Please read before commenting. I need to clarify some things. There are 50% of these comments misunderstanding the situation and thinking I'm saying "fake" moths are a problem even though the first line in this video was "some think fake moths are a problem, but I don't." I made this video to try and help people be LESS concerned about "fake" moths because so many fear their time being wasted so much that they think all moths are the same,like how a parents doesn't trust any stranger with their child. I didn't say anything that could make you think that. I may need to make a follow up video because of how many confused people are here. Please watch the video from start to finish before commenting on the future.
Well in my earliest days, I thought hidden players were something I was supposed to KILL or beat them for exp or something so I kept honking at them till they went away or became unhidden again😭
When I try to be a moth: 1. Dress as a moth 2. Lose all my winged light 3. Go to daylight or other popular places 4. And of course act like a moth but only when there's people around

(if i remember correctly) 1 is obviously the one that you got from a spirit 2 is where its the same emote but with glowing effects:0 3 is more of an advanced version of tier 1 emote and 4 is the advanced emote with glowy effects!
I honestly really find it wholesome to see veterans or older players continue to help moths.I still remember when I was a moth around season of light seekers and an older player guided me through the game.I was so excited and honestly loved the way the game is interactive yet also restricts a bit by making you need to friend people before talking to them, which makes bullying a bit harder to come by.I took a long break from the game and haven’t talked to that person but I miss those days
I have also found that some fake moths will honk a lot more than a real one or at least in my experience I have found really new moths don't really honk a whole lot. 🤗 Flying with a real moth is pretty fun, they'll take ya on a adventure!
It’s also possible that some moths learn from other players to spam honk. I remember as a moth when a veteran lit my candle, bowed, then flew away, and after that I started bowing at people too after lighting them, so someone could experience that but with honking.

Here few ways to know fake moths :D 1) By seeing their wedges. Most innocent moth should have 1-5 wedges. 2) Height. Innocent moth should have a normal height and not chibi, small or tall. 3) Using the Question Mark. If a moth ask you to help them finding spirits, you should ask them if they could using the Question Mark feature in emote memu. If they don't or act like there is nothing, then they are fake. 4) By seeing their activities. If you got kidnapped by a moth, see how they walk and what they do. Most innocent moths will walk normally, rarely use the flap or flight mode and if they see a spirit or wings they would go there quickly because innocent moths is always curious about something new. 5) By seeing them in friend's constellation. After you friend a moth, you should always see them in the constellation everyday. Innocent moth should be evolved to growing moth each day and will having normal cosmetics like yellow cape (don't be surprised if they already have current seasonal cosmetics because some moths are crazy rich) but if they still wearing the default outfit and you know that they always online to sky. Then, they are a forever fake moth (same as me)🤣 They always using the default outfit without changing and never get bored of it.
I remember when I was a moth, I decided to not buy any of the base cosmetics because someone had told me to save up all my candles for events and TS so for a few months only wore the default outfit and a friend I made claimed I was a fake moth lol
Always look at their cape- the way they move- normal moths wont constantly honk- they also wont jump around alot when lighting you, most of the time normal moths just stare at people with cool outfits lol

