Cooking with "leftover" Wine

  • Have you ever thrown out leftover wine? I have a fantastic solution, especially if you love to cook or know someone who does.
This doesn't happen to everyone but often we have wine leftover from the weekend. Instead of letting it go bad (my husband and I try not to drink during the week) I freeze it for future recipes that call for wine. This also works for vegetable, beef and chicken broth, especially if it is leftover from a previous recipe or about to expire. So smart!
Red wine is great for beef, chorizo and desserts. White wine for pork, chicken and fish dishes. I love to put a couple cubes in my crockpot beef stew recipe.
The best option is to use silicone bourbon ice cube size trays. I measure out 1/4 cup of wine per slot so I can easily measure out what is needed for recipes. You can go right from the tray into the recipe, no need to thaw it out.
I love the one from Crate & Barrell that has a lid. You can find cheaper options but the lid is very handy and keeps the cubes clean.

This is just a quick tip and I hope you enjoy this fun trick.
