Marui was definitely big back in the day. I remember the Marui Big Bear Well. The local hobby shop had one on display and it was definitely something i used to drool over back in the day. But the other two that I remember well is the Samurai and the Coors Thunderbird! I met a guy on a family trip in California that had the Samurai...it looked bad ass in person. The box looks bad ass, but in person it was awesome! And the Coors...I'm sure I can find one of my old RCCA magazines as I'm sure it was featured and I remember the cover of the magazine well. What an incredible kit to have received from the RC Elf! Wow! What an item to have in your collection. Just amazing!
Thank you Freddy! That Coors car is pretty cool looking! I am sure it was a good selling car for them and I know the Big Bear was! It seems to be the most popular of the kits! This is the first Marui I have ever seen in person! I never saw anyone with on back in the day but then again my personal exposure was limited! The RC Elf really floored me with this one for sure and the other two as well! Really wonderful kits and I am so proud to have them in the collection. I am still trying to figure out a wat to display them properly!
@@AddamsPlayground Yeah I'm not sure...definitely be cool to display them in some way but I'm not sure either. With a box like that, I'd want to make sure I don't really touch anything and leave it in the box as is. Unless you have the box open and propped up so you can see both the box cover and the inside? hmmmmm...hard to know what the best option would be.
Adam.... you only live once!! That kit will not follow you to the beyond! Build it! Enjoy it!! Show it!!! You can still preserve it as built. I remember this kit, I passed on an opportunity to buy one in the mid '80's ... I sooo regret it!!!!! It truly is an amazing model!! I hope you change your mind. Because I know you won't regret it.
I know, I can't take it with me. I think it is two things honestly. One it feels like I was gifted a museum piece, like it should remain undisturbed and the way it is. And the other is some of the plastics, from what I have heard and read, were not the greatest 30+ years ago so they are probably very brittle and prone to breaking. I would hate to be half way through the build and snap something and spend the next 6 months to a year searching for a super rare part I will have to pay out the nose for to get in order to finish the build. I am not saying it will not happen, it just won't be right now. It could happen in the future and if it does I will certainly document the build and share it with everyone!
It is some very good Tamiya... I mean Marui box art!! LOL! The tires do look very cool in this on and kind of unique with those large pin spikes that are almost lugs!
I remember these 40 years ago and the performance was very impressive at the time. No doubts many RC fans would like to see these re released. They'd sell heaps of them.
It is a cool little truck! I just have it in me to build it, at least not yet! They would sell like crazy if they re-released them. I am surprised they have not especially with ones like the Bid Bear as it has a huge following!
Marui were every bit as nice as Tamiya IMO. The Galaxy was very nice and it's strange that Tamiya didn't release a roll cage type buggy. Many others did (Hirobo Zerda, Mugan Bulldog, many Kyosho nitros etc).
That is so cool. I've never heard of that company before but my jaw about hit the floor when I saw the pic of the Bill Elliott Coors Thunderbird. They had some cool stuff going for them. The box art and packaging looks so close to Tamiya.
They did not have a ton of kits but they have a pretty big following especially for some of the buggies and the Big Bear! I do like the Nascar also, very cool looking and really scale looking! They definitely "borrowed" a lot of styling queues from Tamiya for sure!! It is a really cool truck and one of these days I may build it. If I do it will be when I have the proper amount of time to devote to it and make the absolute best I can!
My advice Adam is to build it. ELF sent it your way to share with the viewer. Regardless of it's potential monetary value, it was a gift and as pretty as a box is, you've done a nib kit reveal of parts in plastic bags but that's all it is. I don't get the feeling ELF wanted a kit he's had hidden away in hibernation to continue it's existence in that way. Mate, please build it, paint it, drive it and show the viewers what they'd love to see. I promise you, Elf would love to see this kit being built as it should be.
I may build it eventually. The value, in the box or built, is not a concern for me. I would never sell it. It is just really rare to see one in the box and it kind of feels special being that way. I am also worried that something may break while trying to assemble it and then I will be searching for a part the might be extremely difficult to find. From what I have heard the some of the plastics were not that great on this and were prone to breaking almost 40 years ago. I may change my mind and build it eventually. It does have lots of detail it would look good built. The Elf and I talked about the kits once I had opened them and he also had concerns about building such an old kit. Again, not writing it off completely, maybe in the future.