One day i was like in the GW or something, And I found a moth just kinda, sitting there. I got kind of freaked out but quickly checked to see if there were any Krll around, there weren't, so I rushed over to the moth and honked repeatedly for it to get out of the way because it was sitting directly in a Krills pathway. It didn't move. Before I knew it, there was a krill, and it started to target the moth, so I got in front of the moth and protected it. Turns out it was a veteran doing a social experiment to see who would save her, and she gave me a heart afterwards. We still play together sometimes, too! Best experience I've had on CotL :)
That's pretty wild. Made me realize I probably need to post a video about how going in front of another player won't save them because of the krill is locked on to that person, everyone in range will be krilled :')
I know alot of people say that most moths don't honk alot, which I actually agree with! In my experience in moth guiding the ones who haven't been to eden yet do not actually honk alot :]. But I admit when I was a moth, I honked alot because I liked the feeling that I felt I was communicating to people even through just honks. I also just loved the noise. (Still do lmao)
I love honking me and all my moths honk a ton lmao I also meow irl tho because it feels nice (stimming) and wish I didn't have to communicate speaking human speak fr But on my alts I honk once at someone that lit me because I don't have the emotes to communicate anything yet lol
Based on experience*, moths mostly honk when they want to draw attention to something (in my experience mostly "Look, a collectible!", "Look, another thing I want to show off!" or "Hey, this needs more people to open, is anyone there to help?") or to show appreciation. *Both as a moff and from mostly running into moffs.
I’m a veteran, but sometimes i dress as a moth because it’s fun. Just running around, honking, and bumping into walls can be kinda fun, and often people will join me and we will become a moth army
At the start of the year I did spend about a week as a disguised moth as a bit of New Year fun. I didn't really openly interact with people, I kinda more wondered if people would figure it out themselves, which most people did due to wedge number. 🤭 That said, some newer players that joined conversations during this time didn't fully figure it out but after a while I just up and revealed I was a vet, and used the opportunity to answer any questions they weren't sure about in the game etc. It was actually pretty amusing, I might make it a Sky New Year tradition for myself.....
i liked pretending to be a moth when i went to Eden for the second time and only had two/three wing wedges, i used the default voice and didn't use any advanced emotes or really any at all. i met two really good friends by doing that and when i later showed up with seasonal cosmetics and talked to them about going to Eden, they understood and had a laugh about it, saying i was endearing pretending to be a newbie and that's why they liked me, and we're still friends who go on candle runs and do events together even after i admitted that i was faking being new when we met (technically i was pretty fresh, only doing Eden for a second time lol.) It can be fun to just pretend to be new and make friends that way as long as you show them later that you were playing around and didn't mean it in a bad way :D (i don't pretend to moth anymore because i have too many wedges, and too many actual moths to look after LMAO)
almost everyone in the comments: saying how you can identify a moth me when i was a moth: *walked by jumping and flapping, honked alot and actually already understood most of the game* i didn’t talk alot tho- i was a pretty shy moth, i dont know if you can identify moths by how shy they are, cuz some of them talk alot so i dont think you can identify moths by how much they talk
Most moths I made permanent friendships with are introverts, and a large chunk of moths I met that friended me were real. I usually only get friended by real moths cause veterans usually don't want to waste candles on that.
I usually ignore the obvious fakes. You get to know which is which after awhile. If it's a vet on an alt acct, they won't care, they just get on with what they're doing usually.
I learned to identify moths through their navigation of controls. I tried to play as a moth in my alt account for a while. I observed some moths when i bumped into one. One thing to know is that they do not honk as much as you think. Most fake moths spam honk so much it becomes a dead giveaway. Some do spam honk to get your attention, but not much when they have your attention already. They also don't talk much on chat? I haven't talked to many moths, and sometimes they'd just. sit there. Some also don't use much emotes since they haven't collected all, or haven't really thought of emotes as a means of communication yet. The thing with the controls is subtle. Sky's controls is a bit complicated, even when i played a game with similar controls, i took a while to fly, walk, and pan the camera to the right direction. Not saying that all moths are like that, but those new to the concept would most likely be. Once i learned and familiarized myself with it, i found that i cannot imitate the type of navigation i used to have as a moth. It either ends up as me being a tryhard moth, or an obvious veteran. Still caught either way. The habit and experience is there, and so i found my first fake moth interaction through this.
Not me watching to see if I’m a fake moth even knowing I’ve literally only been playing for a little under two weeks. That’s what a late-night brain does to you
i once met a fake moth at Prairie lobby they wear their classic looks ( brown cape and newbie hair) and have 5 wing flap. I play emotes with the newbie but then they accidentally use The Provoking Spirit emote lv2 with the effects! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 and good thing i played since Enchantment cuz i now that spirit came last time on Sanctuary 🤣🤣 and we are on season of Abyss. And there i know it was a Veteran 😂 so i set up a 2 seat chair and talk to them and said "you are vet? you use provoke emote with effects! 😂👌" and they just "Oh No! My cover is blown!" 🤣🤣 and thats my story 🤭🤭🤭
I have been playing around 2 months. Last night in the home area I came across a moth who appeared to be kneeling AND walking, or drifting along as if they were crippled. Funny how this video is coincidentally in my suggestion viewing today! However I'm glad I chose to watch as it explains what I thought was a glitch. They were doing a kind of chibi fall too - their head poking out of the ground ...... A few weeks ago a "moth" friended me then kept offering hand to fly me somwhere. There was an aggressive vibe so I blocked them, as it was kind of annoying. I have got all the available spirits and know my way around Skyworld pretty well now, so I don't need help, especially when it feels pushy. My third (quite positive experience recently, when I friended a chibi dressed in a lot of rare cosmetics. After chatting (they had paid all the friendship stages ignoring my intermittent offers) I said thanks (cuz I'm trying to save up candles) and mentioned I really needed hearts. I was fishing for them to like my memory candle message I had left by the W/L backstage in the new performance area. I was surprised they didn't actually know the W/L was there, however when I showed them they couldn't see the candle!?! (Probs cuz only one friend has given it a like so far 😥), so they gave me a heart. I was v. grateful for their generosity. Then they gave me 2 more!! It did not occur to me that she gifted me 3 hearts in one day to a new friend. Is that possible?
I haven't played this game for too long, I only just recently started- but I've been trying to search UA-cam for Sky related videos & it's really, really refreshing that you're using your actual voice here instead of a text to speech AI. Thank you for that, it makes absorbing information a lot better and overall more enjoyable
I used to not speak at all but I started when I had to do a school assignment and I was like "well, I guess I will have this be my voice reveal" and went from there. but yeah it does make it much easier to do
It's a shame that some people have had such bad experiences that they are concerned about trolls more often than not. I was helped as a moth and help moths now as a more experienced player. It's the most meaningful part of the game, to me. In a way, it's like real life. Share, be kind. Yes, some people are shady, but most don't have any harmful agenda, and more good will come out of it than bad. Also, I've learned not to spend much time using chat (tables, campfires, etc). Sometimes becoming more aware of who is behind the cute avatars takes you out of the experience, or can lead to awkward/rude interactions. Young players sometimes don't have good manners, but hey, what can ya do? 🤷♀️ Just walk away and go back to having a good time.
Yeah there are too many people demonizing moths just because some moths were rude, malicious, creepy... but unlike them I have rarely met a bad moth. My experiences with horrifying people were always experienced players. I noticed you're less likely to meet creepy new players if you don't meet them in Prairie or earlier levels in general because those early levels of wondering if the game is for you or not and not being unable to talk to people helps to weed out the spammers and very creepy people.
I remember I had this friend who I introduced to the game, and I teached him the basics, so, he looked like a moth, but, you could see he had some experience, he still demanded my help a lot but because of that, most people thought he was a fake moth, so most of the time i was with him, so the people could try to be more friendly with him, I didn't realise this would happened but he doesn't seem to mind..he's starting to look more and more different, even though he's a bit needy I love to see him grow, I think it makes me happy, thinking I'm not doing such a bad of a job as a veteran, so I think maybe I could teach other moths about this game
Ok, so I want to share a story about how I met one of my friends. I was doing the quests in the Village of Dreams, and I saw a player who had guiding option above their head. They looked and acted like a moth. 3 or 4 wedges, moth cape, one of Isle hairs, default voice. Just a random new player. You must understand that I haven't been in Eden yet. So I coudln't show them any spirit even if I know where the spirits are. I took them to the Harmony Hall. I explained them why they can't find any spirits, and I explained them the basics of seasons. Then they asked me:,, Where is Eden? Is this last kingdom? Well, I haven't unlocked all gates yet. Only to the dark green one. "I told them:,, Its this big gate with bell upon it. Go to the statue in home, turn back and you will see it". We became friends. Later, back in Home, they did few circles on the place where Vault gate should stand. Like they haven't unlocked it yet. Then they run imidiatelly to the GW gate. I started to worry, because I realised that I never complited GW alone, and the only reason I have complited Wasteland is because a friend led me. Well, my panic level increased even more, after my new friend adopted a moth. What was strange, when I were proposing them my hand, they never took it, and always wanted me to take their hand. Tired and worried, I agree. Okay, you know that Winged Light on Wasteland's gate? They had about 5 stars on their cape(maybe even 4?) and they were spinning and flying like in those YT flying tips tutorials. I started to think:How are they flying that well if their are new? They were about to go to the first krill section, but firstly I talked to them that it is dangerous place, and I can't guarantee them safety. Then they went like : Well, I didn't tell you that I'm not new. Trust me, and don't worry. Because of their flight that I have just seen, I decided to let them lead. And guess what? They were a perfect guide. Like, they knew every WL, spirit or dark plants to burn. After we complited the realm and returned home, I asked them why they didn't tell me the truth,and keep in secret their skills. And their response was:,, I don't know. I wanted to have friends. I'm sorry I shouldn't lie to you. Do you forgive me? And I said yes. Sorry for language mistakes.

