then put a tarp on top. Our puppies are only 5 lbs now, so wanted to protect puppies until they got bigger. Any ideas are well appreciated. Sue M
I'm not sure, but I am planning on doing 6', my dogs are high jumpers. Although they have not jumped the fence yet I think once they figure out they can-they will-or even when they go into heat. My smaller dog-cookie is only about 5 pounds, and we have hawks in the area so I keep a close eye out on her. We also have a 10x10 kennel that's about 6' high and enclosed, we bought that from Tractor Supply it was about $500. Maybe that would make you feel more comfortable until they are bigger. Our kennel sits inside the DIY fenced area.
One of the reasons I like this DIY fence version is that I can move the 4' section of the fence to my back yard, so no waste or difficult removal. I have 2 acres to fence in and this is the best budget friendly version I have found. I'll do something cute, like vinyl or privacy across the from sides for cub appeal. Hope this helps!
Wow very cool! Do the dogs jump up onto the fence andjif so how does it hold up?
Yes they do, and they tussle up against it. It had held up, I do have to to pound in the PVCpipe every so often. The poles are spaced 4-5' apart. I'm going to go back and put a pole in between each set and that will make it stronger. I'll do an update Thursday just for you!
Hot damn I like it I wish I was neighbor I help you and learn something
That wold be cool
Great solution! Roughly how far into the ground did you hammer the rebar?
Roughly 2 feet, and I pushed the pvc down about a foot on top of the rear. Hope this helps
@@OfficiallyFran yes that does! thank you for your reply :) I'm looking to do this myself temporarily
You GO 👧🏻👍💪😀🙏
😆 🤣
I found this and love you....need any cheap hacks I can get
IKR, more to come
Good job though!
Thank you
Awesome video! Would you say this is renter friendly and non damaging?
Kind of, yes. there would only be the holes from the post and even the gate is just holes and no cement. I didn't think about that, great catch!
@kimthatcat, I would get the landlords permission just in case. show them the video for references.
I already commented, but it’s time to do this in Michigan! What did you use to cut the rebar? I’m scared!! My dog is only 15 lbs, but he’s a brat! lol!
Ok, Let's Go! I used a Ryobi Grinder, it sparks so be careful. You could buy the bar in the shorter size, then you don't have to cut. It was cheaper for me to buy long pieces and cut down. Good luck, and be safe
@@OfficiallyFran
Thank you! That was fast! Is that like a Dremel?
I have a Dremel multitool that has a metal saw on it, but I think I’ll buy them already cut.
Speaking of rebar, my part-time bf wants me to fix my broken fence post (God forbid he’d do it!) by drilling a hole and putting a piece of rebar in the middle. Too much work for me, and I’m only 4’9”, and have severe Lyme and pain.
Ha ha! I taped it together with brown packing tape and it stayed up all winter! He never knew! Lol!
Thanks again❣️
😆 🤣
What I would do differently is dig down on the line of the fence about half a foot place the fence in the trench then cover it back with dirt so they can’t dig out of it
Good idea! We moved to a fenced yard just as they started to get out.
❤
Have you had goats on the property did it work ...Looking for a cheap do it yourself containment
No I haven't, but I saw a video where a man used something like this.
Love the video. Just wanted to add something I found out about goats and fences when I once had them. They LOVE to lean on and rub themselves on fences, I guess for a good scratch. One girl rolled right through the bottom of the fence! :) They were the big, beautiful Nubians.
Good to know.
Awesome job!!!
😊 thanks
If the fence is double the height can it be used for cats?
I don't think height is a concern for cats; they can get up there. It would probably have to be fully enclosed. Search "outdoor cat enclosure" there are some cool and cheap ideas
This type of fence worked for my 2 male cats. They are too big to bother climbing on it and don't jump 6 feet high. My female did climb it, but doesn't like to because I think the wire hurts her paws.
I bet the bigger roll was a different gauge wire making it cost more?
No, but the price was fixed the next day.
Did you use PVC fencing or was it metal fencing?
I used the metal, the dogs would have eating the pvc, or tried!
Wow can I say you are one tough woman
😆 🤣
She’s willing to do and enjoy doing her own work respect 💯
When you do off the wall projects, you have to DIY
Will this work for large dogs
My dogs are medium, and it's holding. The fencing does come in 6 foot if you'd like more height.
If you spray paint the fence black it will make it nearly invisible
I know....., I started using the black on everything after this, I love it.
T posts might be easier and sturdier. They last forever.
Yeah, I considered those.
Tpists would have been much easier…sturdier…less visible…
It's a little more expensive also. This held up well. Luckily, we moved before they really understood. It was also really easy to move with up, and we recycled the parts for our chicken run.
You rock!
Thanks
