To be very fair, shes not even using the cup correctly. The cup normally holds the loose leaf tea and the straw acts as a filter so you dont eat the leaves.

Another hallmark I've found of MLMs is no one is ever quite sure how to pronounce the name of the company. Monat. Optavia. Unicity. There's tons of them. People running around calling it whatever they want and there's no one correcting them because the company doesn't care as long as people are signing up.

MLMS are SICK! When I was a new mom, I made friends with someone online who did all these weird workouts with beach body-but it was whatever 🤷♀️ cause she never talked to me about them or forced me to do it or anything. Well all of a sudden after six months of talking day and day out, FaceTime in daily with our children who were the same age ..she asked if I wanted to join her team and told me she was an instructor and all of this stuff. I was thrown off- politely declined & guess what? :) she ended up blocking me after six months of friendship lol so shady and messed up 👍 these people are seriously the bottom of the barrel. They have got no moral compass and they will climb anybody and use anybody to reach their goal and be successful!! 😢

As an Argentinian, watching someone pour a random ass drink inside a mate is fucking hilarious. It would be like watching someone pour coffee inside a pencil case and tell you that is the way to do it.
The cup (called mate) and straw are correct. You put the yerba mate (her pronunciation is accurate!) leaves in it and hot (or very cold during the summer) water . You can add sugar or something else like lemon peel in it to give it a different type of flavour.
The water gets absorbed by the leaves so when you suck on the straw, you get the flavour. Similar to tea but more earthy, kinda like matcha.
Yerba mate has a lot of health benefits, but its NOT a cure to any diseases. You are not going to a find any doctor that says "Oh, just drink mate all day and you are gonna be cured of all diseases !!!!!!!"
There are a lot of drinks across the world that have yerba mate in them, so this product is not necessarily unique in that aspect, but if you gonna drink yerba mate, because you like the benefits, just drink mate.
There are actually a lot of football (soccer) teams that are now incorporating mate in the players diets. (Probably because of Messi).
Again, there are health benefits, in the same way that matcha has health benefits. Its not a magical cure.
Yerba mate is great! And the culture around it is beautiful. Don't let this girly foul you into believing that this is real mate.
Argentina is not the only country that drinks mate, btw. But i felt i HAD to write something the second that the mate appeared.
I've been drinking matė for *years* over here in Europe. About 20 or so. Its so nice to see it get some global recognition finally. Do you have any recommendations for 'fancy matė', like the equivalent of suave latte or such. A matė-latte if you will. :) I've always just infused Ilex leaves and maybe a spice or fruit and gone with it.

also psyllium husk (metamucil) is so cheap and safer to just take by itself instead of bundled with sucralose, b6 etc. another thing that's legitimately good for you but you don't need to get it from an MLM or even a fancy brand.

Just because it's all natural doesn't mean it wont interact with medication, so glad you brought up speaking to your doctor about it! For example I can't take any iron supplements (it has to come from food) because it will effect the absorption of a prescription I take!
👆 So much this. I worked in a natural health food store for 5 years, I'm in school and literally one of the first things they teach you is to ALWAYS consult a medical expert or your personal health professional before consuming any supplements, especially if you're on any meds.

Gestational diabetes should be illegal. My sister had to give up literally everything, couldn’t even eat fruit. One slip up on a tortilla and her sugar was messed up for over a day. My nephew would’ve been 10lbs if he wasnt born a few weeks earlier lol

OBGYN here! I’ve never used the physicians desk reference. It is a book that is published by ConnectiveRX and pharmaceutical companies PAY TO PUT THEIR PRODUCTS IN IT. The PDR is thus a negotiated effort of commercial enterprises and governmental regulators.. This company likely has no products in the standard PDR, but has some in the PDR for Herbal Medicines or Nonprescription drugs/Supplements.
Its kinda sad imo because she's obviously looking for a shortcut where there is none. Time isn't on her side and she needs to get real serious real fast and this lil mlm stuff ain't gonna do it.

I have asthma, I’ve had it since childhood. I had to use a nebulizer for a good portion of my childhood and I still rely on my asthma pump regularly. My symptoms can get really bad, to the point where I cant breathe without some effort. Asthma is a treatable condition but it can’t be magically healed by tea! If that was the case I would’ve been had a glass lol

Yerba Mate is a tea made from Mate leaves. Very popular with Argentinians (I imagine it’s native to that area) & typically drank out of a cup like the one she had. but she actually is pronouncing it correctly. She’s typically delulu but I suppose not with the pronunciation

Doesn't matter if it's a "zero sugar product". For diabetics, sugar alcohols and sugar substitutes like sucralose will still raise your blood sugar
Yeah I feel like a lot of people forget that, at the end of the day, sugar-adjacent products will turn into sugar when your body digests it
Don't get me wrong, I'm well aware Unicity isn't going to cure any ailments, nor do I promote Chantel's outrageous claims that it will prevent diabetes. However, sugar alcohol, such as erythritol, is not absorbed by the body and used as sugar; rather, it is excreted in the urine. This is not to say it is 100% safe. There are implications on the gut microbiome.

Sucralose isn't absorbed by the body. Like most artificial sweeteners, they pass right through you undigested or mostly so. Which is why people get diarrhea if they over eat sugar free products
Sugar alcohols are partially digested, but don't spike your blood sugar like sugars do. They have lower calories and blood sugar effect for the amount of sweetness than sugar.

Just a piece of info from someone who works in regulatory affairs :) Many countries lack local regulations, this is why the legislative void is often filled directly by the relevant industry with existing regulations. Mainly FDA. The middle East is where we certify many products against USFDA standards.
Your explanation of MLM was pretty perfect! I would just add that sometimes (not usually) the products do work. People will use that argument- "I love the products so it's not a scam." When the point is that the business structure is a scam/fraud/predatory no matter what they sell!

Since that stuff has B6: B6 is one of the easiest overdosed vitamins and can mess with bloodwork results and skin health from my personal experience. So this stuff containing B6 is neighter surprising since B6 is in a bunch of stuff nor is it a good thing because it messes with meds and blood work results frequently. Sidenote: you can get patents for basically anything as long as you are the first to try to patent it, it does not have to be a good or functional Idea.

What gets me is her saying it’s FDA approved. The FDA doesn’t regulate dietary supplements, that’s why so many people can just make whatever and sell it without being honest about what’s actually in it. She should just take a multivitamin and drink a cup of coffee
The FDA will give approval so you can slap a label on your product, but basically FDA approval just means that the product doesn't actively kill you and can't claim to cure you of anything, which is why she was being so mindful of her language around "treatment" and "cure."