How are they not a moth if they have bow emote and levitating emote? Someone can have gotten past Vault and maybe even done Eden the first time with a small amount of wings not realizing it's better if you go with more wings (because no moth knows a thing about Eden) That last one is funny as hell tho lol
I have a new moth friend phillipoino gal 19 smart quick learner skilled had gotten through areas alone & moth friend & she said hit krilled at first, but she is shy to ask for help or on discord too. I told her not to be. She can do GWL already in two weeks & Eden & unlocked all mao gates, she just has 62wl or what not. She just needs to know where the spirits emotes are, etc she got free gift sp too. Also, I can't stay up late hrs or continue to that is to be on get time day time for her night 1_3am etc. I'd the times exactly if from 8pm or b4 till 5am it after midnight t like I said. I can't check dms to know from our comvo. She just needs help in fire trucks, etc also wlr to get more stuff & wb to get stringer fly higher & do Eden better. 😂 That's all. I'm still not there to go all alone & tamraimatutaized from mistake incidents & the sound my nevsrs heart can't take it. I only did Drago for spirit etc last yr as a moth. Ieft heart 💔 cuz no help in Prince season, etc so now that back got lots of friend not just to light me, but most that & new ones & helping o es & my -5 main peeps l,but really 3 & one is 14 yr old tenn moth pretector & GWL Uber, etc. 😂

I've been playing this game for like 2 years and still missing my moth days, its like real life when you want to grow up but forget that the experiences that one is having in that moment are really exciting and beautiful

I just like looking like a Moth, and to be honest I just learnt the term, as I'm not very involved with the community. I don't really care about the accessories much and I just enjoy the game and like to play the piano lol
Looking through the comments as a moth (I play for 7 days now) is amusing. Because there are things like "no flying, no honking, no emotes" but I do all of that, because it's not my first server connected game. I wonder if others think that I'm a fake moth

One time my friend was on an alt and met me and sat with our mutual friends and freaked them out by telling them shit about them that strangers shouldn't nknow and pretended to be a hacker lmfao... I blew her cover as t some point by saying "when are you gonna tell them lol" it was hilarious. Hackers are... yeah, lazy indeed. But I have noticed a lot of baby hackers seem to not understand what they are doing is inappropriate. Would a prankmbe the same thing as a lie? (not mad)
Fortunately I've only encountered "mean fake moths" only once. At the time, i only had a yellow cape and braids even though I'm an old player. I don't really grind and pay for APs. Anyway, I think they thought I was a moth, I was fresh out of eden so i only had a few bars on me. They were looking for attention so my automatic assumption was do they need help? I lit their candle and obliged. They had a table spell so it was an immediate red flag. We started chatting. It started ok at first then they got really mean for some reason. They mocked me for still playing this game even though I was in college (i was 20 at the time). I closed the game as it spoiled my mood. Blocked them the next time I played. Just awful people in general.
Man why the hell do bullies even exist in this game? I'd beat their ass if I were there. Most people I know that play are in their 20s. I know one in their 40s that plays! This game is a relaxing place to make friends and express ourselves, and it is NOT a kid's game. It may be 10+, but tbh it really isn't a kid's game. Gross people like that need to log off and never come back.

Ohhhh geez. I remember when I was a moth nobody really helped me out cause I acted like a player who was experienced, besides the fact I semi ran into walls every now and then. I tend to learn how things work very quickly, and then just go off on my own doin my own little thing, and also kind of just ran away from people trying to light me cause I had no idea why they were doing it and I was just nervous of other people. As a now experienced player I still am absolutely nervous when lighting players because some of them speak languages I don't know, or they're just straight up weird. I mean there's the normal ones or people who just accidentally light your candle but I just get spooked by players randomly showing up and trying to light me. [SORRY THIS IS SO LONG]
They just want to see what you look like. We like to appreciate others' costumes. Lighting doesn't mean you can talk to them afterwards. (And also, there is translate available for all comments spoken in other languages.)
I've been dragged around by moths a lot if I accepted their friend candle and sometimes afraid of what language they'll speak knowing Im not entirely multilingual hahaha.

I've been playing for a short while compared to some, only joining up around the early days of the Prince's season, but when I was a moth, I remember playing for hours trying to catch up with all the other seasons. I needed some help with some of the activities (especially with the treehouse) but most times I enjoyed going it alone, even in Eden. I don't think I've ever really delt with fake moths before, but this is super helpful to know kind of what to look for, and decide if it's worth my time to stop and engage.

When I was a moth, I had a hard time controlling the character, especially in flight and could constantly "ding" myself as I smacked into a wall. Now as a "veteran" (not really I've just been a month or so) I jump as I run for daster move speed and bow at players who light me, and I'm much better at flying, being able to do the flips and spins
Honestly this a good video in many ways. I knew some veterans liked to pretend to be moths and freak people out but i didn't know about hackers. Thanks for that. And very educational. I'm surprised that i got all this in a youtube video about a game instead of being told by a parent or a teacher. The whole bullying thing, setting up boundries, ethicals in playing online games and life, "blocking is healthy" ARE YOU FRIKKIN KIDDIN ME? do you know how much it means to me hearing this? I'm really happy to see your comment 🥰 It had to be said!! There are people out there that are super toxic and openly call blocking "abusive". Hello???? Like, bro, we block people like that... freedom of speech (at least in America) is a thing, but that doesn't free people from consequences. I encourage people to shut down toxic interactions by blocking, and not bully them back. If it's bad enough, tell someone higher about the issue (reporting). If it is REALLY disturbing, see if you can report and also find a higher authority to tell (police, tip line, whatever fits the situation for help). Another helpful tip: blocking someone doesn't mean you "lost the argument". It means you chose your own sanity over dealing with a (often mentally ill) stranger. You can't save everyone, or change everyone, you're not a licensed therapist, and if someone makes you even slightly uncomfortable, you can block without a word. The only time you should tell someone they make you uncomfortable is if you've known them a little while, and would like to try and preserve the relationship you're building. It builds trust, and the sooner you tell a friend about your boundaries, the sooner they can respect you. If you wait a long time, they will have some habits to break around you. Sorry for the wall of text! I'm very passionate about this issue 😅

