Just wanted to comment here to proudly share that, 6 days from now, I will have been sober for 4 years.
Congrats! It's around 12 years now for me. The thing that kept me going was trying to be a better father than my own has been. To break the cycle of 3 generations of alcoholic dads.
3 years for me!!! Congrats!
I’m 33 years sober, and it says it all that I know it, without even thinking. Addiction is shit, if only the information was as easy to give out as the drinks that start it all off were to dish out! Ie just don’t start, ‘cos it never really goes away, confirmed by the fact that we all bloody know when we stopped, but probably don’t recall with that accuracy, when it started!
I'm really so proud of you!!!
Congratulations that a great achievement ☺️✌🏻
I wasn't sure what to make of this channel at first but am pleased to say that you won me over. Having the opportunity to see your view of matters often not discussed (such as mental health) is refreshing. Well done.
Are you kidding me? Every man and his dog has a ‘please pity me story’ especially people of fame.
@zaddymac4768 I've never noticed an element of "please pity me" in these uploads. Maybe the possibility that you have suggests an incapacity to interpret the uploads in a relevant manner. It's 2023. Perspectives have changed about such matters. You are entitled to have disagreed with my comment, of course. Perhaps the question is why you find such a perspective disagreeable.
You’re a gay and a lame and I’m a buff and a cool that’s why
You’re**. Do you know how to spell? 😂😂😂
I was diddled as a kid by your mums boyfriend so I don’t hear anything adjectivally
Always a fan of Darkness! Love that your so casual and real❤
I just found your channel and I'm so happy I did.
Welcome!
Love your reactions and your knowledge of music. Also the laughs. 😊
Love Comments Day!
That statue pose was so freakin perfect. Brought back some memories. Along with with a nice chuckle.
👍
Justin, I had the pleasure of eating breakfast across the room from you in the Mandrake last week! 😆 Would love to have introduced myself, but I didn't want to be 'that guy'. Big fan, all the best!
That first pose was more like a Freemans catalogue model 😃
I keep saying it, Justin could do knitting patterns with that physique.
I'd have to think Queen would be even bigger than they already are/were if they were starting in the this modern age. Especially with the openness/acceptance of people's personal choices compared to what they were when they were kicking ass. I would like to think Freddie would have been able to be even more of himself, not that he was ever apologetic for who he was, but could you imagine a "totally free" Freddie Mercury?!?! Could you imagine what Freddie could have been without the restrictions of his day. He would have been even more at the forefront of multiple movements.
...And on a personal note, I would be able to go to every one of their concerts when they were near me. ...What I wouldn't give just to see them live one time....
And we would have lost a lot of great music by Fred. A man having to live muliple lives. If that were to be, there would be no Bohemian Rhapsody, or Killer Queen...etc.
And we wouldn't have got alot of the great bands we have from Metallica & GnR to Trivium and The Darkness.
@@EROCK611 that definitely crossed my mind and I totally agree. From pain comes beauty.
It's just fun to think, what if? I'd still like to think a true artist like Freddie would have found a way to thrive and inspire. Maybe we would all be subscribed to something like "Freddie Mercury Rides Again." Seriously, how cool would that be?
...I just love Queen and especially Freddie Mercury.
That picture on the wall is a big NO for my sleeping space. Love your channel, and especially these comment segments. ❤
When your first album came out, I mocked a co-worker relentlessly for listening to what I thought was garbage, randomly singing falsetto "just listen to the rhythm of my heart". Your channel made me give it another go, and I listened to all the albums. I was horribly, horribly wrong (I did the same thing with The Beatles, so it's not the first time). So, if my old co-worker is reading this, I apologize for my past ignorant ways.
If it makes you feel better, I saw the pilot episode of Friends when it aired and declared it to be so bad that it certain to be a mid-season replacement. Probably the most wrong I have been my entire life
@@jcabelair7749 Yeah, similar to story behind Cheers: pilot episode (first few episodes) bombed. Cheers was almost canceled due to low initial ratings and interest; then it caught on.
