My husband's mother used to sing this song in the vaudeville theatre in Glasgow and the whole city clapped and cheered her. She had a beautiful voice and used to sing for extra cash as she was very poor and her husband was away at war. This was during WWII. As I hear this it makes me want to cry. My husband died 15 years ago and I love and miss him so much!
What a beautiful story! My husband also died (he was originally from Scotland)...I feel that both husbands are with us when we hear this song--and are waiting for us!
My condolences for your loss. Even though it was 15 years ago, I'm sure you feel the absence of your husband deeply. I learned to sing this song about 15 years ago to sing it for my wife on our anniversary. I certainly didn't sing as beautifully as this singer, but I think my wife was touched. She died almost exactly one year ago, much too young at age 70 and still as beautiful as the first day I saw her 50 years ago. This is now one of the special songs I sing in remembrance of her. Peace to you.
@@unterwant Well, it's because God gave her talent and she worked hard to perfect it. My love was like a red, red rose, but I didn't sound nearly this beautiful when I sang this song to her. I think she loved it, though, because she loved me - lucky me. She's gone now, and hearing this song brings sad tears of loss, and happy tears of gratitude and sweet memories of our years together.