😂 I met a funny fake moff. They baited me to go to eden with them and so I went with them for fun just before the PNR. We weren't friends so we weren't able to hold hands throughout. They kept spamming scared expression but still pushed forward haha. They didn't die even once on the way btw
I've only been playing for like 2 weeks but during thoes weeks I've played A LOT. So even though I'm probably still concidered a moth myself, ive been enjoying helping newer moths make their way though the game :)
I love when people don’t watch the first 4 seconds of the video What’s funny that some broken leg walkers are from poor internet connection because I saw this happen to myself with an alt. I do suspect that some moths that have like 7+ wedges are possibly actual moths but got help from other players who had more wedges. I agree that fake moths are usually harmless unless showing otherwise. It would be nice if some players don’t fearmonger about them and hackers to an extent, but it’s good idea to report hackers when spotted.
Poor internet connection can do it? I have pretty bad connection and so does some of my friends and we've never seen each each other crouching yet... but usually, people with bent legs that I talked to are always dressed as a moth, ask if I can see their cosmetics, fly with endless wings, and are absolutely hacking. Personally, I don't fear hackers because the only thing they hurt is TGC's wallet, which normally they have to be actual hackers and not baby hackers to be able to accomplish. The hackers that can candle run everything in seconds are legendary and I'd love to be dragged by one XD

You're not fake. If you aren't deliberately trying to deceive people either to do a harmless prank or to actively cause harm. Your situation is unique, but you're not fake. You lost access to your old account information? How long ago? Did you tell TGC?

I rlly enjoy pranking my friends by being a moth, and even random people, but i sometimes change accounts to prank, so the other tip to know if someone is not a moth, always know that a moth wont know almost everything, nor the plot of sky, so if they talk about things a veteran knows, it is a fake moth.

The point of the video was to help people NOT be concerned about "fake" moths. Basically, a lot of people think (not me) that people who pretend to be moths are a problem because they are "wasting their time" by looking like a moth so people think they need help. People watching this have misunderstood the message I was trying to send and don't realize a noob is still a noob for several months. You don't get to call yourself a veteran for quite awhile. I will be making a follow up video soon covering some of these comments and debunking them. Just because someone is dressed as a veteran and has a lot of wings doesn't mean they are a veteran. Just because someone doesn't wear new and "special" cosmetics doesn't mean they're a moth. At this point, it looks like everyone is determined to look at all moths and say "red flag".
Though I’m not a veteran, I help moths go through the Krill/Dark dragon area. I have once saved a moth who was about to be krilled, by going in front of the krill and distracting it and instead of making it getting my friend, I sacrificed my winged light to the krill and helped the moth from getting their own winged light stolen from . And it was also from a couple of days ago.)

One thing I liked to do when I see a moth and their wing count is I go to the farthest gates and enter 😂 if they’re with me, mostly a fake. If not, genuine- I can kinda estimate how many stars a moth would have if they journeyed normally (and yanno- mostly coming across common winged lights and not finding the hidden or high ones)
Guys i met a moth in gw and accepted his add and he insisted to lead so i thought he wanted to take me where he need help but then he flow me directly to the krill body and I paniced and lost wings Never accepted a moth in gw after that
The same thing happened to me! I befriended a moth in gw and they offered to hold my hand so I did.. but they didn't try to hide or run away from the krill when it spotted us so we kept getting oneshotted and my levels kept going down
My mom plays this game too and she's gotten to be pretty good at it. She had this happen to her too and she was so mad about it because she thought they genuinely wanted help.
I met a fake moth, at first she asked me to help accompany her to the Rain Forest but after that she took me to a place I didn't know, oh yeah last time she took me to see the sunset.
When I first started I met a hacker, during my first few days in fact. I got video of them. They had entry level moth attire and 4 stars but yet unlimited flight and were dodging krill over and over in graveyard. I lit them up hoping to hear what spell they were using but they flew away. Recently looked at the footage and realized it was a hacker. For the first few months I was saving candles and hearts so I didnt buy anything, and I dont buy attire I dont care for, like from season of abyss and TS's. So I was running around in moth gear with 11 stars! But you couldnt see it unless I took table off. haha I was waiting for stuff I liked, like the sakura and new bloom cape, since I saved I got both plus hair. Maybe a month or two ago a new moth friend was leading a friend around when I joined her, friended me too and was going in odd directions in Isle of dawn. We kept trying to lead them but we eventually gave up. Essentially my friend let me take lead and started following me. We later saw new moth friend at home with a fireworks stick. The other day someone from China (so they claimed) was pretending to be a 3 star moth, the giveaway was when they put out a christmas table! So I asked right away if they were having fun playing as a moth. Quick chat, they came along for a run but left soon after. Both havent logged on since (blocked us I assume) Also met a 1 star moth when I had my table out and randos were sitting saying hi and said he bought a program for $5 that gets him 26 candles in minutes. I lit him, contemplated reporting, didnt see the option and they left. Players like that not so much of a problem as creepers are. But I wish TGC would tighten up the controls, fix the friends splitting issue and other MAJOR issues rather than worrying about taking away fan favorites like spiral and spasm. As an artist I love the concept of the game but the overall execution and vibe has me walking along a ledge and that ledge is getting thinner as the days go by.
I desperately wish I had saved like you did. I teach my moths to do as you did now, because it's the smartest way to play. Helps with burnout knowing you can just stop playing for awhile if you need to. The game is beautiful but there's nothing to do ☠️

