Only had one occasion to get followers and build an empire(small e) and that was in CM1 Test of the Warlords. Any other time we were either taking over a cavern, a building/complex in a town or something similar. Still had to hire guards and purchase equipment for them and that gets expensive. I started making the other players characters put money into a group fund to finance these things. Of course my characters, usually being thieves, took a smal amount for pay since I was doing the books and all the hiring and purchasing of equipment.
Great video! One of the fighters in our campaign is approaching 9th level and is already working on this aspect of play. We’ve slowly been trying to explore outward from the main civilized areas that we are based out of because a domain must have a set range away from other domains. Generally speaking, we have to clear out a region of all the monsters located within before starting work on the domain too. The trouble the player may have is getting the party to go along with spending multiple sessions of play where all we do is assist with the fighter’s domain project.
@maecenus778 The Fighter really relies on having the castle and domain. It's a huge investment in time and GP. From memory, 1st edition is the only edition to have the domain building as part of the character development. Thanks for watching.
@ForneliusNulland G'day from Australia. I'm glad to be of assistance. I hope you stick around to look over the other content. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Machiolations! I been completely mispronouncing that! Of course all these things have real names... we just always called it the flappy-doory thing. Ha! 😆
Man, this would’ve been really nice to have when I was 12 and trying to DM for my brothers basically whenever I wasn’t at school. Of course that was 30 years ago, so I guess I have to forgive you for that one😂
@robertaylor9218 I appreciate your generosity. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and you check out some of the others. Thanks for the comment and I hope you stick around.
@joewatts2940 Yep. I was there. There are scars that still exist, in its of different ways. I never stopped playing, we never spoke about it, and I certainly couldn't bring any books to school. It was a license to bully. I learned a lot from the game and when I was that skinny teenager nerd, geek, loser... it was a place for me to retreat to. Too much information you might be thinking? We all shared a little of it, back in the day. Another reason I like to do these videos, to get the message out: I still play the game.
@rogerwilco2 Yeah, I know. It just seemed to be louder than usual. I think it was the surface it was on. I'll be definitely working it better next time.
@postalglu6286 It's odd how that happened. The sound just carried a little more than usual. I thought about re-doing it. Then, I thought it would be against my roughish theme and style of production. Thanks. I hope you enjoyed it nonetheless. I'm always open to queries and suggestions of those who watch.

Great video. The background music is a little distracting.

I remember in the 80s, people tried to convince the world that D&D was equal to Satanism

Why so much noise in the background?
Makes the video harder to understand.

Great vid... but the music, while good, is extremely distracting.
