Makes sense. Your operation and use of technology are truly amazing! I hay a small hill farm in VT and make grass hay for horses. I think I'm doing good when I get 3000 bales in the barn!
We bale alfalfa like that all the time I stack it and just let it be for a couple weeks and it’s good to go. I’m in SE New Mexico. You have a really cool operation and I enjoy watching it.
Haven't seen your mowing operation but we found with rubber crimpers on the mower they wear down and we tighten every 500-600 acres to keep a good crimp.
That is some set up. It amazes me how much small bale hay is made in the US there must be a lot of horses to feed. Here in the UK most is large bales. Don’t think anybody has a dryer like that but some may use a drying floor. Then you have Trevor bales with steamers in front of the baler adding moisture 😂
Very impressive!! Dropping 6 points on a 10 minute cycle. Those Chinooks are built just a few hours from my place, but can’t quite justify the coin yet…….
Second crop Hay is staying wetter longer this summer, at least out west, the fire smoke & a early spring made for some big second crops & hot but not windy days. Older hay & hot humid days that don’t push moisture… interesting to see the whole country experience the same factors slightly differently
So what does one of them dryers cost? Using diesel fuel for heat and to run the engines for the fans to force the air?Making nice dry hay in west central Minn has been pretty much none existent this year haven't cut most of 2nd cutting yet, and normally we would be a week away from 3rd...rains ever 3-4 days and now we are having heavy dews and high temps in the 70s for the next 2 weeks. I will rot before it even gets dry
Some years it just seems impossible to find a window!! They are north of 340 each by the time you get them delivered and installed. They are a significant investment
Yep. It’s a pretty easy calculation. Diesel used per hour, operator cost, telehandler cost, and then divided by bales per hour which just varies on starting moisture
Is there a quality or dollars and cents intersection percentage where you would opt to use the additive to aid in the drying versus firing up the drying operation? What is that percentage and how profitable is this?
How do you operate the swivel on the bail grab? Is there enough functions on the newer JCB controls? when I put my none swivel flat 3 bail grab on my JCB it uses all the available hydraulics
Wow, the cost!!, you experimented with rebaling from big squares and rounds. To never drag a small baler or bale Barron thru the field may be worth the costs of rebaling with no drying
@@FarmingInsider oh absolutely not. But you can with a round baler and not care if they get rained on. Your channel is a complete education for me. Many thanks
My question is; why small square bails??? Are you saying that a square bail machine can feed more feet of hay per hour that a larger 4x4 round maching? Seems like you could reduce the number of tractors & cost (less fuel, less help and less equipment) by changing.
I've found that fertility levels affect dry time and cause the green stems that don't dry. It seems when we put too much potash on at a time it gets worse.
Unfortuntately, just because it's dried it doesn't just increase the sale price over and above sun cured hay but if it allows us to increase the quality then yes we can sell it for more. With grass, it mostly just increases the amount of dry hay we can make. With Alfalfa it absolutely allows us to increase sales price with better leaf retention and higher feed value
Your operation, the scale is just….. wow.
Looks like a well oiled machine. Impressive.
Keep the videos coming. Be safe.
Thanks, will do!
Really enjoyed this video on agriculture technology. The machinery looks so high-tech and efficient.

That’s a good day!
Absolutely love seeing this much productivity!
Us too! Thanks for tuning in!
Hello from ND. Great drone footage and interesting to see how the dryers work. Keep up the good work
Hey! Thank you for tuning in!
Fantastic kit anywhere you look. I have had a horrible season on my farm in South Iceland, the only dry hay I'll see this winter is on UA-cam.
Tough to hear :( lots of rainfall?
Yep, barely been more than two dry days in a row all summer, but the silage wrap saves a lot even though it's expensive.
Those dryers are freaking awesome. Keep up the great videos
Thank you!
Amazing setup and operation!
Thank you!
You guys haying operation is very impressive 👍
Thank you!
Those dryers are awesome, hope that barn gets done to store all that hay
Us too!!
❤ Thats a mighty amount of hay nice job drier is a great idea 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Greetings from the Netherlands, my mouth dropped🙃
I just love a good orchestration, even if I don't need it.

Thanks for tuning in James! We don’t seem to get away with stem moisture very much around here
Nice operation!
Thank you Peter!
very interesting and useful, the scenery is very beautiful
Thank you very much!
Love this videos
Thank you!
Man that's a lot of rehandling! 😳
Yeah, would be super nice to have a roof and just stack it on the other side of the barn 😅 oh well. Something to look forward to in the future
Haven't seen your mowing operation but we found with rubber crimpers on the mower they wear down and we tighten every 500-600 acres to keep a good crimp.
We have steel tri lobes but we did realize we needed to make some adjustments

Yes, isn’t it crazy how different regions can be?
thats some video and great to see all those massey s
Thanks 👍
Nice Hat!!
Gotta rep Barber Equipment and Marcrest
Pretty amazing.
Thanks for tuning in!
Good to see you out doing some work oh never mind that didn't last long back to management
Someone has to film lol
@@FarmingInsider yeah lol nice set up tho you did my entire season of bales in one weekend
Great to see all those Masseys I’ve been a Massey guy all my life it’s all we have ever used.
Bende massey ciyim Türkiye
They have treated us well!
Awesome, all Massey... not a green machine in sight.
Only green machine is my dad raking I believe in this video. A little 5075
Very impressive!! Dropping 6 points on a 10 minute cycle. Those Chinooks are built just a few hours from my place, but can’t quite justify the coin yet…….
They work really well
Good video.
Thank you!!
Great video. Keep them coming!