I have played resource based games before so when I started I was saving as part of the strategy, but I still made the mistake of adding too many random friends and now my constellation is full of players that dont come on! I want to delete and my candols back! ugh... At first I mainly spent on getting wing buffs and the first cosmetic I bought was chibi mask. So I was like moth chibi with christmas table, brown cape and 11 stars! I waited till I saw things I really wanted like sakura cape. Patience is key. Some players dont want to be patient and spend as soon as they collect, then cry when TS or special event comes! But yeah, if playing for a loooong time it can get empty, its not a Massive-MORPG game like world of warcraft, Sky is like Mini-MORPG cosmetic show, so its pretty limited. Even at 5 months playing theres not much new things for an explorer like myself... Eden is fun yet boring, been going every week, sometimes a few times per week, since I started! The most fun I have is losing lights to krills! lol
There's 100% nothing to do lmao however I have noticed if you have friends to work with and you're bored, you can work together to tell a story! it's pretty cool. You can try to invent new ways to play and share them on UA-cam and other platforms! Everyone is bored so we are always looking for something new to do :)

Well at least you have ideas and ways to continue on and enjoy the game. After constellation is complete, cosmetics are obtained, and every oob is explored the only thing left are friends and the social aspect. Keep up the great work! UwU
I'm a gamer but the controls were super duper hard for me and walking and flying was a nightmare. I'm a PC gamer lol... my moth days were rough ☠️ so I get it lol
You have no idea how many accounts I have where I start new as a moth. I always forget how difficult it is at first. With no wings etc and not being able to reach some of the blocked realms If I see someone else who is a moth I help that moth though. But I like pretending to be small. I like how I used to have to Run everywhere and be crafty with trying to reach higher up wings
I started the game like 5 days ago and ive managed to collect a decent amount of emotes as well as go through eden i even have a yellow cape now! Im worried people might think im pretending to be new because i see alot of people mention that fake moths honk alot and use emotes but i like honking and emoting
You're good I promise. People are less likely to think you're faking if you try and get yourself a new cape like yellow cape for instance) but I promise you're not faking. You can't fake anything accidentally. You have to be actively trying to deceive. Welcome to the game!!! 🥳🎉🎊🎊🎉
Today I saw people at the crabs at the first section of the wasteland and they were letting their winged light go away.. maybe this was what they were doing? I also was watching someone play an instrument but it was invisible? I assumed it was invisible because I hadn't like, lit our candles with them to reveal what they look like. But prior to that I saw them playing an instrument I could see.. and after I lit their candle i could see they had a lot of cosmetics so..
They could have also been trying to go capeless by losing their wings :) there are glitch tricks to do that. If that person was playing an invisible instrument nearby the cosmetics area, there is a trick to be able to use any instrument in game without buying it as long as you have a friend to help you. However of they were using a violin or they weren't nearby the instrument area knot at home) that was absolutely a hacker.

There are 50% of these comments misunderstanding the situation and thinking I'm saying "fake" moths are a problem even though the first line in this video was "some think fake moths are a problem, but I don't."
I made this video to try and help people be LESS concerned about "fake" moths because so many fear their time being wasted so much that they think all moths are the same,like how a parents doesn't trust any stranger with their child.
I didn't say anything that could make you think that. I may need to make a follow up video because of how many confused people are here. Please watch the video from start to finish before commenting on the future.

1 is obviously the one that you got from a spirit
2 is where its the same emote but with glowing effects:0
3 is more of an advanced version of tier 1 emote
and 4 is the advanced emote with glowy effects!
I honestly really find it wholesome to see veterans or older players continue to help moths.I still remember when I was a moth around season of light seekers and an older player guided me through the game.I was so excited and honestly loved the way the game is interactive yet also restricts a bit by making you need to friend people before talking to them, which makes bullying a bit harder to come by.I took a long break from the game and haven’t talked to that person but I miss those days

I have also found that some fake moths will honk a lot more than a real one or at least in my experience I have found really new moths don't really honk a whole lot. 🤗 Flying with a real moth is pretty fun, they'll take ya on a adventure!
It’s also possible that some moths learn from other players to spam honk. I remember as a moth when a veteran lit my candle, bowed, then flew away, and after that I started bowing at people too after lighting them, so someone could experience that but with honking.

Here few ways to know fake moths :D
1) By seeing their wedges. Most innocent moth should have 1-5 wedges.
2) Height. Innocent moth should have a normal height and not chibi, small or tall.
3) Using the Question Mark. If a moth ask you to help them finding spirits, you should ask them if they could using the Question Mark feature in emote memu. If they don't or act like there is nothing, then they are fake.
4) By seeing their activities. If you got kidnapped by a moth, see how they walk and what they do. Most innocent moths will walk normally, rarely use the flap or flight mode and if they see a spirit or wings they would go there quickly because innocent moths is always curious about something new.
5) By seeing them in friend's constellation. After you friend a moth, you should always see them in the constellation everyday. Innocent moth should be evolved to growing moth each day and will having normal cosmetics like yellow cape (don't be surprised if they already have current seasonal cosmetics because some moths are crazy rich) but if they still wearing the default outfit and you know that they always online to sky. Then, they are a forever fake moth (same as me)🤣 They always using the default outfit without changing and never get bored of it.
I remember when I was a moth, I decided to not buy any of the base cosmetics because someone had told me to save up all my candles for events and TS so for a few months only wore the default outfit and a friend I made claimed I was a fake moth lol

One day i was like in the GW or something, And I found a moth just kinda, sitting there. I got kind of freaked out but quickly checked to see if there were any Krll around, there weren't, so I rushed over to the moth and honked repeatedly for it to get out of the way because it was sitting directly in a Krills pathway. It didn't move. Before I knew it, there was a krill, and it started to target the moth, so I got in front of the moth and protected it. Turns out it was a veteran doing a social experiment to see who would save her, and she gave me a heart afterwards. We still play together sometimes, too! Best experience I've had on CotL :)
It wasn't even hard to get my wings back, either. I have like 120 so I was good anyways
That's pretty wild. Made me realize I probably need to post a video about how going in front of another player won't save them because of the krill is locked on to that person, everyone in range will be krilled :')

I know alot of people say that most moths don't honk alot, which I actually agree with! In my experience in moth guiding the ones who haven't been to eden yet do not actually honk alot :].
But I admit when I was a moth, I honked alot because I liked the feeling that I felt I was communicating to people even through just honks.

Based on experience*, moths mostly honk when they want to draw attention to something (in my experience mostly "Look, a collectible!", "Look, another thing I want to show off!" or "Hey, this needs more people to open, is anyone there to help?") or to show appreciation.