I had one of these , I always wanted a wild willy but this was a little cheaper in Australia. The only thing I didn't like about it was that the speed controller kept sticking in forward position. The 1st time I drove it , it ran out of control across a main road and went under a car. Amazingly it didn't get hit. Thanks for reminding me of some great times especially the build that dad helped me with.
There is not a ton of difference between this and the Wild Willy! The old Mechanical speed controllers were always a bit finicky and risky! For the most part they worked well but when they didn't they never got stuck in neutral so it was going to go forwards or backwards at some rate of speed, usually full throttle into something! I am glad it survived that incident, that would have been and terrible way to start out the RC life with getting run over! I am glad you enjoyed it!
That's Beauty! I remember when i was a kid my brother in law came over with the big bear it was so cool looking! The RC Elf got you some cool kits for sure!
Yes he did, he never ceases to amaze me with the awesome stuff he has sent and I can never thank him enough for all he has done! I am not sure if the big bear was the most produced kit or just the most popular here in the US but it certainly seems to be the most commonly referred to one here in the states. It is a really cool truck and could see why it would be such a big seller over here.
I enjoyed the review. It's a great piece of r/c history. I got involved in r/c cars in the late 80's and early 90's. I don't remember this car, but I remember the Big Bear and Samurai. When I went to the hobby shop I recall seeing the Samurai. I was trying to recall if the Marui cars were more expensive and if that was the reason the couldn't compete with Tamiya. I saw one of these on sale on Ebay. It is new in the box for $700. The Elf, as you know, gave you a great gift. I also learned on Ebay that they made small scale r/c tanks. Thanks fro sharing.
Thanks and it is really an awesome kit and I am super lucky I was chosen to be the keeper of such a wonderful truck! Marui made a ton of various things overt he years and their old catalogs were very interesting to look through. One second you are lookin at pistols and rifles and then RC kits and then transforming happy meal like toys! I really did not get into hobby grade RC until these were one their way out and by then the buggy wars were in full swing and so many companies were making race buggies and companies like Tamiya were dropping kits all the time so for me the Marui lineup was overshadowed by all that. I am gladded you enjoyed the video and I still have a lot to learn about mauri. I am sure there will be more of them in the future on here at some point!
The little CB radio may be what convinces me eventually to build it. There are so many details to paint and embellish on it I think it would look fantastic. For now it will remain in the box. I am mostly worried something will crack or break putting it together and I'll spend months or years hunting for.that replacement part!
Awesome! I knew a vendor that sold those Marui RC’s in the swap meet here in Hawaii. I played a few especially the galaxies, Big bears, and the Shogun. Great looking RC’s, but for me and my friends that had these toys, they weren’t the best in plastics and the engineering was questionable. It was hard to find parts the vendor that sold those toys didn’t even sell parts for it. These little toys are great for just running on the street and great to look at!😀
Thank you! That is my biggest concern with building it is the plastics! I would really hate to be mid way through building it and break a next to impossible part to replace on it! Who knows though, I may build it eventually but for now it stays in the box and I can admire the kit as is. I have plenty of other stuff to work on currently.
Thank you and I cannot thank the Elf enough for sending me this kit to be the keeper of it, I am very happy!!! One of these days i may change my mind and build it who knows!
Thanks for showing Addam. Don't remember Marui made it into our hobby shops. Maybe nobody would give it any chanc here because of the soldering part.🤔 Model ship builders just: 🤣. This is an awesome model and great gift. These scale details are very nice.
Thank Dirk, the details molding to the body and some of the other parts is really cool. I love the little CB radio!! I build it eventually but it will have to be when I feel like I have the time to devote to making it the absolutely the best looking I can make it and take a tone of time making sure I do not break anything putting it together. It sounds like some of the plastics were kind of iffy back than so they are probably very brittle now! With the more and more folks I meet from all over and with knowledge and experience with all sorts of RCs I may get the confidence to build it and know I may be able to track down a broken parts without having to spend a year searching and a small fortune replacing a part to get it finished. We will see but for now it will be one I leave in the box for now!
