    Something is going on with Prince Charming and my gut instinct pushed me to pursue getting him checked out again, and this time we are going to a specialist. He has been improving since beginning his relivalization process, however, I feel as though there is something underlying and I want to investigate. Now that I have owned him for 2 months I can see that there is more than just the high/low effecting him. In this video I will talk about what I see, show you some parts of the vetting process, and talk about any results we come up with. As always Enjoy the ride!
    🦄🤩💖PRINCE CHARMING:
    Prince Charming is a 13 year old, 15.2hh, Appaloosa gelding who I bought from an auction May of 2022. He is kind, willing, and gentle.

      Thank you for having the courage to say that because so many people don't and the vets are the only ones that are having the hands on the horses besides obviously you and those that you let have hands on them you can watch videos countless times and not pick up on something that by feeling you'll detect. Prince charming is very lucky to have you. And just know that 100% of the time you're probably going to have to post something like this on videos but that saying you're leaving with care and the diagnosis up to a vet is something to definitely definitely give yourself a pat on the back for sadly so many people just UA-cam what's wrong with my this what's wrong with my that and I've saw horse with a torn ligament at one point go 6 months before the owner finally called the vet because they were going off of Google and UA-cam advice which was not what was needed.

    You can make an ice pack with a large zip lock bag - 1 part rubbing alcohol, 2 parts water. Freeze. Makes a bag you can wrap around an injury and is a lot cheaper than blueberries! Also helps if you double bag the zip lock bag. Best of luck in helping Prince Charming completely recover.

    Prince Charming is so lucky to have you as his owner. I admire your efforts to heal him. I was fine a welsh pony for my 9year old daughter. She was a beautiful pony in temperament and looksThowever she had snapped a tendon in her leg and had been turned out for 18 months. We brought her back to fitness very very slowly much as you are doing. And we continued to care for her in that if the ground was to rough and hard we did not jump her or we chose a course that suited her better. This often meant that my daughter could not ride in the event she had entered or that by choosing a different course she ruled herself out of any prizes. Im so proud of my daughter, never once did she complain. She was totally committed to the welfare of her pony and put her ponies need before her own.
    Not so the next family who knew her history and how we managed her. They over-jumped her and snapped her tendon 😭

    Thank you so much for posting this! I bought a horse from auction in January and turned out she has navicular syndrome. I thought about turning her back because I was concerned with being able to afford her medical bills. I've paid more in vet bills than her auction price due to a separate issue but she is worth every penny. She is the sweetest mare and full of life. I ride her bareback because it seems to cause her the least pain. This video has also made me question if she has something going on with her pelvic bone since she was a broodmare and her xrays were consistent with navicular changes for a horse her age. Thanks again for sharing this journey! Auction horses are worth it and have some of the best personalities. Thank you for caring and not giving up on prince charming! Glad you can get him fixed up and stop his pain.

      All we can do is our best for them and that's being present and giving them the best care. I'm so glad you're sharing all sides of the auction. They just need one person to care enough to help them fix whatever health or mental issues they have going on and not turn them back. She hasn't been lame from the navicular in awhile which is awesome! She's barefoot, on equioxx, and ground work seemed to help alot. No horse is perfect. You will find something with every horse. If you love them, it doesn't matter you'll figure it out. So glad there's a resolution for Prince Charming and he will be healthy and healed even if it takes 6 months! I look forward to watching his journey.

      @@HC-yb7hi So "navicular changes of a broodmare" cause lameness? I'm trying to learn new info and liked hearing that your treatments extinguished her lameness. Great!

    • @HC-yb7hi
      @HC-yb7hi 2 роки тому

      @@virtualselfie6899 Navicular changes in the front legs are usually from repetitive motion wearing down the navicular bone or quick changes of pace in performance such as barrel racing which causes intermittent lameness. Her right front is worse than the left but exercising her, building her muscles back up, getting her hooves stronger, and having her on a daily anti-inflammatory helps. Usually, you'd keep a horse with navicular shod well. Her xrays showed navicular changes consistent with a 13 year old horse and werent as bad as they could have been. I can ride her but no telling how long or how it will progress overtime. I wonder if she has pelvic issues from being a broodmare, as a separate thing because she has back soreness and psoas soreness and her hox swell up on occasion which could be from shifting of the pelvic bone or pinching of nerves from being a broodmare. I thought the pelvic issue Prince Charming has was interesting because it can go unnoticed and it makes ya wonder about your own horse.

    Thank you for helping him. I hope he gets well. Auction horses may have issues, but I think other sources of purchasing can have the same issues, especially if the seller doesn't know or does know and wants to dump the problem(s) on some unsuspecting person. My experience with vet checks prior to purchasing is that not everything is caught. The issue usually arises after the horse is started under saddle and worked enough for stress to occur. So, I'm not quick to believe auction horses are the only ones with problems or potential problems. Keep up the good work!

    • @freespiritequestrian
      @freespiritequestrian  2 роки тому +1

      Oh yes I completely agree! The thing with auction horses is you don’t get nearly enough time with them and typically you have ZERO history on them and no PPE. Buying any horse is a risk, and things can go undetected like you said, but auctions are a much higher risk. I wanted to try and be straightforward with people that it’s not just about “finding good horses” or “getting a good deal” on auctions horses and then riding them into the sunset, but that there is a higher risk and usually more money and time involved then a “normal” sale. But I do agree that issues can arise anywhere from any situation. ❤️

It is wonderful to see someone like you who keeps the horse in mind and willing to walk this road with him. He is an absolutely beautiful Appy. Oh, I’m so glad you took him in to be checked. I love that horse and I hope he is with you for a very long time. You hit the jackpot when you found him and he is lucky to have you. Once you get him back to where he needs to be, he will be amazing. I’m going through the same thing with my horse. She has a hunters bump and she has had 3 adjustments so far. They are more than worth the money and time. If you don’t take care of them when they get injured it is so bad for the horse and they suffer. Please keep us updated on how he is doing. 💜

      Horse rescue on you tube
      They go to kill pen horse
      Auctions and recuse horses
      And rehab them. I hear

      Up in the slaughter pipe line .
      Starved almost to death .
      It is very sad .