At the start of the year I did spend about a week as a disguised moth as a bit of New Year fun. I didn't really openly interact with people, I kinda more wondered if people would figure it out themselves, which most people did due to wedge number. 🤭
That said, some newer players that joined conversations during this time didn't fully figure it out but after a while I just up and revealed I was a vet, and used the opportunity to answer any questions they weren't sure about in the game etc.
It was actually pretty amusing, I might make it a Sky New Year tradition for myself.....

i liked pretending to be a moth when i went to Eden for the second time and only had two/three wing wedges, i used the default voice and didn't use any advanced emotes or really any at all. i met two really good friends by doing that and when i later showed up with seasonal cosmetics and talked to them about going to Eden, they understood and had a laugh about it, saying i was endearing pretending to be a newbie and that's why they liked me, and we're still friends who go on candle runs and do events together even after i admitted that i was faking being new when we met (technically i was pretty fresh, only doing Eden for a second time lol.) It can be fun to just pretend to be new and make friends that way as long as you show them later that you were playing around and didn't mean it in a bad way :D

Most moths I made permanent friendships with are introverts, and a large chunk of moths I met that friended me were real. I usually only get friended by real moths cause veterans usually don't want to waste candles on that.
I usually ignore the obvious fakes.
You get to know which is which after awhile.
If it's a vet on an alt acct, they won't care, they just get on with what they're doing usually.
I learned to identify moths through their navigation of controls.
I tried to play as a moth in my alt account for a while. I observed some moths when i bumped into one. One thing to know is that they do not honk as much as you think. Most fake moths spam honk so much it becomes a dead giveaway. Some do spam honk to get your attention, but not much when they have your attention already. They also don't talk much on chat? I haven't talked to many moths, and sometimes they'd just. sit there. Some also don't use much emotes since they haven't collected all, or haven't really thought of emotes as a means of communication yet.
The thing with the controls is subtle. Sky's controls is a bit complicated, even when i played a game with similar controls, i took a while to fly, walk, and pan the camera to the right direction. Not saying that all moths are like that, but those new to the concept would most likely be. Once i learned and familiarized myself with it, i found that i cannot imitate the type of navigation i used to have as a moth. It either ends up as me being a tryhard moth, or an obvious veteran. Still caught either way.
The habit and experience is there, and so i found my first fake moth interaction through this.

I play emotes with the newbie but then they accidentally use The Provoking Spirit emote lv2 with the effects! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 and good thing i played since Enchantment cuz i now that spirit came last time on Sanctuary 🤣🤣 and we are on season of Abyss.
And there i know it was a Veteran 😂 so i set up a 2 seat chair and talk to them and said "you are vet? you use provoke emote with effects! 😂👌" and they just "Oh No! My cover is blown!" 🤣🤣 and thats my story 🤭🤭🤭
I have been playing around 2 months. Last night in the home area I came across a moth who appeared to be kneeling AND walking, or drifting along as if they were crippled. Funny how this video is coincidentally in my suggestion viewing today! However I'm glad I chose to watch as it explains what I thought was a glitch. They were doing a kind of chibi fall too - their head poking out of the ground ......
A few weeks ago a "moth" friended me then kept offering hand to fly me somwhere. There was an aggressive vibe so I blocked them, as it was kind of annoying. I have got all the available spirits and know my way around Skyworld pretty well now, so I don't need help, especially when it feels pushy.
My third (quite positive experience recently, when I friended a chibi dressed in a lot of rare cosmetics. After chatting (they had paid all the friendship stages ignoring my intermittent offers) I said thanks (cuz I'm trying to save up candles) and mentioned I really needed hearts. I was fishing for them to like my memory candle message I had left by the W/L backstage in the new performance area. I was surprised they didn't actually know the W/L was there, however when I showed them they couldn't see the candle!?! (Probs cuz only one friend has given it a like so far 😥), so they gave me a heart. I was v. grateful for their generosity. Then they gave me 2 more!!

I haven't played this game for too long, I only just recently started- but I've been trying to search UA-cam for Sky related videos & it's really, really refreshing that you're using your actual voice here instead of a text to speech AI. Thank you for that, it makes absorbing information a lot better and overall more enjoyable
I used to not speak at all but I started when I had to do a school assignment and I was like "well, I guess I will have this be my voice reveal" and went from there. but yeah it does make it much easier to do
It's a shame that some people have had such bad experiences that they are concerned about trolls more often than not. I was helped as a moth and help moths now as a more experienced player. It's the most meaningful part of the game, to me. In a way, it's like real life. Share, be kind. Yes, some people are shady, but most don't have any harmful agenda, and more good will come out of it than bad. Also, I've learned not to spend much time using chat (tables, campfires, etc). Sometimes becoming more aware of who is behind the cute avatars takes you out of the experience, or can lead to awkward/rude interactions. Young players sometimes don't have good manners, but hey, what can ya do? 🤷♀️ Just walk away and go back to having a good time.
Yeah there are too many people demonizing moths just because some moths were rude, malicious, creepy... but unlike them I have rarely met a bad moth. My experiences with horrifying people were always experienced players.
I noticed you're less likely to meet creepy new players if you don't meet them in Prairie or earlier levels in general because those early levels of wondering if the game is for you or not and not being unable to talk to people helps to weed out the spammers and very creepy people.
I remember I had this friend who I introduced to the game, and I teached him the basics, so, he looked like a moth, but, you could see he had some experience, he still demanded my help a lot but because of that, most people thought he was a fake moth, so most of the time i was with him, so the people could try to be more friendly with him, I didn't realise this would happened but he doesn't seem to mind..he's starting to look more and more different, even though he's a bit needy I love to see him grow, I think it makes me happy, thinking I'm not doing such a bad of a job as a veteran, so I think maybe I could teach other moths about this game