@@jcabelair7749it wasn't cancelled, it is a shit show however
Did you mock someone for liking The Beatles or just think they were garbage?
@@CalumKenny I mocked my dad, he overheard me listening to Metallica in the 80s and said "that's not real music, here's real music" and proceeded to play every Beatles LP and 45s he had. I didn't appreciate them until I was older and started playing music myself.
On posh chords; I've always loved when Sting first met Andy Summers he was impressed because he was playing 'expensive chords' such a lovely way of putting it.
I love your videos sm Justin, so informative on how you view other types of music
Oh my god that pose with your hitched (way) up leg, thumb in the pocket and middle distance stare was comedy gold.
The new mic/recorder thingy is doing an amazing job
My producer tried it out for the time this week!
Hi Mr. Hawkins!
I thought I'd let you know that at approximately 21:50 est on Saturday 16 September 2023 while parking my car on a lot off of Pine Street in Providence Rhode Island USA, I heard a band TRYING to play and sing I Believe In A Thing Called Love.
I couldn't believe it they weren't even close, but they DID give it a good try!🎉
17:38 Nice "wind instrument" today for the theme tune outro☕️ 🤣🤣🤣
It's great that you plan to do more comments day!!!🫶
The best Jussy's instrument is his voice.
Can confirm! Get you a ticket for a Darkness show! It will be the best night in a long time!
Justin, did you get married this week? New ring, I see! Inquiring minds want to know! 😁💜 Love watching your take on things, thank you... I always get a good chuckle with your sense of humor. Thank you!
Wow what good viewing! I had to watch it again to see the ring that you say...but i am a little blind 😂.
I was yesterday in one of my best friends' wedding, and now is possible that my best Justin got marry too... What a week! 🎉
If it was in that way, congrats from your people !!!
That’s dedication to this channel and his viewers, doing comments day on his honeymoon. 😮
@@CJ-oi7zm lol
@@CJ-oi7zm I don't know for sure that he did get married. I do know that he has a new gold ring on his finger... 🙂 one that hasn't been sized yet. 🤷🏻♀️ If so, Justin, congrats from America!
Hey Justin. Absolutely LOVE Speed Of The Nite Time and other Motorhead bonus tracks (You Don't Have To Be Crazy..., It's a Love Thang and So Long)...they make a brilliant 4-song repeat loop. So much joy, they have brought!
Would love to see you live ❤🇨🇦 congrats on the tour ✌🏻
And Australia in Feb! Yip!!!
I've always loved you and the Darkness, and when I discovered this channel I just loved you and your reviews even more! Thanks Justin ❤
Good to hear comments day thanks mate. You are wearing a ring/band on your left hand wedding ring finger. Is this for a special reason? There will be some members of your listenership who might want to have a little cry, if this is a ring of major significance. If so, huge congratulations! x
I am lovin' the "tea sip" variant of your theme! As always, your video perked me up (pun intended) and put me in a happy mood. Thank you Justin.
Can't wait to get my copy of the 20th anniversary edition of Permission to Land! Saw you 20 years ago in Glasgow and coming to see you again this year...it's going to be awesome! Will be extra amazing if you do VIP experiences in the UK gigs, as I'd love to meet you all...keep up the great work Justin!
Hope you're having fun in London!
Oh that pose is EVERYTHING!! I've always been a big fan of the one foot on the monitor, guitar stance - not as easy to pull off as it sounds - all about the pants.
Statue of Justin needs to happen in Lowestoft - can we crowd fund this?
What a fun comments day! Hope you're having a lovely time in London. I don't know why, but it amuses me that the colour of your coffee cup matches the accents in the hotel room (i know it's purposeful, but still). In a way you kind of do too with the green 😆
Can’t wait to see you in Feb in Melbourne, Justin! Thank you for not touring any earlier (unlike Foo Fighters) as my first baby is due around Christmas time 😂😂 I’ll be ready to rock for you guys!
