Have you built a Challenger 2? Which kit would you buy if you were going to - Rye Field's exemplar (but expensive) kit, Tamiya's easy-to-put-together option or Trumpeter's cheap seats option which requires a bit of graft? Let me know in the comments below!
I actually finished this exact kit today then this video comes out! How strange lol… only complaint I have is the tracks was very brittle and snapped as was trying to fit them.. bodged them back together with thread and ca glue then painted over black lol..
@@aileencorden5540 Interestingly I read one build online who talked about the tracks being too short - the exact opposite problem I had, and my tracks are very flexible....so it seems there is no consistency!
The Trumpeter Challenger 2 Operation Telic version was my first ever real model kit back when I was 13 and my only other experience had been Warhammer. Needless to say it didn’t go well and it took me about 10 years to get back into it. Hearing that this isn’t exactly a prize winning kit does give my younger self a lot of vindication 😅
Hello mr. Mann!very nice job. I hope you had as much fun building as i had watching.keep up the good work and Keep the faith.with best regards and sticky greetings from Brandenburg germany.faithfully yours.your modellmate.christian
This is a budget representation of the challenger 2 . I found the plastic weird turning to a powdery consistency too much talc in the plastic mixture maybe . The clean up is time consuming, I have only got as far as the lower hull running gear. Thank you for the review and the tips . I am making this kit to go in our office at David Browns We overhauled and modified the Challenger 2 gear box . I consider other kits but the cost of just a representation for the office prohibited, this is an early variant of the challenger 90s and is indeed the variant that went to the Ukraine and probably my favourite as I find all that chobum armer unsightly. I look forward to the diarama . As my mates say at work it's only a tank .
Built this year ago...my only issues were ..boxes on turret needed sanding and or bits removed and replaced with plasticard, also hull was concave around turret ring but some 5mm card inside levelled it out...also wheels were wrong so redid them as they were one piece and had no mud drainage holes so drilled them all..added proper cables etc .after painting /weathering turned out better than I expected..they do get battered in r/l so wasnt really that much of issue...seen few with the boxes on turret bashed about
Hi! thanks for this, it confirms my suspicion Heng long on there 1/16th Chally 2 copied the trumpeter 1/35th kit completely. the Gun mantlet is the biggest problem that they unfortunately also copied!. if interested there's a look around at my modified one on my channel, and this isn't meant to be a plug! just thought it might peak your interest. Great stuff!
@@MannsModelMoments actually despite the flaws, I will make it at some point having seen your build. I am also intending to incorporate it in a diorama depicting the fighting in Ukraine. I already have some other vehicles including a Leopard. ICM do some good figures for the tanks.
Model making supposed to be fun ...don't mind a bit of flash but this kit looks like hard work ....not very relaxing lol ...I have only built the airfix tiger and firlefly starter sets as armour so far , what would it recommend for 1/35 armour kit for a novice armour builder ? Any recommendations would be very helpful !
I'd recommend the Tamiya Panzer II to start with - it's a 1971 tooling, but it fits together well and costs less than £10. It's a great kit to move scale with, and although its detail is basic, it makes a decent model. After that I'd try something like one of the Airfix Cromwells, which go together well and have both rubber band and length and link tracks so it's a good kit to move from one to the other. After that most Tamiya 1/35th scale armour is very good, with the majority of kits having good fit. The Acadmey kits reboxed by Airfix are also good to continue with.
What a remarkably ill-informed troll comment. As a UA-camr that's supposed to be a historian, your obvious bias doesn't exactly support your supposed focus.

I loved the RFM kit. A few obnoxius fit issues and missing bits in the instructions, but it just turns out so satisfyingly chunky when it's done.

I haven't yet tried a Chally, but I think I might go with Tamiya. 🤔
@@paulhennessy5627 my understanding is that kit also has accuracy issues, but I believe it goes together well!

Ryefield was excellent with only minor issues. Nice link tracks with templates.
Yes, I've built the Tamiya Chally II (in 1:48th Scale as per usual) fell together.
Ryefield models everything.

I've built the Trumpeter Challenger 2 with it's 410 Prats (yes it does actually say that on the box)
Hahaha - I hadn't noticed that! I guess we should lay off Airfix for their QC a little then? lol
I did the trumpeter challenger up armored version and mine wasnt that bad.
I recently bought this kit in a charity shop for £5. Looks like I was diddled!
@@Mike-mm4mx I think £5 is pretty good despite the kits issues!

@@MannsModelMoments thank you ! Will definitely pick up a Panzer at that price , will make a nice change from my usual 1/48 or 1/72 aircraft:)
I bought this kit in hobbycraft .think it was 20 pound. Opened it up and the plastic was bad . Started to build it then put it back in the box . 😢
I had one of these and started on in wasn’t even half built and I was so tired of fighting it. So bad I binned it and moved on terrible kit!
That kit was so bad Trumpeter replaced it with a better kit (the one with the dozer).
Unfortunately that's the same base tooling...
You'll have to build it with the turret next to the hull. As it's a shit tank, as are all western tanks fighting for the kiev regime.