Ok, so I want to share a story about how I met one of my friends.
I was doing the quests in the Village of Dreams, and I saw a player who had guiding option above their head. They looked and acted like a moth. 3 or 4 wedges, moth cape, one of Isle hairs, default voice. Just a random new player.
You must understand that I haven't been in Eden yet. So I coudln't show them any spirit even if I know where the spirits are.
I took them to the Harmony Hall. I explained them why they can't find any spirits, and I explained them the basics of seasons. Then they asked me:,, Where is Eden? Is this last kingdom? Well, I haven't unlocked all gates yet. Only to the dark green one. "I told them:,, Its this big gate with bell upon it. Go to the statue in home, turn back and you will see it". We became friends. Later, back in Home, they did few circles on the place where Vault gate should stand. Like they haven't unlocked it yet. Then they run imidiatelly to the GW gate. I started to worry, because I realised that I never complited GW alone, and the only reason I have complited Wasteland is because a friend led me. Well, my panic level increased even more, after my new friend adopted a moth. What was strange, when I were proposing them my hand, they never took it, and always wanted me to take their hand. Tired and worried, I agree.
Okay, you know that Winged Light on Wasteland's gate? They had about 5 stars on their cape(maybe even 4?) and they were spinning and flying like in those YT flying tips tutorials. I started to think:How are they flying that well if their are new? They were about to go to the first krill section, but firstly I talked to them that it is dangerous place, and I can't guarantee them safety. Then they went like : Well, I didn't tell you that I'm not new. Trust me, and don't worry.
Because of their flight that I have just seen, I decided to let them lead.
And guess what? They were a perfect guide. Like, they knew every WL, spirit or dark plants to burn.
After we complited the realm and returned home, I asked them why they didn't tell me the truth,and keep in secret their skills. And their response was:,, I don't know. I wanted to have friends. I'm sorry

I have a new moth friend phillipoino gal 19 smart quick learner skilled had gotten through areas alone & moth friend & she said hit krilled at first, but she is shy to ask for help or on discord too. I told her not to be. She can do GWL already in two weeks & Eden & unlocked all mao gates, she just has 62wl or what not. She just needs to know where the spirits emotes are, etc she got free gift sp too. Also, I can't stay up late hrs or continue to that is to be on get time day time for her night 1_3am etc. I'd the times exactly if from 8pm or b4 till 5am it after midnight t like I said. I can't check dms to know from our comvo. She just needs help in fire trucks, etc also wlr to get more stuff & wb to get stringer fly higher & do Eden better. 😂 That's all. I'm still not there to go all alone & tamraimatutaized from mistake incidents & the sound my nevsrs heart can't take it. I only did Drago for spirit etc last yr as a moth. Looking through the comments as a moth (I play for 7 days now) is amusing. Because there are things like "no flying, no honking, no emotes" but I do all of that, because it's not my first server connected game.

Fortunately I've only encountered "mean fake moths" only once. At the time, i only had a yellow cape and braids even though I'm an old player. I don't really grind and pay for APs. Anyway, I think they thought I was a moth, I was fresh out of eden so i only had a few bars on me. They were looking for attention so my automatic assumption was do they need help? I lit their candle and obliged. They had a table spell so it was an immediate red flag. We started chatting. It started ok at first then they got really mean for some reason. They mocked me for still playing this game even though I was in college (i was 20 at the time). I closed the game as it spoiled my mood. Blocked them the next time I played. Just awful people in general.
Man why the hell do bullies even exist in this game? I'd beat their ass if I were there. Most people I know that play are in their 20s. I know one in their 40s that plays! This game is a relaxing place to make friends and express ourselves, and it is NOT a kid's game. It may be 10+, but tbh it really isn't a kid's game.

Ohhhh geez. I remember when I was a moth nobody really helped me out cause I acted like a player who was experienced, besides the fact I semi ran into walls every now and then. I tend to learn how things work very quickly, and then just go off on my own doin my own little thing, and also kind of just ran away from people trying to light me cause I had no idea why they were doing it and I was just nervous of other people. As a now experienced player I still am absolutely nervous when lighting players because some of them speak languages I don't know, or they're just straight up weird. I mean there's the normal ones or people who just accidentally light your candle but I just get spooked by players randomly showing up and trying to light me.

I've been playing for a short while compared to some, only joining up around the early days of the Prince's season, but when I was a moth, I remember playing for hours trying to catch up with all the other seasons. I needed some help with some of the activities (especially with the treehouse) but most times I enjoyed going it alone, even in Eden. I don't think I've ever really delt with fake moths before, but this is super helpful to know kind of what to look for, and decide if it's worth my time to stop and engage.

When I was a moth, I had a hard time controlling the character, especially in flight and could constantly "ding" myself as I smacked into a wall. Now as a "veteran" (not really I've just been a month or so) I jump as I run for daster move speed and bow at players who light me, and I'm much better at flying, being able to do the flips and spins

Honestly this a good video in many ways. I knew some veterans liked to pretend to be moths and freak people out but i didn't know about hackers. Thanks for that. And very educational. I'm surprised that i got all this in a youtube video about a game instead of being told by a parent or a teacher. It had to be said!! There are people out there that are super toxic and openly call blocking "abusive". Hello???? Like, bro, we block people like that... freedom of speech (at least in America) is a thing, but that doesn't free people from consequences. I encourage people to shut down toxic interactions by blocking, and not bully them back. If it's bad enough, tell someone higher about the issue (reporting). If it is REALLY disturbing, see if you can report and also find a higher authority to tell (police, tip line, whatever fits the situation for help).
Another helpful tip: blocking someone doesn't mean you "lost the argument". It means you chose your own sanity over dealing with a (often mentally ill) stranger. You can't save everyone, or change everyone, you're not a licensed therapist, and if someone makes you even slightly uncomfortable, you can block without a word. The only time you should tell someone they make you uncomfortable is if you've known them a little while, and would like to try and preserve the relationship you're building. It builds trust, and the sooner you tell a friend about your boundaries, the sooner they can respect you. If you wait a long time, they will have some habits to break around you.

