Turning Science Fiction Into Robotic Realities
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 лис 2018
- For some, science fiction movies conjure ideas about a faraway-perhaps impossible-future. For Yoshiyuki Sankai, they provide inspiration for tangible, life-changing technologies. Sankai is CEO of Cyberdyne, a billion-dollar company that shares its name with the cyborg manufacturer in “The Terminator.” He’s also the creator of HAL, an exoskeleton that uses brainwaves to move and helps people regain the ability to walk. And if the name sounds familiar, you’re onto a pattern. This revolutionary device is named for the A.I. in “2001: A Space Odyssey.”

The Terminator but real when?
Neat product, but Horrible marketing: "I want to create robots that help people, but i named my company after one that built murderous robots, and named my product after a murderous computer"
He just chose that name because it sounds cool. Japanese naming sense is pretty much like that xD
There's no company named Cyberdyne that makes murderous robots and a murderous computer, that's all in the movies. I guess you see movie stories as being real.
@@erickm119 ... lol
@@erickm119
They're metaphors tho
@@erickm119 On the psych side, yes, that does happen! Even with the awareness of fiction not being real, we're still inclined to treat and react to it like the real thing. There's not really such a huge difference, from our evolutionary lizard brain's perspective.
On the snark side, what, we gotta insert "TOTALLY FICTIONAL" disclaimers every time we reference popular culture now?
Those look like the long fall boots from Portal
I thought so from the thumbnail but watching it makes me think not so much.
Actually in disbelieve that you guys would have a partnership with shell, I get you guys have got to get your money from somewhere but common, shell seriously?
I actually want to say they've partnered with them before as I distinctly remember seeing algea farm commercials from shell. I'm unsure if that was sponsorship or just allowing them to advertise on their videos but regardless it is really disappointing.
Wonderful. Amazing!!!
Robots do everything
Everything?
They walk. Can you?
but can u do this
including putting some people in to their grave.
great vid !!!
This is amazing
Welp. Those things in science fiction are now becoming reality. If one uses those same sensors for a large robot, there you go big ol pacific rim bots (not that big but you get the idea)
Virtual reality where you are almost in the game is something of older TV shows and books (such as Ready Player One which I believe has been around for some time).
Things are changing.
Next up. Full on AI like the terminators.
Detroit becoming human?
its a good game. But not at all.
Lame, this is actually saving someone
my name is connor, i’m the android sent by-
ok i’ll stop
I hope it will work, looks good
Neat. Part of me is curious how people feel after having to go back to their wheelchair. Progress is still progress but makes me curious
I've never seen a video sponsored by shell
I actually got an ad about this guy little bit ago.
An inspiration
With all these sketchy names this guy is playing with fire
I am with muscle distrophy and i am WAITING FOR THIS to be stronger and light enough to help me walk and climb up stairs !
Reminds me of Detroit, I remember CYBERLIFE
I guess the irony is lost on Mr. Sankai that in both movies (e.g. Terminator and 2001, respectively) the robotic AI turns on its creator and tries to kill the humans? Not the best marketing ploy for a robotics company.
This guy has such a soothing voice
Mean while in the future...
Humanity robot creation takes over the globe...
Sounds like a good use of your time if you ask me!
Iam curious how got the rights to use Cyberdyne isn't it a property owned by 20th Century Fox?.
Maybe he bought them
It's James Cameron who owns the rights and fox never had the rights to the Terminator franchise.
I have heard that copyright law is a funny thing on an international scale
All I want is either machine gun hands or superhuman speed
While everyone else saw the Terminator, *did anyone catch that clip from cyborg 009???*
This man gives me James Halliday vibes.
So its like training wheels for people with walking problems. GBS: Yes a-. SHUT UP AND TAKE ME MUNEY
Imagine if Skynet was actullay real and they sent back a tape of a recreation of what was going to happen in our future using real people like Arnold Schwarzenegger (which we know as the Terminator movie) in hopes of inspiring someone (this guy in the video) who will eventually create Skynet itself.
MatPat predicted microbots
How much is the chair? Revolutionizing walking
It's starting...
I wanna purchase this
Lets hope that he doesn't create skynet
And now I'm remembering of Robotics;Notes... guh.....
Robots!!!! John Connor, help us!!!
I feel like I have seen this before...
**Watches iRobot once**
Yeaaa this needs to become reality
The end is near....
#future...!!👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
Terminator's got nothing on him
Can I purchase this
A story about human advancement sponsored by shitty fossil fuels? Really? Lol
You wouldn't have gotten this video if it weren't for em
If PR and diversification isn't a good reason to invest in this then KSA is a doomed place for doing it.
@@gfbtfbtfilyfxbtyewqqef GBS has 3million subscribers. I'm sure many would contribute to crowd funding or become patrons of this channel for a much cleaner viewing experience. Besides I was merely pointing out the irony of a video about helping people using new technologies being sponsored by a company collectively damaging the planet.
@@strayiggytv yeah? How much are you willing to pay, since you are tge one bitching ?
@@cachorro25 I don't know around 50 to 100 to a patreon? Maybe more if it's a one time fee ala kickstarter? You do realize there are individual youtubers who raven the world on their ad revenue and patrons without accepting money from big oil don't you? You act like this is some crazy foreign concept or something. Also last time I checked this is the comment section on UA-cam and I can 'bitch' about whatever I want lol
I love how old people in japan arent so afraid of experimental technology
@Joreen Soller
😄
Oh, no.. Oh, no..
He named it "Hal" oh, shit.
Is he trying to build a robot invasion?
Aperture Science
And its only going to get better from here
Take over the world, tojo
nice
Cyberdyne? MORE LIKE CYBERLIFE FROM DETROIT: BECOME HUMAN
I want robot servants. That's all I need and I'm good.

@@CyborgRowlet I meant robot HELPERS.
Are you sure?
CyborgRowlet26 Yep.

Telling lies?
You should really have a think about disassociating yourself from Shell. Even Lego did.
He kind of does but he is using is robotics for good
waiting for the great rebellion against automation
@umutcan korkmaz
I don't know about you, but I am against full automation.
Science Fiction has been inspiring inventors and futurists since HG Wells. SCI-FI should always inspire generations because it pushes to what we can accomplish. Elon Musk is another. Anything is possible as long as we believe.
is no one thinking of MEGALOBOX?! just me? oki 😞
So... How much did he have to pay just to use the name?
Heyyooo
Cyberlife😂
Idk what to say hmmmmmmm
*this was a triumph*
Hal in this video is from 2008 version, this news is pretty old.
Fucking wow!
Yeah no I need to find a way to shut down cyber dyne if I want my planet to live
@BR0TH3R TUB3
Good luck getting citizenship here in Japan... 😋

Robots now rule
Its for the handicap

Robots will replace humans.
Everyone will have a flying car by the year 2000.

Being an irresponsible douchebag isn't an easy task it took humanity millions of years.
