Exactly what I was thinking about rn. Your streak in uploading exactly what I asked for just mere minutes to hours before the video is uploaded is actually unreal wth.
One old commander that was a bit boring when it came out, but got better since then is Skullbriar. It keeps counters as it changes zones (except hand and library). When it came out, it was just +1/+1 counters, but now it also works with Fly counters, Lifelink counters, Indestructible counters, etc. It's fun to build.
One notable mechanic from recent sets that could be big for Pharika are cards that trigger from you committing a crime, as Pharika’s activated ability fulfills it every time it targets an opponent’s graveyard.
Kaho makes a really interesting infect commander and proliferate got a lot of tools to make it really viable. Tutor up prologue to phyresis and get going before the table kills you! I recently built a Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge deck and with the synergy for exile-casting from the past two years she's very strong.
With feed the pack, you can also then re cast your commander the next turn after swinging with the wolves to devour them all to make an even bigger army of wolves!
Love the idea of Thromok... He can be a 1/1, a 4/4, a 9/9, a 16/16, a 25/25, a 36/36, etc., etc. I need to make a deck for him, it just always felt so vulnerable....
I had one. It's all about getting haste and trample, or sacrificing him the turn he comes down. You almost never get to untap with your giant commander.
As a long time Pharika lover, some other pieces of neat tech are the black and green runes from Kaldheim. Great for boosting Pharika into a more lethal threat and won't ever fall off as she switches between being a creature and a noncreature. The same can be said for keyword counters. Crimes work really well. I was an early adopter of Desecrated Tomb with Pharika as just more ways to ooze value from each of her activations. I long waited for the trickle of this brand of graveyard value/synergy piece to come. The free commander spells don't specify that you need a creature, just a commander. Pharika as an enchantment is still the commander.
Love revisiting old commanders. Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun used to not have enough with Go Tall Tokens in his colors. It was Benthic Anomaly in MH3 that made me reexamine him.
I've been building "leave graveyard" deck and was wondering who should I use as a commander and what total colours. My pics were pharika, the legendary troll I forgot the name of with scavenge and Khaga shadow archdruid for golgari Grul partner commander that creates tokens with the orzhov partner commander to created 4 colour leave graveyard deck I was also looking at the new Coram for jund colors but just red doesn't have enough but Boros from strixhaven (in the 4 colour one) are great. I want the deck to be focused but I also want all the cool cards.
Hmmm. I put together a list with Dr. Madison Lit that's UW, but which also run significant Red color support (almost entirely for the commander). It also runs Bobblehads, making any color. It also runs giant artifact creatures to close the game out with. Thus, Lux Artillery makes the already-giant artifact creatures terrifying. Nice find!
Kaho, Minamo historian can cast Inevitable Betrayal for 0 mana immediately, rather than waiting for suspend - untap him several times via shenanigans and steal every good creature straight out of your opponents' decks.
When Inevitable Betrayal resolves (from being cast using Kaho's ability), the card goes to the graveyard. So, you can't recast it multiple times, unless I'm misunderstanding what you're proposing. The bigger issue is Inevitable Betrayal is a Sorcery and Kaho tutors/casts Instants.
I gotta build Thromok. I’ve been thinking about it on and off for years. I’m thinking especially about the Riot enchantments like Rhythm of the Wild and Uncivil Unrest, and I really dig Feed the Pack. ✌️
I gotta say, what drew me originally to your channel was your "10 cards you should be putting in your commander decks" videos and how you would dredge up all these older quirky gems. Then when you shifted more towards highlighting new commanders/ nEw mUsT hAvE cArDs 😂i sorta tuned out your videos for a while. But I 100% stand with your take on how power creep has gotten so overwhelming/ out of hand and your decision to not buy new cards anymore. Amen brother, here's to you helping us find ways to still enjoy this wonderful game without feeding the MOAR POWER MOAR POWER GIMME GIMME GIMME cash cow "rotating commander format" that Wizards has become! P.S. I would love to see you make a video giving your thoughts and ideas on the "PreDH" format.
