Cantopop is a genre of pop music written in standard Chinese and sung in Cantonese. It originated in the 1970s in Hong Kong, very colloquial at the start, and continues to evolve, captivating audiences with its blend of Western influences and heartfelt lyrics. Hong Kong remains its significant hub and there are many talented singers in Hong Kong doing different genres of Cantopop. 🎤🌟Cantopop also put a big emphasis on lyrics. For example, the MV that was played in the interview was "Warrior" by Mirror. It is an anthem of resilience. It inspires people to march forward fearlessly, overcoming any obstacles in our path. 🎤🌟

I originally didn't really have an interest in "the latest boy band," but they have done something intangible for Hong Kong that I am very grateful for. They have been a source of positivity for a city that has been wallowing in negativity, some would argue Hong Kong has been wallowing needlessly and others argue it is justified. In the end, no matter our opinions, things happen, we must move on and MIRROR has my gratitude for helping millions of Hong Kongers do exactly that. For that alone, I consider them one of Hong Kong's most valuable assets.

i can't agree with you more ! 🥲❤ i don't even follow what they do , but i'm always grateful to their good influence on us HongKongers when we're in one of the darkest moments in our lives . when everybody's feeling gloomy , sad , dull , when we couldn't see the end of the pandemic ... we saw them as our lighthouse . i saw a line of people standing opposite to the big screen of Sogo in Causeway Bay , waiting to record the TV advertisements starring member or members of them . i saw young girls running on the pavement holding up their phones , & the reason was that they wanted to take pictures of the MIRROR on that particular tram moving . i saw us HongKongers gathering at Causeway Bay in April , to celebrate the birthday of our Keung To , who's such a humble , simple , cute , chubby young man , who wasn't a heartthrob at all in his early days , who has gone through difficult times of losing someone when he's just so young ...... the reason why we weren't be any worse in that time , part of it no doubt is them MIRROR . even though i'm just a simple HongKonger who doesn't follow what they do at all , i benefit from their existence , the positive vibe they have been bringing us . & because of that , i'll b always grateful to them & wish them all the best ! thank you for posting this message , i can't agree with you any more . 🙂

Hong Kong does not have the money and resources like Korea, where companies can start training their apprentices at a very young age. Therefore Mirror did not receive professional dance and artist training, but they work very hard to catch up on an international level.
Their efforts need to be recognized, and they totally deserved more!

Thanks for having Mirror. It’s my first time seeing Cantopop singers on CNN. Wonderful 👍. As Anson Lo said they sing for people who look for positivity and happiness, we feel so blessed to have Mirror who have given us energy esp when we have been facing different difficult times in life.
They were nobody a few years ago. But they have tried really hard to equip themselves and overcome various challenges, and now they have walked far and even come to the US to promote and introduce Cantopop to the world. This is amazing. Mirror has proved to us that “Nothing is impossible.” And they are an encouraging story!
Do check out their new song “Day 0”, and many of their previous songs are brilliant too. Highly recommend “Warrior”. It’s a song of energy and positivity! 🔥

frankly....to be blunt....I found ALL current 21st century cantopop to be a big flop, including this so-called "famous" "band" (for the record I thumbed down this video)....especially since the ominous year 2020....almost devoid of substance....no substance at all....typical commie hollowness (or what you american called chicom) as empty as worthless ALL mainlander lousy "songs"....I missed the 80's & 90's cantopop....and now flocked to J-pop, K-pop and even Taiwanese pop in spoken taiwanese (which differ from spoken cantonese such that I need written chinese characters subtitles to understand it)

@@nt351cal Apparently they are phenomenal in Hong Kong, the old Cantopop is gold but the music scene is evolving. I appreciate how their music incorporate different elements and styles but still contain the Cantopop element of being lyric-focused - their songs carry positive messages about self-awareness, breakthrough during tough times, and staying true to oneself.