We all battle plenty of issues haha. Nothing about this game is easy, anywhere
quality video for a quality product
Man, thanks so much!
I see a different moisture meter...Agreto? If i was going to get a new one is that the one? Thanks for another awesome video!!
Yes. We really like it. It came with the dryers
The edits 😂
You like them? Haha
@@FarmingInsider 💯

We have ours on order for this spring. Have you ever broken down cost per bale of operation. Fuel consumption per bale etc etc.
Yep. It’s a pretty easy calculation. Diesel used per hour, operator cost, telehandler cost, and then divided by bales per hour which just varies on starting moisture
Epic day of baling. How big is the new hay shed gonna be over those dryers?
It’s gonna be 180x300
Is there a quality or dollars and cents intersection percentage where you would opt to use the additive to aid in the drying versus firing up the drying operation? What is that percentage and how profitable is this?
I'd rather not publicly discuss this quite yet until we have more experience with the dryers and their capabilities
It’s been a pain this year to get hay dry. In southern Illinois the humidity is so high.
This summer hasn’t been easy.
Great video as usual, but i've always wondered why dont you make bigger bales?
It's just our industry standard. Our market is 40-50 lb 2 string bales. It's where we see the most premium on sales
How do you operate the swivel on the bail grab? Is there enough functions on the newer JCB controls? when I put my none swivel flat 3 bail grab on my JCB it uses all the available hydraulics
Do you crimp the hay as you mow it ? Using a conditioner windrower saves a day to bale normally.
Yes, we do condition as best we can
what is the green bags on the twine boxs for
how much does having to dry the bales add to the cost, is it a big expense?
Have you ever tried liquid preserve for moisture protection
No
Have you guys ever tried the swing max from marcrest?
We have not
@@FarmingInsider would you consider trying them?
😍👍😎
What's the bottom line . How much is the cost per bale
Why not run in baler moisture meters? Do you believe probes are more accurate?
Hello do you sell this hay and do you export it to other countries?
How many small hay bales do you get per acre on one cut?
Never would have thought only 10 min to dry from 20% to 12% how many probes are in each bale?
It does a good job. Honestly, I’m not sure how many probes. I need to count
Wow, the cost!!, you experimented with rebaling from big squares and rounds. To never drag a small baler or bale Barron thru the field may be worth the costs of rebaling with no drying
You think you can bale large squares wet? lol
@@FarmingInsider oh absolutely not. But you can with a round baler and not care if they get rained on. Your channel is a complete education for me. Many thanks
When will marcrest give you a new small square baler demo??
My question is; why small square bails??? Are you saying that a square bail machine can feed more feet of hay per hour that a larger 4x4 round maching? Seems like you could reduce the number of tractors & cost (less fuel, less help and less equipment) by changing.
I've found that fertility levels affect dry time and cause the green stems that don't dry. It seems when we put too much potash on at a time it gets worse.
Hmm, excellent observation. I’ll have to think about that correlation
The whole drying process adds an extra layer of work/expense for your product. So is dried hay more expensive than hay that is naturally dried?
Unfortuntately, just because it's dried it doesn't just increase the sale price over and above sun cured hay but if it allows us to increase the quality then yes we can sell it for more. With grass, it mostly just increases the amount of dry hay we can make. With Alfalfa it absolutely allows us to increase sales price with better leaf retention and higher feed value
Oh my! I'm in the wrong country (New Zealand)
Nope ill stick with round bales and a wrapper 😂 never checked hay moister in my life
How many bales a year do you guys produce!? Love the videos!
Thank you. I’m not sure. We add acres every year so I’ll let you know the end of this year
What the Hay is going on ?
do you sale hay
We sure do!
@@FarmingInsider ok
how many bales do you sale a year
I’m amazed you don’t have the Barrons attached to the balers.
We would need 4 more barons
Where is pop's, come on.
SPEAK SLOWER, FROM THE UK
Video to short
Haha well thank you
Saveca tone of money by letting the sun drycit... Talk about just begging to waste money/time and energy... But it's good for the shit show...
We would probably be so much better off if you were in charge of us
Over dramatized nonsense
Thanks for watching!
Ya that's literally fuck all
