DEATH, the puss in boots archienemy and it can complete challenges faster and killing enemies and unlock characters FASTER AND EASIEST
I use Dio and i kill very fast and easy.
It took me several tries, but I managed to beat him using NES Mario.
Also, Fun Fact: If you failed to unlock Death for the first time and do another match and quit, you'll still get your chance to unlock him.
The effort they put into this guy is incredible.

Had to cheese this guy out with bowser to even have a chance, the super armor went kinda crazy
if you fight death in a stock match he only has super armour until 20%
I had people over and we were trying crusade for the first time, we lost our shit at the cutscene its insane the amount of work went into this

If he is far from you, Use Neutral B or Side B, on the other hand If he is close to you, try to prioritize tilts and smashes

The Game auto starts after choosing window size (it and skips the intro and even starts the game without even me hitting the Enter button to get into the game after the Title) and I can not use any of the controls except for the esc button and keeps making weird beeping sound. I also can't select any mode on the main menu. How do I fix this?

I don't know, but what I do know is a trick to beat him. Just use kirby and down b him when you can.
I used old goku ssj mod to deafet him
