for all of those who think this video is disturbing, what did you expect? ITS RAMMSTEIN!!!! They kick ass in so many ways and the videos are ALWAYS great. So what if some videos are slightly disturbing. Just keeps everyone on their toes and also just lets the fans know that no matter how much they push the limits on their music and videos, they will keep making the music we all love.

I feel like this song represents what society does with children. We tell them about how idealistic the world is and put them through torture, and when leave for the real world ultimately unprepared for what's ahead we tear our hearts out.

Even though this is about a TV show (Der Sandmann) it seems to me to fit patients of schizophrenia especially patients of the visual/auditory hallucinations. I've been reading up on schizophrenic mental disorders, it truly is a never-ending nightmare...

About that theme, i recommend you the "doors of perception" by Aldous huxley. its about when he (Aldous) was under the effect of mescalin and he tells the 2 sides of the effect and how the "bad side" (bad trip) can be compared to what a schizophrenic patient has to go through every day.

I barely know any German, but the actual art these men put into their videos, and the aggressive tone that will always be German, is the reason why Rammstein is one of my favorite bands. Rock on, that was beautiful.

  • @JonatanCarmi

There's a mistake regarding the video. When I see Apocalyptica, by the looks of it, the notes are played according to the fingers on the neck of the Cello, not according the bow rubbing the strings. What comes from the bow rubbing the strings is the strumming.
But it's still a better love story than Twilight!

Like all Rammstein songs, I see this one with a double meaning, for those who wish to dig a little deeper; a ghost story or a nightmarish tale, for children, and could also be interpreted as remorse, for the Holocaust. In the beginning of the video, you see faceless prisoners. In the eyes of the Nazis, the Jews didn't have an identity. As the video progresses, you see a monster guarding a prison cell, with many of the faceless prisoners crawling all over each other; living conditions that replicate those in concentration camps. The video climaxes with Till eating his heart (could be interpreted as being at war with oneself), and finally ends with a giant, old house burning (could be interpreted as a former Germany, that ended up being destroyed). Throughout the song's chorus, the lyrics "my heart burns" are repeated, for emphasis, and even made it as the title of the song. When not referring to the temporary ailment that follows copious fatty food consumption (heart burn), when one says their "heart burns", they are usually expressing a feeling of remorse and hatred, simultaneously. I'm not going to put words in the mouth of Rammstein, but I've always seen them as very anti-Facist, in the first place

My interpretation is that the song is talking about the oppressive nature of fear and more specifically childhood fears. In the video it seems to show how they've been held captive in a cage of fear the whole music video until they break free from that cage, overcome those fears and leave the nightmare behind them. Just my view though :)

I've never seen a band that has such presence as Rammstein. They put on an awesome show, and Till's voice is so awesome and commanding. And the lyrics are usually so much more interesting than what most people sing about. And even though they're awesomely dark they aren't a bunch of sniveling angry punks, they are like the gods of music. :-D My favorite band.

Rammstein said in an interview that they use words to make people doubt and see a song in 3-5 different perspectives. But please don't forget that the german Nazi's only took old inventions. Concentrationcamps were Danish, the germans just used them for efficiency. And Mein Land is one of the songs with mutiple perspectives, same as Amerika.. "Blitzkrieg with a rifle of meat" is just a nice way to describe a quickie.

Really good music has no need for one to understand the lyrics or the complexity of the song. A good song expresses a feeling universal. This is one reason I love Rammstein, I might not be able to understand the lyrics, but I'm able to feel the meaning or emotion behind the lyrics.