Thanks brother. One of these days I may break down and build it but I am just concerned about breaking something while building it. These are very old and questionable strength plastics! I would hate to break something and spend the next year looking for a replacement part!
One of these days I may decide to build it but I am just worried about something breaking while trying to build it and then having to hunt for ultra rare parts... For now it stays in the box and maybe one day I build it.
That brings back a lot of memories. Classic!! Great looking rig and I can appreciate teh fact you want to keep it pristine. Thanks for sharing Addam Way to go Rcelf!!!
Thanks! It is a really cool kit and I cannot thank the Elf enough for sending it over to me. I may end up building it down the road at some point, who knows! I am mostly worried about the plastics and breaking something while building it! I may talk myself into it one of these days!
I love my wild willy 2 and will be my stand in for this one!! I may get the gumption up one of these days to build it but for now it'll stay in the box as it is so cool and rare to be in that state!
Man what a golden opportunity and find but I have to vote to at least see it built I understand never running it a man of your talents can build it without any mishaps and just display it I absolutely remember those very iconic truck great vid mate 👊
There is a lot of "encouragement" to build build it out there. I may change my mind. I am just worried that some of the plastics have gotten so brittle they may snap or crack just trying to assemble it. I will think about it and it may get built eventually. For right now it I will leave it as is. but may decide to build it in a little bit. It is hard to want to build it as it has been held onto and kept pristine for almost 40 years now and I feel like I am ruining that by building it, almost like a caretaker that has failed. I know I am overthinking it, we will see!
They had a very broad range of items in the history and are still making airsoft stuff today as far as I know! Some of their old catalogs were very funny to look at, it went from pistols and rifles to RCs to transforming happy meal toys and a ton of other stuff in there as well! I love this kit and one day I may convince myself to build it but for now I will enjoy peeking in the box and enjoying it for what it is, a great time capsule of the mid 80s!
Hi there Addam, a lovely model for sure. I suppose it’s going to depend on how you want take your collection, whether it’s a monetary value or not, although I kind of agree though, that in order to appreciate the beautiful model, it would need to be built up and ready to roll. I suppose at that point, you can decide if you’re going to run it or it will be deemed a shelf queen. Take care and best wishes to you all 😊😊😊
Hi john! The money value is meaningless, being a gift from the Elf and such a rare and unique one it is priceless to me and could never sell it. My biggest fear of building it is getting half way through and snapping a part due to brittle plastics and it sitting there half built for however long it takes me to source a new part for it. At that point I don't have a kit and I don't have a car, I just have a half built thing sitting in a tote waiting for the right part to show up on eBay... The other parts of being gifted something like this is it that it has been looked after and appreciated like this for almost 40 years now and for me to rip it out of the box to build it feels like I failed as the caretaker of it. I know I am probably fretting way too much over a toy truck but it is not a very easy decision when you have it sitting in front of you thinking about all that! I may build it and sounds like almost everyone would love to see it built but I am still on the fence so it is staying in the box for now...
@@AddamsPlayground hi Addam, I appreciate your decision and very valid point of view. It certainly would be a shame to get half way through such a vintage model, only to have to stop, due to a brittle plastic failure. The RC Elf has certainly looked after such a beautiful and rare model. It was lovely to see it still. I support you all the way my friend. Take care and best wishes to you all 😉😊😉
That seems to be the overall chant from the crowd... It may happen eventually just not right now. I have other stuff going on and will have to do some more homework on which parts are the brittle ones before I go diving into it.
I’d never heard of that RC company. Thanks for sharing the knowledge and history. I do enjoy the added bits of text and pics as you review during editing. 😊 Nice to have a NIB. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks Trey! I know not many will be familiar with all of them, if any of them, so I add the images to go along with the video. I appreciate the feedback! I am super honored the Elf chose me to be the keeper of this amazing kit and I may decide to build it down the road at some point but I am concerned about the brittleness of the plastics. I have heard some of them were not that great 30+ years ago so I would have to break a hard or next to impossible to find part while building it!
Thanks! I may end up building it down the road at some point but for now I will leave it as it is and enjoy peeking in the box from time to time! I am just worried about breaking something when putting it together! The plastics, from what I have heard and read, some were not the greatest 30 some years ago so they are probably more brittle and prone to break now. but again, who know what may happen 6 months from now! Gavin is building a Blazing Blazer on his channel so it may happen!
