    One of my high school teachers used letter signs as we went over answers to multiple choice problems. There was a lot less "D or B" confusion after that lol

    You are a wonderful teacher, for the young and old. I'm 32 & trying to learn sign language for the first time. I would watch a thousand more videos if you had them, you make it easy and fun. Thank you!! 😊❤

    Coming to this in 2022 as an after school educator with my first nonverbal student, this is incredibly accessable, and I wanted to say thank you!

    I love this video. I teach one year olds and I’m teaching them more and more sign language. One of my students has a deaf parent so she mainly communicates through sign language. Since I’ve started speaking to her in ASL her little personality has just come out. ❤️

    Thank you for this. My son has speech delay but he has taken visual learning so well. Thus, he picks up sign language fast. The only sign from this video I never understood was “wait.” when I’m frustrated multitasking with my son, it’s so difficult to sign “wait” and get the sign across. It doesn’t seem like it means “wait.” That’s just me but maybe “wait” can be a different sign. it is what it is now.

    I wish I knew "sorry" last week. A deaf dude was taking up the whole seat on the bus and I thought he was ignoring me, so I tap him on the shoulder and said "these seats are for two" moving my hands as I normally do, and I don't know what I may have said in sign language but he was really pissed off at me. Whoops!

    That was great thank you. Some of the signs I already use, however I will definitely incorporate yes, no and wait.On a side note your classroom looks so inviting and student friendly would you happen to have a classroom set up video that you can share?

    Great video! Looking forward to the next video of signs!
    The props and costume for career day, did the students bring that in or did you provide them?
    Also, not sure if I remember from your classroom tour but do you have a dramatic play center? How to you incorporate more play into your day (besides recess)?
    Tips for hallway procedures, lineup and walking in hall?
    Thanks!

    Yikes, 1. Please don't sign and talk. And, don't use
    Pidgin sign from Signed Exact English like 'Restroom'. In standard ASL it is 'toilet'.

      Thank you for the feedback. I am not a trained ASL teacher, I just did my best to teach my students something new. So for restroom, would you use the letter t hand shape?

    • @hannahpchism
      @hannahpchism 5 років тому +3

      The Rogers In Motion it’s “t” and you shake it like you did for restroom

      The purpose for this is not to teach proper ASL as a language, it is to be used as a tool to teach hearing kids and make life easier but at the same time provide a base skill they can use and improve in the future. Besides when teaching basics what is wrong with speaking the words then phasing them out? I sign and sing during worship, do you consider that “wrong”?

      @@ciannacoleman5125 ASL has different grammar than English. Aside from it being culturally insensitive. You can't speak 2 languages at once without dominating the other language and changing it to improper grammar. Think about it. If you tried to speak Spanish and English at the same time it would be improper Grammar. Get some training before you start interpreting. It takes 2 years just to get certified in learning the language and then another 2 years to learn how to interpret. And, that can be with or without full culture classes. It's important to be culturally sensitive when using some other culture's language. Don't you think? Personally I feel people are talking down to me when they sign and speak. I luckily have the ability to speak; I just can't hear all the time. I don't need you to explain your voice to me.