I built Izoni Center of Web when MKM released. It was exactly the same build around than Pharika : exiling cards from your own Graveyard to benefit from cards like tormod, the crypt that makes bats, etc. I might try pharika as the leader of the deck to change things up (also making it 3 mana chaper to cast)
43 creatures is the *most* you’ve ever put in a creature-focused deck?! I’m regularly well into the 50s for my creature-based decks like Teysa Karlov (55 there, and that’s even with 38 lands)
Thromok has always killed it for me. Squared power is already a lot, but rush of blood with a copy on top of it with trample, killer and easy to achieve in RG
@@edhdeckbuilding It’s a lot of effort to be different to be building and playing a relatively fun and unique Commander like Thromak to just have everyone rolling their eyes at the end when you play All Will Be One. I think the only deck I have where I run All Will Be One is Voja, because if you’re playing Voja, everyone is playing high power decks (or you’re “that guy”) one tier below CEDH.
@@Dragon_Fyre It's not even remotely stepping away from normal Thromok decks though, it's as synergistic of a commander you can possibly get with the enchantment. "Stealing the Win" was a video talking about using staples wincons that explicitly don't care about what your deck is doing "because it's good". AWBO specifically works with everything you're doing in this deck in the first place and thus wouldn't fit that criteria regardless of how you utilize Thromok's Devour ability
@@guyatanosavia8487 I understand that but very few players would care about that distinction. The moment I ever see a Millennium Calendar, I know the deck is just a draw engine to play All Will Be One. Sure, it ‘could’ be creative… but it won’t be…
@@Dragon_Fyre i don't think it's an eyeroll at all. it perfectly synergizes with your commander, it might not even kill anyone if your commander isn't big enough. and it can at best kill one opponent. it would be no different then someone one-shotting you with their giant thromok.
I'd like to build a commander deck with only retro frame cards since there are now so much cards available with that, but it's hard to get a feeling what a good strategy/commander/colour combination for that would be; availability and so on. Any suggestions for a deck like this? I don't want to buy the Urza or Mishra precons btw :)
Of course, it sucks when he expresses his opinion and criticizes current magic. MTG should be an echo chamber where no content creators says anything bad about new cards being released... Hope you can read the sarcasm there. Current day magic has a real problem with power creep and poor card design and Demo is the only creator I can think of who is actually talking about it. The last thing we need are people like you trying to motivate him to stop doing it. More people need to address WOTCs new design philosophies.
I think both are good. If people don't make their voices heard, the issues WOTC has will continue. Demo makes a great point about WOTC hurting themselves by printing for commander. When a Modern set has more to do with Commander than Modern, that's an issue for the game as a whole - and I only play Commander. The health of the game and the long-term viability of it are at the heart of all players, and when WOTC makes decisions that hurt the game it is important they hear about it.

Now with those 30 wolves got can recast Thromok next turn and get 30(30) +1/+1 counters on him. And then sac him to get exponentially more tokens if 30 wasn't enough
I love your videos and we have extremely similar philosophies on deck building but every time i watch your videos i just think "hell yeah, parkway drive"
As one of the 5 Thromok players, she is a seriously great commander. These is no better feeling then summoning a 112/112 and casting Chardra's Ignition to kill the entire table.
I just wish Thromok was Jund... Devour is my favorite and he just skips too many of the cool devour synergy cards without black so he's better in the 99 of Prossh. But one day I will have a true Jund Devour commander. >:)
Pharika with Tainted Aeither, Dingus Staff, Compost and Bereavement will never not be amazing. Chuck in a Virulent Plague or Illness in the Ranks and it becomes brutal. The deck becomes this kind of Grismold clone but with alot more "stax" pieces and creature hate.
My only issue with Kaho is that she has a habit of being very… linear. And she pretty much wants to be played as a combo commander so if you don’t go for tutor combo she can kinda feel a little weak at times.