Ahhhh! The art in that room is terrifying! How did you sleep?
Thanks for your work on this fantastic channel! I always trip over my feet running to tap that notification.
I actually have a question for Comments Day, maybe? My husband and I are super excited to be seeing The Darkness in Philly in October (my first VIP!) and it got us thinking - what is the coolest thing that's ever happened during one of your live shows? And alternatively, what is the worst thing you can recall happening during a show?
Yay! Good to see 'Comments Day' back ❤
There can be no greater honor as a writer than having my typo read out to the world by Justin Hawkins (and my dumb question answered). A moment this skin tube shall dine on for weeks! Thanks
I remember that comment, and I think I replied with a list of some of my picks. That was a really good comment.
Really? No greater honor…. 🤦♂️
@johnthompson5287 you ok buddy? Who hurt you 😂
@@MurdoT860the Pulitzer has really gone downhill, and JHRA is trending up
That was a great question. I'd add Ren to the playlist.
Great Stuff!! Justin is a real breath of fresh air!!!
We have a new kitten in the house, Justin and the last version of your theme song in this video made her takeoff sprinting out of the room. Lol I thought it was good.
My dog is jealous of Justin 😂
Lift that leg up to 11 Justin 😂😂😂😂😂 or there's not point 😂😂😂
Any idea when VIP tickets will be available for UK dates? xox
Soon!
'Ere Justin, a question has popped into my noggin this very morning whilst listening to Hot Cakes. Is that a tiny dog yap I can hear on 'She just a girl Eddie', or am I hallucinating canines?
Did you get married? Noticed the ring. If so, congratulations! This is the worst day of my life. 😋
Wiki said 'separated' but the ring...I checked again, the status has been updated so he's back with the wife? Sorry for the news, sad for others too.
@@Moongazer101 If so, that's such happy news for his family! So it is not sad to me at all.
Justin, I've been watching your channel for nearly a year now. It's brilliant, as far as this yank is concerned. I was never a die hard fan, but I did own a copy of "Permission to Land" as I'm sure everyone did back then. Ha! Regardless, I really enjoy the witty repartee and insights you provide. I've been silently composing music since the 90s (as a hobby, mind you), but most of the stuff I come up with is more score based I feel? I used to sing but I don't have the vocal range I once had. Age is a mother. I imagine my instrumental musings furthering a scene in an independent movie. All that to say this. I would love to share some of that with you. I know that's extremely presumptuous on my part. I'm nobody.... and you are, well, Justin Hawkins. Anyway, worth a shot.
We need to see the welly picture
Love this section! ❤
So much love to you and everything you do Mr. Hawkins
I think with the space capsule you'd have to go with Radiohead's Kid A or Amnesiac, something that's probably closer to what the aliens are listening to from their own planet.
Comments day videos are my fave 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🥰🥰🥰
As we get closer to Xmas please could you do an analysis of christmas rock hits and the Darkness' contribution to that legacy. Also thinking about your role in the Live Aid anniversary concert. I always found it impressive they let the guitar solos go nuts at the end of that
Love this channel
Just got tickets for festival hall Melbourne in feb. 🤟
That rock pose in the beginning was from a James Dean picture.
Classic,😄
Good morning 😊😊🎸🎸
@2:38 up against a marshall cab with the 1000 mile stare on his continence. Looking over the thousands that walk past.
thanks for your answer to my question. Enjoy the tour! Tried to get tickets for Amsterdam… but sold out already 😢 Will continue to follow JHRA ✨💛✨
Fancy a trip to Berlin? There's still some tickets available for that show!
@@JustinHawkinsRidesAgain Well Berlin might not be possible but I see you are in Hamburg following day… me thinking about it 🤔 Looking for a friend to go with ;o)
wow somehow I found tickets for Amsterdam 🎉 see you there.