😂 I met a funny fake moff. They baited me to go to eden with them and so I went with them for fun just before the PNR. We weren't friends so we weren't able to hold hands throughout. They kept spamming scared expression but still pushed forward haha. They didn't die even once on the way btw

What’s funny that some broken leg walkers are from poor internet connection because I saw this happen to myself with an alt.
I do suspect that some moths that have like 7+ wedges are possibly actual moths but got help from other players who had more wedges. I agree that fake moths are usually harmless unless showing otherwise. It would be nice if some players don’t fearmonger about them and hackers to an extent, but it’s good idea to report hackers when spotted.
Poor internet connection can do it? I have pretty bad connection and so does some of my friends and we've never seen each each other crouching yet... but usually, people with bent legs that I talked to are always dressed as a moth, ask if I can see their cosmetics, fly with endless wings, and are absolutely hacking.
Personally, I don't fear hackers because the only thing they hurt is TGC's wallet, which normally they have to be actual hackers and not baby hackers to be able to accomplish. The hackers that can candle run everything in seconds are legendary and I'd love to be dragged by one XD

Yes! You will still technically be a moth for months :) it takes awhile to de-moth. It's about experience, cosmetics, and wedge count :)

I rlly enjoy pranking my friends by being a moth, and even random people, but i sometimes change accounts to prank, so the other tip to know if someone is not a moth, always know that a moth wont know almost everything, nor the plot of sky, so if they talk about things a veteran knows, it is a fake moth.
Every once in a while I would try to lose most of my winged light till I only have like 2 wedges so I can disguise myself as a moth 😆 Other players are so cute trying to help me and stuff 🥺💙

The point of the video was to help people NOT be concerned about "fake" moths. Basically, a lot of people think (not me) that people who pretend to be moths are a problem because they are "wasting their time" by looking like a moth so people think they need help.
People watching this have misunderstood the message I was trying to send and don't realize a noob is still a noob for several months. You don't get to call yourself a veteran for quite awhile.
I will be making a follow up video soon covering some of these comments and debunking them. Just because someone is dressed as a veteran and has a lot of wings doesn't mean they are a veteran. Just because someone doesn't wear new and "special" cosmetics doesn't mean they're a moth.
At this point, it looks like everyone is determined to look at all moths and say "red flag".

I have once saved a moth who was about to be krilled, by going in front of the krill and distracting it and instead of making it getting my friend, I sacrificed my winged light to the krill and helped the moth from getting their own winged light stolen from .

One thing I liked to do when I see a moth and their wing count is I go to the farthest gates and enter 😂 if they’re with me, mostly a fake. If not, genuine- I can kinda estimate how many stars a moth would have if they journeyed normally (and yanno- mostly coming across common winged lights and not finding the hidden or high ones)

The same thing happened to me! I befriended a moth in gw and they offered to hold my hand so I did.. but they didn't try to hide or run away from the krill when it spotted us so we kept getting oneshotted and my levels kept going down

I met a fake moth, at first she asked me to help accompany her to the Rain Forest but after that she took me to a place I didn't know, oh yeah last time she took me to see the sunset.
When I first started I met a hacker, during my first few days in fact. I got video of them. They had entry level moth attire and 4 stars but yet unlimited flight and were dodging krill over and over in graveyard. I lit them up hoping to hear what spell they were using but they flew away. Recently looked at the footage and realized it was a hacker.
For the first few months I was saving candles and hearts so I didnt buy anything, and I dont buy attire I dont care for, like from season of abyss and TS's. So I was running around in moth gear with 11 stars! But you couldnt see it unless I took table off. haha
I was waiting for stuff I liked, like the sakura and new bloom cape, since I saved I got both plus hair.
Maybe a month or two ago a new moth friend was leading a friend around when I joined her, friended me too and was going in odd directions in Isle of dawn. We kept trying to lead them but we eventually gave up. Essentially my friend let me take lead and started following me. We later saw new moth friend at home with a fireworks stick.
The other day someone from China (so they claimed) was pretending to be a 3 star moth, the giveaway was when they put out a christmas table! So I asked right away if they were having fun playing as a moth. Quick chat, they came along for a run but left soon after. Both havent logged on since (blocked us I assume)
Also met a 1 star moth when I had my table out and randos were sitting saying hi and said he bought a program for $5 that gets him 26 candles in minutes. I lit him, contemplated reporting, didnt see the option and they left.
Players like that not so much of a problem as creepers are. But I wish TGC would tighten up the controls, fix the friends splitting issue and other MAJOR issues rather than worrying about taking away fan favorites like spiral and spasm. As an artist I love the concept of the game but the overall execution and vibe has me walking along a ledge and that ledge is getting thinner as the days go by.
I desperately wish I had saved like you did. I teach my moths to do as you did now, because it's the smartest way to play. Helps with burnout knowing you can just stop playing for awhile if you need to.

I have played resource based games before so when I started I was saving as part of the strategy, but I still made the mistake of adding too many random friends and now my constellation is full of players that dont come on! At first I mainly spent on getting wing buffs and the first cosmetic I bought was chibi mask. So I was like moth chibi with christmas table, brown cape and 11 stars! I waited till I saw things I really wanted like sakura cape. Patience is key. Some players dont want to be patient and spend as soon as they collect, then cry when TS or special event comes! But yeah, if playing for a loooong time it can get empty, its not a Massive-MORPG game like world of warcraft, Sky is like Mini-MORPG cosmetic show, so its pretty limited. Even at 5 months playing theres not much new things for an explorer like myself... Eden is fun yet boring, been going every week, sometimes a few times per week, since I started! The most fun I have is losing lights to krills! lol
There's 100% nothing to do lmao however I have noticed if you have friends to work with and you're bored, you can work together to tell a story! it's pretty cool. You can try to invent new ways to play and share them on UA-cam and other platforms! Everyone is bored so we are always looking for something new to do :)

You're good I promise. People are less likely to think you're faking if you try and get yourself a new cape like yellow cape for instance) but I promise you're not faking. You can't fake anything accidentally. You have to be actively trying to deceive.

Today I saw people at the crabs at the first section of the wasteland and they were letting their winged light go away.. maybe this was what they were doing?
I also was watching someone play an instrument but it was invisible? I assumed it was invisible because I hadn't like, lit our candles with them to reveal what they look like. But prior to that I saw them playing an instrument I could see.. and after I lit their candle i could see they had a lot of cosmetics so..
They could have also been trying to go capeless by losing their wings :) there are glitch tricks to do that.
If that person was playing an invisible instrument nearby the cosmetics area, there is a trick to be able to use any instrument in game without buying it as long as you have a friend to help you. However of they were using a violin or they weren't nearby the instrument area knot at home) that was absolutely a hacker.

Their friend could have helped them do the glitch and then left. The chances of hacking are still there, but the chances are lowered.