It was a huge surprise and a really tremendous gift!! I cannot thank the Elf enough for this amazing kit and it does look super cool and the box art rivals that of Tamiya (also extremely heavily influenced by Tamiya)! One of these days I may get the nerve to build it!
@@AddamsPlayground Personally I'd just keep NIB. It's too rare right?idk. Also, the Mugen Bulldogs were my top cars I dreamed of owning when they were released back in the day. Even though that never happened I have such fond memories of looking at the ads all the time in my RC magazines lol. I'll catch that vid when out man!
@@Aaron11411 It is rather rare so for now it will remain the way it is! I have the video of the Cox Bandido coming up soon and the Bulldog may be after the new year. The channel is all over the place at the moment with all the excitement and giveaways going ton it is become a blur!! So I am not sure what is coming up next LOL!!
@@AddamsPlayground Sounds great. I only found your channel from recommendation but I already really like it and you're from the US too. RC has no boundaries but I feel a bit distant with watching mostly foreign country channels. Take care!
Properly done bud! Have a few odd ones myself now that I need to do a run-through on. Been a big challenge finding any information. Appreciate the walk through the box contents.
Yeah, I am surprised on how hard it is to find reliable and good information on some of these kits. I guess I am just spoiled with how much is documented about Tamiya RCs! I may build it at some point but for the time being it will continue to live and a cool time capsule of RC kits of the 80s! Take care!!
It is a hard decision to make and I may change my mind later on, who knows! My biggest fear is breaking something when putting it together. I have heard some of the plastics were not the greatest back then so I am sure they are extra brittle now. It would really suck to break something half way through the build and have to hunt down a really hard to find part for months and months. For now it will stay in the box but I will not rule out the possibility of building it in the future.
I am not sure if the big bear was the most produce kit or just the most popular kit as it seems most people that had a Marui had the big bear! It was a cool truck!
Thanks Adam! One of these day I may end up getting the courage to build it! I am mostly worried about the condition of the plastics as I have heard some of them were not the greatest 30 some years ago!
It has a lot of Tamiya to it, even the instructions are similar but changed just enough to not be a complete copy. It is a cool looking kit and I may change my mind in the future and build it, only time will tell. Thanks as always for checking in!!
Awesome Addam I remember these and the other Marui cars from back in the day.. never saw many running. So rare these days. Great overview and kudos once again to the RC Elf for his donation. 👍🚴🤩🏅
Thanks Pete! This is the first one I have ever seen in person! A super rare kit and I may build it someday but I am concerned I may break something building it so I am leery to try it. I would hate to spend the next 6 months trying to track down a really hard to find part to finish it! The Elf was extremely gracious with this kit and the other vintage ones he sent with it. I am beyond grateful and thankful for all he has done for me and the RC community here on YT! He is a true RC hero!
Wow, this looks so cool. RC ELF has sent a lot of stuff to a lot of channels including Robby at Bang 4 Your Buck RC. I've had no interaction with the RC ELF but he is obviously an awesome guy!
The RC Elf is an absolutely amazing person and I truly have been blessed to know him and to have received so many wonderful things from him! You never know what's next with him and where he is going to send his next gift so you you never know.....
Yes, the "borrowed" a lot of styling and design from the Tamiya models. I was hoping to find some dirt on why they just stopped making RCs but I am fairly certain Tamiya had a private conversation with them to stop, that is just my gut feeling since there is nothing documented as to why they stopped!
Thank Jeremy! It really is a cool little snapshot into the past! This is the first Marui I have ever seen in person. One of these days I may build it but for now it will stay in the box.
It's curious that you're talking about Marui. From the people I'm buying old Tamiya's I got a few offers for Marui's rc cars. I don't know if it's worth buying a Marui for collection. Are there lovers who want these models?
They are collectable, some more than others. Some of them have some fairly fragile areas and you will have to do some homework on what those are, I am not well versed in them yet. I know one of the issues with this kit is the rear body mounts, they often break just putting them together! Look for some Marui Facebook groups possibly, it is hit or miss with FB groups on how helpful they may be... I tend to do my own internet scrounging! LOL
Yeah, lets say they borrowed a lot of design ques from Tamiya... like most of them! LOL! I was digging around to try and find the reason they just stopped selling RCs and found nothing. My gut feeling is since there is nothing documented it all happened behind closed doors and Tamiya had a "talk" with them about the glaring similarities and probably had something to do with the quick demise of the RC lineup. Again, just my idea of the situation but who really knows!