Bought tickets on viagogo and now I’m unsure about legitimacy of site, seen a lot of bad reviews 😬 My bad, got too enthusiastic seeing tickets available in Amsterdam. Well maybe I’ll be lucky and I will get real tickets on the day 🤞🏻As you mentioned Berlin seems to be the only place left for tickets in Europe via ticket masters with Italy/ Nonantola. Never too old to get a learning experience ! 👵 😂
@@JustinHawkinsRidesAgain 🥳 Received my tickets for Amsterdam gig! Was not a scam after all… Over the moon and very much looking forward… Now I can start looking for a friend to come with. ✨💛✨
I can go to work happy at 5am just waking up to the fab Justin Hawkins. Love ya Justin ❤
Love the shred air guitar intro
My question: As song writer and composer what singer woulg you like or have you liked to write a song for?
I’m mystified about the UA-cam numbers too! I suddenly have numbers after my name that I did not choose
I remember McCartney saying he would get excited if he learned a new chord off George, who had seen it somewhere. Probably a posh chord ...
Comment day is my fav! 🥰
Justin, soul brother! You picked the same two albums I would have to represent the best of 90's rock. 🫶🏽
Thank you for answering my question. I really appreciate it. 😍
I have a suggestion - you should seek out Gerald McMorrow to direct one of your music videos. His best example is Francesca's Party by Baxter Dury. He's also done some short films too.
Love you Justin!
What’s the best thing you’ve done for yourself since making it big
You are a funny bastard and an incredible musician, fair play to you!
Jazz is a series of wrong notes and luxury chords.
Hey Justin. Absolutely LOVE Speed Of The Nite Time and other Motorhead bonus tracks (You Don't Have To Be Crazy..., It's a Love Thang and So Long)...they make a brilliant 4-song repeat loop. :o)
"What kind of wall art do you think our treasured guests would love to fall asleep to?" - this hotel management 🤡😱🤡
Which of your tattoos is your least favorite? I know it's not about music but still interesting to ask anyone who has a lot of tattoos that.
Hey Justin, wanna go for coffee when you're in Melbourne in Feb? Dan, Frankie & Ru are welcome too of course. Can't wait to see you (yes, I bought tickets). You have mentioned that your daughter is singing and singing well. Have you encouraged her to play any musical instruments? Has she taken an interest in a particular instrument or just the instrument that is her voice? Cheers & many thanks. Kerry 🦘
Really good episode.
Hey J, random Q but what is your watch? Looks like a Tudor black bay but can’t say for sure?!…looks nice what ever it is!
Best,
Ed
👏🏻Wise life advice as usual Sir Hawkins!🍿🙌🏻 Also THANKYOU for helping inspire new musicians to- for the love of god- please care less about what is the most “popular” in music right now (🤮 😂) and just make sounds they love then find others who love it too. HOTTEST TIP: Do what brings you joy, no matter how weird you think you are, then FIND YOUR TRIBE of people who feel just as weird as you, then you’ll have dedicated fans for life who will go out of their way to support what you do, help have your back, and further help your niche community of goodness to expand. (I’m not a musician or involved in music in any way, but I do support creativity and good music and art which I personally enjoy every chance I get, because this world needs unique and new inspiring ideas and perspectives now more than ever😄)🖖🏻💗
Disappointed that there is no Vancouver, BC date on the Permission To Land 20th Tour. The Commodore Ballroom would have been sold out!
Thanks for coming to Vancouver in the past, the show with Foxy Shazam opening was one of the best The Commodore has ever had.
I saw an interview with Dan recently where he was talking about Stone Gods and how he talked about doing a tour with Stone Gods and Hot Leg, if and when he releases the second Stone Gods album. Did/do you like Stone Gods? And what's your relationship with the people and the music of Hot Leg now?
Love comments day! Can’t wait to see The Darkness in Bristol in December!
