- What’s the worst place to get a flat tyre? On the freeway? In the middle of nowhere? How about on a river crossing that’s full of man-eating crocodiles?
This is Cahill's Crossing in Australia's Northern Territory, probably the world's most dangerous road.
You can read our full review of this incredible river crossing here:

No the Bruce highway is
@@TheMarshy-wb7wu thanks for that
"Highway"imagine what visitors from overseas must think.
@@eaglybeaglyI remember about twenty years ago an American tourist to NQ saying it was a third world standard road.
My thoughts as well.
@@bertsrig6153 do you mean NT? Anyway, the road here is definitely rough, but the Arnhem Highway into Kakadu from Darwin was actually pretty good. Esp with 130kpm speed limit. I mean, it was better when the NT had no speed limits, but still…
Great place. Roads in Nepal make this look like a red carpet stroll.
@@logic.and.reasoning haven’t been to Nepal (yet!) but I can imagine. Though if you tried to stroll this one, I get the feeling there would indeed be a red carpet 😄
Cahills Crossing has hardly changed since I visited there in 1978.
@@geradkavanagh8240 change happens pretty slowly in the Top End. One of its many charms 👍
@@Mrandmrsromance Honestly thought a proper bridge would have been built by now. I admit there is problems with that given the best locations for a bridge upstream are absolutely covered with ancient art. Downstream, It's a big floodplain and the whole area is national park or part of Arnhem land.
@@geradkavanagh8240 I guess also that the water levels here change so much, a suitable bridge would have to be massive. Probably not what the locals really want either. Tricky one. In a way, I’m glad it hasn’t changed and hope it never does
@@Mrandmrsromance Spent time camping upstream of the crossing. We were using a canoe! Bank was like 3 metres so relatively croc proof but we all slept on the back of a truck or utility. Night time fun was using a spotlight on the river and counting the eyes.
@@geradkavanagh8240 wow! That sounds amazing! And somewhat terrifying - did you get any fishing done?
If the crossing or potholes don't get you, the crocodiles will 🙄🤔.
@@riverland22 I know, right! Though think I’d rather take my chances with a pothole tbf! 😄
Cahill Crossing -- they don't call it the Alligator River for nothing 🤣🤣🤣
@@istp1967 😄 I know, right! Mind you, splitting hairs (or scales anyway) they should’ve called it the Crocodile River. No ‘gators in Aus. Close enough though ay 👍
D'Aguilar highway is the worst, on a Friday afternoon.
@@petermcdonough6383 holy moley, I’ll pay that, Peter. Didn’t know this road till I looked it up just now 3rd result on Google after Wikipedia and Dept of Transport are FB posts on really nasty crashes closing both lanes for like 8kms. What a nightmare! Hope there’s a good pie somewhere along the route at least!
Super Cool Video .
@@johncunningham4820 thank you! ❤️
Road is only as dangerous as the nut behind the steering wheel.
@@jamest4424 plenty of nuts out there too, right! 🥜 Wish some of them would take a still on this road rather than drive across it 😄
and consequently, the most dangerous vehicles on any road are the ones with a faulty nut behind the wheel....
@@nunyabiznazz2210 ha ha! Couldn't agree more. Some real dumbasses on the road!
I'll correct you on that. A road is inert and cannot be dangerous. Its the twats that can't drive or carry out basic risk assessment.
Looks like a good place to start a RESCUE Business ,people will not even ask how much you charge ! ,and if they did you'd say not as much as the crocs !😁
@@notme4921 🤣 serious money-maker.
You’d want a good tow truck though, wouldn’t you 😄
By dangerous, I thought either traffic or just challenging to drive (think a steep, windy road with a cliff on one side and no guardrail in the fog and/or snow, at night, of course .Bonus points for rock slides on the uphill side. About as bad as it gets around here. ) maybe a river crossing, but never expected crocodiles....That's insane...In every situation I mentioned it would be much safer to walk, but not in this case.
Ha ha! I know right. As long as you stay in the car (and the car doesn't break down, get stuck or leak!) you're pretty safe on this road, but wouldn't recommend walking 😄
How do they maintain the road? If the surface deteriorates or some of it washes away wouldn't it be really (ie even more) dangerous?
@@purplehipporecorder great question. I have no idea. It’s really rough - you can see the vehicles wobble and bump all the way across. Maybe the water level drops enough during really low tides for some poor brave road workers to patch it or drop flat stones in the worst holes? Either way, what a nightmare!
Victoria has even more dangerous roads .
@@bengurion5285 because of all the crocodiles down there? 😄
No because of Dan Andrew’s completely fucking the state
How can a motorcycle cross?
@@chrisblenkinsopp8588 on a ute or a flatbed? Doubt a bike would make it through - or its rider for that matter!
No alligators though
@@kentaylor2416 correct! Bit embarrassing for whoever named it the East Alligator River 🤣
Spent a million bucks on a viewing platform but nothing on the crossing itself. Typical.
@@stevendouglas6593 solid observation actually
Have to keep the crocs fed.
@@geradkavanagh8240 😄
That's politicians for you.
Nah, wouldnt even come close.
@@cruiser334 😄 I guess we did ask the question
No, it's not.
@@colinl9018 haha thanks Colin. Your insights are always appreciated
Good footage terrible music
Good to see our hard earned tax dollars being wisely used to improve the roads infrastructure to make travel safer.
@@rene9377 is that still a thing? Thought they’d given up on the project ages ago 😄
So now we don't even get a voice real or not and we've got to read tiny captions and listen to annoying music you have failed as a broadcaster
@@FTY13 no, you’re right Jamie. Reading is hard, isn’t it. And turning down the volume: near impossible. Glad you enjoyed the video 😊
@@Mrandmrsromance captions are for when people don't speak English and I have no problem with reading it's just it's too small and it shouldn't be there I want to be looking at the scenery or the video not reading . And your choice of music was highly annoying so now I've got to turn the volume down because you can't choose music that's appropriate ? Maybe you should just concentrate on making quality videos instead of this crap lol
@@FTY13 lol
@FTY13 your name Karen Darren?
@@logic.and.reasoning No just a retired entertainer that would rather people put professional looking content up lol obviously someone born in this century wouldn't understand that
Painful stupid music. A huge thumbs down from me. And No its not the most dangerous road.
@@davidwoodley1709 huge thumbs? You must be a legendary hitchhiker 😄