Yes, I have not been able to build as it is rare in the unbuilt form and I know how brittle some of the parts can be and do not want anything to break trying to put it together!
Another interesting rc on your channel Addam 🙂👍 i actually owned a Marui airsoft a loong time ago,"witch makes a very specific sound when fired"😉 what movie quote was that btw? Anyway thanks for sharing and have a great weekend!🇸🇪🇺🇸
Thanks and I am truly grateful to the RC Elf for sending this one over to me for me collection! I may change my mind eventually to build it but for now I am leaving it as is. I assume you are asking about the Porky the Pig image I flashed up when stumbling on my words? It was just an old Loony Toons cartoon character that stammered all the time. Hope you have a wonderful weekend as well!
I know that are a few companies that will ship direct like RC Mart and a few others but other than that I would generally go to eBay. You may get better shipping rates on eBay.
It is a really col kit and would be fun to drive I am just worried about things breaking as from what I have heard some of the plastics in these were not the greatest 30+ years ago so I am sure they are very brittle now! I would hate to have a broken truck on display while I search for months and months for a next to impossible to find part to show up on eBay! I will take out the Wild Willy 2 when I need that silly wheelie action in my life! It does a really great job at finding that 10 year old too!
hello could you tell me witch is the Good white color paint ? if we référ to the box it s look more like tamiya racing white than pure white . what white use in notice ? thanks à lot
I agree it is not a bright white look to it so the racing white may be a better choice. Sadly there are not paint codes in the manual, just simple colors listed for the different parts. They leave it up to you to chose a shade. I think something like the racing white or eve a pearl white would look great on there.
It is possible it gets built at some point but for now I am leaving it in the box. It is so rare to have something from almost 40 years ago so well preserved in the box it feels wrong to just build it. If I do build it I doubt I would run it at all. I would stick servos in to mount the esc and the steering but would not run it. Everything I have heard was the plastics were not the strongest back then and after sitting for so long I would run the risk of breaking it putting it together and certainly would not risk running it. These are not something parts are readily available for.
@@AddamsPlayground than ampro could make them for you. You know I am of a mind I don't like shelf queens or would ever keep nib that isn't enjoyable to me. They must be built and run.

Galaxy RS was my first rc car bought in 85’ at Queen Anne Hobby in Seattle. I was 9.
It would have definitely been one that I would have wanted if I saw it in the hobby shop!! I am sure you had a ton of running it all over the place!!
That is one heck of a kit Addam, congrats on having it in the collection! Elf is the man!
@@AddamsPlayground hmm, have you thought of a display model?
Wow, that's an awesome kit, cool overview, would love to have one like that to build
Thanks brother. One of these days I may break down and build it but I am just concerned about breaking something while building it. These are very old and questionable strength plastics! I would hate to break something and spend the next year looking for a replacement part!
That kit is to cool
Thanks Brent! I may build it eventually but for now I will leave it as is but who know, 6 months from now I may decide to build it!
This thing is so awesome.. so cool of the elf to hook you up with this. If I did build it, I couldn’t bring myself to run this rare beast
One of these days I may decide to build it but I am just worried about something breaking while trying to build it and then having to hunt for ultra rare parts... For now it stays in the box and maybe one day I build it.
@@AddamsPlayground I don’t blame you brother
That brings back a lot of memories. Classic!! Great looking rig and I can appreciate teh fact you want to keep it pristine. Thanks for sharing Addam Way to go Rcelf!!!
Thanks! It is a really cool kit and I cannot thank the Elf enough for sending it over to me. I may end up building it down the road at some point, who knows! I am mostly worried about the plastics and breaking something while building it! I may talk myself into it one of these days!
Very cool I I had a lot of fun with my wild willy
I had a g36c assault riffle by marui,if i remember right,that kit looks awesome 👌 very nice 😃👍👍👍
Take care and best wishes to you all 😉😊😉
Build it! Build it! Build it! Build it!