🤔 Really should figure out how I’m going to get there at some point 😅
Hey there lovely person. Missed this. Replay.
Not a single Spanish date in November. Why do so few bands do shows in Spain?
Oooh the mystery hand at 04:57. Intriguing..
Famous irish hand.
It’s Jenny’s hand, if I’m not mistaken.
@@vanpeethovenstudio I am in awe that you can tell nationality from a hand. Can you make money with this skill?
@@Tim091It’s Jenny’s hand. She’s Irish 🤷🏻♀️
@@NinStardust and can tell name!! They didn't teach us this skill at school.
I always wanted to ask the band name question.
Now I don't have to 👍
You have the sweetest, yet very masculine personality! A Well balanced Man! Thank you! We need more of your kind! 🙏🙏🙏
Really enjoy comments day.
the black veil, my old man called it the black dog - ie... hows it going? Naaa! black dogs got me.
What kind of hotel has paintings like that in the rooms?
Statue pose idea: Justin sitting on a posh looking couch exactly like the one in this video with a cup of coffee in hand.
Great song!
Can't wait to see you guys in Detroit! This will be the 3rd time! I still remember having to drag my dad to the store to buy Permission to Land since it was "explicit" and I was underage.
Pinkies up! Slurrrp😂
Is there any chance I could do some photography at your London gig?
"skin tubes" LMAO. Great questions...found the Queen recording present day and probe record ones the most interesting...Mr. bleary-eyed eyed also magically wakes up with perfect hair 😂
14:00 (ish), I remember seeing that comment. I would have added AIC’s “Facelift” album, Queensrÿche’s “Rage For Order” and “Mindcrime,” Metallica’s “Master of Puppets,” “Justice,” and the black album, plus a Tool album, and some alt rock like Korn, or NIN, and a Megadeth album, a Testament album, a Devin Townsend album (one with Gene on drums), and some obscure bands, like Fuel, Pete, Catherine Wheel, etc. Can’t leave Les Claypool or Mike Patton out. Gotta add some Tool, too, and some Disturbed.
My list would be really long. I’ve just grabbed the ones that my morning brain thought of. Halestorm! Lzzy & the band are exceptional, and she dissed my ex on tour, so she gets extra love.
Addit: I forgot my “S” bands, like Seether, Stone Sour, Staind, Shine Down, STP, Silverchair, and more that are still in the sleeping part of my brain.
Justin, as a lover of many types of music I implore you to at some point review the most slept in band Swervedriver. Preferably the song “Duel”. They are often loved by musicians and guitarists. But they never really got the attention from a wider audience that in my opinion is a travesty. To me they don’t have even a mid song. The album Mezcal Head is start to finish masterpiece. I’d love to hear your take on them. Thanks for all you do.
No Seattle tour date for the Darkness….😞. Just like U2 and the Joshua Tree tour in ‘87
Respect
might i suggest kraftwerk to add onto the golden record?
I missed uk tickets, after seeing you for the past however many years in Birmingham and was gutted I was going to miss this tour...
But never fear... This week I booked tickets to come see you guys in Paris... So I'd better brush up on my French
(I only know how to pronounce hor d'oeuvres because of "Shake like a lettuce leaf" and not "Choke on it" 😂
Wondering how you felt about the recent Freddy Mercury estate sales at Sotheby’s. Much of it left the estimates in the dust. Was it just rich people buying as investments, or was it a chance for fans to own a little piece of a legend?
Did you buy anything?
Would you consider singing the ingredients on a can of soup or something else to prove you can sing anything and make it sound good? I have faith in this. You can do it. (Hope there wouldn't be copyright issues with food company.)
TOMATOESSSSS
Justin Hawkins is eloquent, intelligent, informed and fascinating. I adore this channel. I so wish I liked The Darkness. I’ve tried, I can’t, and it pains me.
"Try to get your leg as high as you can" sounds a bit euphemistic, a la "get your leg over" 😄
