  • The Racer's Mindset: How to Pass, Be Passed & Start and Re-Start Races
Racecraft is all about passing and being passed in a way that results in an advantage to you. While technique is important, your mindset - what you're thinking about, and when - is a bigger factor in your racing success than anything else. In this video, I narrate the "self talk" that goes on inside great racers.
Whether you're a beginner with HPDE (High Performance Driver Education) events, a regular track day driver, an experienced race driver, or anything in between, I aim my Speed Secrets high performance driving tips at you. All have one thing in common: to help you be an even better driver.
Subscribe to this channel for more tips.
    And check out:
speedsecrets.com for my driving tips, Ask Ross Q&A column, Speed Secrets Weekly e-newsletter (entertaining education, conveniently delivered), free eBooks, eCourses, Virtual Track Walk videos (with Peter Krause), and info about coaching and seminars.
Also, I recommend HPDE, track day, and race driving instruction through organizers such as Chin Motorsports (www.chinmotorsports.com), Hooked On Driving (www.hookedondriving.com), The Drivers Edge (www.thedriversedge.net), ProFormance Racing School (proformanceracingschool.com), Bondurant Racing School (bondurant.com), Skip Barber Racing School (skipbarber.com), Allen Berg Racing Schools (www.allenbergracingschools.com/), David Murry Motorsports (davidmurry.com), BMW CCA (www.bmwcca.org), Porsche Club of America (www.pca.org), and Audi Club of North America (www.audiclubna.org), and many others. And check out SafeIsFast (safeisfast.com), racers360.com, and driver61.com. My point? You should never stop learning - there's always more!
    Have fun!

This vid, and indeed, your whole channel is sooo good. It's funny, you see all these guys who are (quickish) on track days, but have no idea in their first few club races and they just fall into a heap. People underestimate just how cerebral racing is.

Thank you for using The Ridge and a small piece of Chumpcar as examples in a Racers Mindset. The hours of track time endurance racing offers at so many of these great tracks works the racer into nearly anyone willing to use these skills. I'm proud to be holding a first place trophy earned at Portland International Raceway on a Father's day weekend endurance racing. It takes a good team, machine and mindset!

Loved this! It's really helpful to follow the train-of-thought of a racer.

Nice info. Specially when the track is wet becaure there are a lot of race lines,. different zones of grip. It´s very important to see the fast lines, the braking points and focus on clear overtakes. Be honest with yourself.

The chase, starting at 20:45. Question for anyone: Is it just me or did the black car signal to pass right, just after exiting the corner?
