  • An often overlooked part of adding character and pace to a track/spirited road car! So many cars from factory come with engines nerfed by super long gearing but there is often a way to pick and mix oem components to wake things up!
    One thing to note if yo uare swapping the 5 speed out for a 6 speed that I didn't mention in vid is you MUST change to a 6 speed prop shaft too... I found out too late haha!
    Edit: Stage 3 not stage 4 clutch, my bad!

    Arhhh ... I love my 2.5 swap nc2 with 5 speed & 4.1, it's great around Blyton, I'm guessing I could try a 6 speed for Silverstone but hey I'm a novice 🏳🏁 I wouldn't know 😲.

      Excited to see what a properly built 2.5 is like in yours bud! I bet it’s bloody mega!! I wouldn’t rush to do it but maybe at an opportunity when the box needed to come off for another reason it could be worth a go! You are far from a novice mate ☺️🙌

    Is it worth to modify an nc 1.8 or it’s better to change it with a 2.0 and then start the project

    • @CIRCUITDRIVERCARS
      @CIRCUITDRIVERCARS  Рік тому +1

      Such a tricky one but personally, I would start with the 2.0 sport. You can get a lot of enjoyment out of the 1.8 though... I'd make sure it has the LSD before spending big money on coilovers etc... Luckily though if you did find you wanted to go for the 2.0 you could always take off the mods you had put on the 1.8.

      @@CIRCUITDRIVERCARS because I bought in 2018 an nc from 2006 1.8 totally stock for 6 grand . And after 4 years I’ve done just maintenance and the muffler . But when I start thinking about modify for better performance I always change my mind because it has a lot less than the 2.0 , starting from the shifter that has 6 instead of 5 shift , the differential , the power , the sway bar (duomi) and that would be crazy money to add just this things before enjoying better coilovers and everything else .

    Hi there agin I have been looking in to the Diff swap to a 4.1 a lot. Can I ask at 70mph what is the rpm I only ask as I saw a new UA-camr in USA whos swapping in a RX8 4.44 diff. He’s doing this as a part of swapping out his hubs owing to a fracture issue😱.
    Looks scary

    • @CIRCUITDRIVERCARS
      @CIRCUITDRIVERCARS  2 роки тому

      Hi John, oh not sure as I had the 4.1 already in mine and just swapped the gearbox over from the 5 to the 6... Regarding the rpm at 70mph... I sold the car so can't tell you. All I would say is don't worry about it being ott or too high rpm for cruising... It's only a slight improvement over being revolutionary. In 6th cruising at 70mph will feel fine :). We had a 4.7 in an old mk2 mx5 and that was chaos driving all the way to Germany ahha! My MK bike engined kit car was also geared to top out at 118mph.... 6th gear you'd be cruising at 9,000rpm ahhahaa!

    Great video Will - full of info. Totally agree with you about the gearing. I've kept the 4.1 and put in an aftermarket LSD plus a lightened flywheel in with my turbo mk1; so much more crisp on acceleration than a 3.6 or even a 3.9 (although it's a bit buzzy at motorway cruising speeds!). I'd much rather have the extra torque from the better gearing than a quieter car when cruising ¦:¬D
    My organic-faced stage 2 clutch is still holding up but perhaps I don't do so much hooning around as you!!!
    Looking forward to seeing how your mk3 does after the tune......if it's not enough.......they do take well to a turbo!!

      Thanks Phil! Certainly sounds like we are after the same thing/experience haha! Yess incredible how important it is considering how overlooked it is. So many cars are utterly ruined by gearing... the manual v8 m3 being one of them imho! Running into issues at mo with the mk3. An odd misfire hiccup! Currently trashing the love for it 😅🤮

      Mad isn’t it! Maybe just seems like a lot of effort without understanding the benefits! It can be hard to explain it to someone the real world benefit. Much easier to hand them the keys and let them see for themselves!
