Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) Film Critique

- Following the success of his ambitious Dollars Trilogy, Sergio Leone attempted a film in scope larger than any of his previous movies. Like many other fourth films in a director’s canonical filmography, ‘Once Upon a Time in the West’ is the culmination and summation of the earlier three films, as well as a self-referential work which is aware of the expectations of their established directorial style.

The cast, the story line from beginning to end. Simply the best Western of all time. I will never forget any of the scenes in this movie.
One of the best Westerns ever made.
I loved the opening, absolute perfection.

You can watch a 1000 western films; I may have over 75 years!...but the mind somehow wanders back to scenes, images and the sound of this film, which is, for me, a Western masterpiece....from start to finish.

The John Ford/Wayne trilogy is superb. Eastwood's western are superb. But Once upon a time is the greatest of them all thanks to Henry Fonda as the bad guy, the music, the whole film is a masterpiece. The trein station scène plus music is possibly one of the finest scènes in all film history
I think that is one of the most big reasons for this film to be so great ... seeing Henry Fonda playing a bad guy, of all people, Fonda. The film is a classic ....
@@Comdesron17 And he's playing it VERY WELL... All the cast is top.
Sergio Leonne took time introducing the characters and gently unfolding their parts in the plot. Not rushed like movies of today where it's over before knowing what it is about .
Greatest movie ever made.. Perfection in every frame
Exactly, you can pick up any frame randomly and it's a piece of art.
Genius. Just subscribed #99! Gonna check all your content out! Bravo!

When my ex early in the relation said 'Most boring movie ever' as a reaction to me saying 'Best movie ever' I should have known better than to continue the relationship, it should have ended right there.......alas, I was a fool. 🤣

The difference between the European and Hollywood-produced film is obvious when it comes to history and narration as well as quality. I think that the European film art is more rooted in reality than the American one.
To me, it's more "pure art" vs "pure fast food". The same for the food culture (yeah, I'm French...)
@@garryiglesias4074if you think it's that black and white you really haven't seen much at all
@@acerazorakjsflasjfka You really haven't seen much at all with such a poor level of comprehension.
well... a key reply from Armonica is "ancient race" before shooting Henri Fonda ... indeed the world has changed. There are people who still belong to the ancient race whereas others belong to the new rone (nation, life standard). The USA are a new country, a new nation, based on business and money, but without history... this is why american people don't really get the point with this movie :)
Best western ever
Why didn’t Frank shoot harmonica as a youngster?
Film complet merci
As good as any non John Ford western gets
Once upon a bloat in the West. Drawn out, tedious, plodding, often incoherent, and in the end it was nothing but one long revenge plot. That's what we waited for? And, sorry, Bronson makes a great supporting cast member but as a lead I find him insufferable. Henry Fonda was wasted in this snooze-fest.
Without the sound tracks this was mundane.
Stick to watching John Wick movies then buddy, you CLEARLY do not understand OR recognise master craftsmen & women at work!!
@@johntooth1886 Sorry, you mean the musical soundrack? Or dialogue as well? You need to do the same to EVERY film then, you make no sense!! Visually, even if you were bloody DEAF, this is clearly a brilliantly shot & edited movie!!