That seems to be the overall chant from the crowd... It may happen eventually just not right now. I have other stuff going on and will have to do some more homework on which parts are the brittle ones before I go diving into it.
Super cool Addam! Thanks for your detailed overview and sharing this with us bud 🙌🏻👍🏻
@@AddamsPlayground maybe a shelfer than a runner dude?
@@theoagrc yeah it would not be a runner! Possibly even display case type of kit!!
Awesome early Christmas gift. Also, I sooo love the old school box art.
Take care!!
Very cool piece of history!
Thanks! It is a really neat little time capsule from years gone by. Hard to believe it is almost 40 years old!!
Nice history lesson on that cool RC! Quite a nice kit!
BTW, I mention you in my latest video, as well as my GHII video. 😉
Cool, thanks!
I know its wrong but l would have to build it as a display piece! Fantastic kit Addam😉👍
My buddy growing up had a big bear.. it would go places my Blackfoot wouldn’t but I was faster with my trinity motor.. marui made some neat stuff
I am not sure if the big bear was the most produce kit or just the most popular kit as it seems most people that had a Marui had the big bear! It was a cool truck!
Awesome! Such a cool rig.
Thanks Adam! One of these day I may end up getting the courage to build it! I am mostly worried about the condition of the plastics as I have heard some of them were not the greatest 30 some years ago!
Love it! Marui great factory of the golden years. Perhaps not so original (I can see some Tamiya and Kyosho). Great catch!
It has a lot of Tamiya to it, even the instructions are similar but changed just enough to not be a complete copy. It is a cool looking kit and I may change my mind in the future and build it, only time will tell. Thanks as always for checking in!!
@@AddamsPlayground Build it!
I've never hard of this brand but they look so much like Tamiya. I don't remember seeing them in Tower Hobbies back in the early to mid 80's.
@@AddamsPlayground that seems very plausible
@@AddamsPlayground no doubt. I know Robby is good friends with him. The Thundercats Lunchbox van he sent him was awesome.
I’ve never seen one of these; it looks great Addam!👍😊
LOL
That's an interesting kit. The box art, all the way to the sides, are similar to Tamiya, too.
@@AddamsPlayground there was a lot of "mobster mentality" going on with businesses in those days (Nintendo), so nothing would surprise me!
@@rcinhand9671 That and Tamiya has always handled their affairs in private, to the point nobody has any idea what they are up to ever!
Great video today a lot of information about the kits i really enjoy your video today great job addam
Thank you Fred! I am glad you are enjoying them! That makes me happy!!
😮😮😮 very rare rc car
I got a random question for you. How do you order a G force into the United States? I would love to get 1
I know that are a few companies that will ship direct like RC Mart and a few others but other than that I would generally go to eBay. You may get better shipping rates on eBay.
That is AWSOME, as much as i would love one of these. I would turn into 10 year old me and run it all over the place. Oulling wheelies everywhere 😎
@@AddamsPlayground yeah, thats one car im tempted to get. You cant beat pulling wheelies😂
Hi' great kit,,
Thank you! One of these days I may break down and build it but for now I will enjoy it as it is.
I’d love to have the golden eagle
It is a cool looking jeep for sure!
@@AddamsPlayground yes it is.
hello could you tell me witch is the Good white color paint ?
if we référ to the box it s look more like tamiya racing white than pure white .
what white use in notice ?
thanks à lot
I agree it is not a bright white look to it so the racing white may be a better choice. Sadly there are not paint codes in the manual, just simple colors listed for the different parts. They leave it up to you to chose a shade. I think something like the racing white or eve a pearl white would look great on there.
Please run it on the track.
1000% not gonna happen...
@@AddamsPlayground thanks for responding fast. But really should build it and run it on the track.😁
They should go back to RC again.
They made some very nice RC cars and I remember them well. Unlikely but I wish they'd re-release some.
Build it please.
@@AddamsPlayground but you could 3d print new parts of they broke.
@@bradkalman2353 not the same and I can't design that well! IF it gets built it will not be driven.
@@AddamsPlayground than ampro could make them for you. You know I am of a mind I don't like shelf queens or would ever keep nib that isn't enjoyable to me. They must be built and run.
