Another great truthful video agree with you 100%. Somethings can be overcome but the likes of noise and infrastructure and burocracy are things that you have to learn with. Think your channel gives an invaluable honest opinion to anyone pondering the move. Personally I am super exited about our next visit Nov maybe even get to Dumagete for a beer. Keep up the good work Best to you and Ellen Take care Jim
Hang in the mate! The rent & cost of food is a fraction of other parts of the world. Maybe live in both the PH & Thailand. I enjoy your videos. You should make more of them, try to drop them more often. 👍😃
I think the honesty is both refreshing and necessary. Even the rooster noise, because that’s how it is living there. Why sugarcoat? For me, at the end of the day living is cheaper in Sth East Asia as a retiree than the West. Thailand is still my preference as it has better infrastructure, medical care, food, and low crime level. Keep up the vids, mate. I enjoy them
Recently returned from a 3 week vacation in Mindanao. Loved it (Camiguin Island was paradise) but honestly the most frustrating country I have ever visited. In many restaurants the wait staff would forget the order between taking it at the table and walking back to the kitchen. Had to ask where the food was after a 30 minute wait. "Oh we forgot" was the usual answer. Also the taxi drivers were clueless. I had to open up Google maps myself and verbally guide them. COYI. Up the Hammers !
Congrats on your first anniversary , you’ve almost made 4k subs… Very frank video, which I would assume is very helpful to many people, especially to those who are up there in age and often less flexible- bordering on grumpy old man status, maybe ...lol.... Also when your water tank/ pump is sorted I’d suggest you have a level / flow alarm fitted…. Enjoy your next 11months, all the best to both of you... Cheers Glenn
You will never get anything done if Your life revolves around women only. The people that constantly feel alone or lonely are just pathetic. They are bored all the time and kill time doing stupid shit. Never kill time. Always fill in time with something smart to do. Learn to enjoy Your own company.
I understand what you are saying. That is why we have had a place in Subic Bay Freeport zone for 15 years. It has American quality. Yes the price is higher but you get what you pay for. The infrastructure of the base means no brown outs and constant water. No jeepneys no beggars it looks like a small American Town. Returning Filipina ofws choose to live here. I will be there at new year if you need any help. It is a much better place for filipinas job prospects as well. Clark is similar. What you are saying is nothing new. Expats in the know realise it is better not to live with the locals. The adventure is there if you want it, just walk out the gate.
Simon, your thought seem more or less the same as mine 8 months before I left to head back to England. I'm there now and glad in some respects but not in others (taxes, government mainly). Enjoying better choices of food, few days or nights out each week with friends, super fast internet that works well every day. There was a lot of good points in Philippines but food, medical worries, traffic, pollution and crap internet undid all the positives. As you mentioned it is all down to personal opinions, choice and ability tome or live somewhere else. Hope things come good for you there, take care as I know it can wear you down from time to time
Hey Simon as you know I travelled around the phils on my trips and i have been to most of the major islands. I have to say a low end gated community is really great to live in. Its mostly Filipinos and there is a real community feel. The one i stayed near in san pablo hard its own bar, mega sari sari stores bakery and barber. Seeing Ellen is WFH why not have a trip around with her and air bnb in some of the other cities. Of course your not going to get a huge expat community like duma. Take care mate Oh from everything I've heard and experienced Duma infrastructure is not that great
@@SpeakingofAsia I dont think you can avoid karaoke anywhere but the roads are going to be better. Maybe slightly safer not as many roosters and the ones ive been in have been less noisy. Outside of duma i dont think there is anywhere with mostly expats except maybe subic bay but i not been there. I have not found another place like duma in the phils. You could try Bacolod its a bigish city some expats but definitely a Filipino city. Personally I really liked Tacloban but its a long way to anything bigger any most of the road travel is minivans. I would also stay clear of samar the cities are tiny and transport is a nightmare but its is beautiful. CDO is also supposed to be pretty good with its own infrastructure but i really didnt stay there just passed through
Its crazy mate 6 months here 30 minutes from cebu city 3 or 4 expats I've seen talked to 1 few minutes at the Gasano market from Indiana the others seem from a distance good locals here I would love to sit down have coffee and decent english conversation once in a while other than online or phone don;t worry about noise on video its the Philippines 🤣
When you lived in phetchabun did you actually live ON the mountain or just by the city? I didn't think it would be easy to find housing up there but it would be a sweet spot and great weather.
@@SpeakingofAsia that was a great find then. I wouldn't mind living up there myself but it's nearly all resorts from the looks of it. Khao Kho I'm speaking about.
Practically no one here with bikes has any kind of insurance registration license or any of that legal paperwork all you have to do is go for a ride on a main highway and they have checkpoints set up and you'll see bikes and cars off the side of the road for a milespeople that are illegal it's just the way it is here they sit and wait till the checkpoint closes and the police leave and then they all get on their bikes and takeoff again it's common here very common
@adrianadams4724 I think a huge percentage don't. I've been told the test is VERY easy but I didn't take it myself so I don't know, I converted my UK driving license to a Philippines license.
You have a girlfriend in the Philippines now so you will probably stay there unless she wants to move to another country with you or you might have to break up with her
G'day Simon, I'm not sure where you live but fuck that noise, To close to people for me. I found a cheap house on Bohol island with not one person near me. It's fantastic. P5000 a month.
Have you tried, Coq au vin... It would made the listening easier.😃 Off to Siquijor in the morning. Noise... it's the Christmas period... Noise is good in their minds, take your exhaust off to see in the new season... There's a ber in the month.... Jesus Christ!
every problem has a solution. my wife is pleased when it is brownout we take the car to one of our favorite beach resorts and have a romantic day or two With a positive mindset even standing in the queue can be fun. by the way, standing in a queue. that's how I met my wife😊
I heared a lot of what you've said, but I don't think I remember much, or maybe cared much, because here you are talking about something in all seriousness but you haven't even started yet, but the hecklers have, and have kept on even after you were done,,,, and I just can't stop thinking or imagining that those ROOSTERS were like heckling you non-stop (as usual) but much harder and louder this time. Amazed that you haven't lost any cool with all that heckling, RESPECT !! Just a funny imagination that immediately went on in my head because I watch so many other vloggers in Philippines and I usually don't hear any heckler or rooster, or sometimes just 2 or 3 or 4 hecklers and not very loud. Just a thought, when water is cut off again at your house, do a vlog during that time talking or ranting about it but with a live waterfall in background, and at the end of the vlog, a quick run then jump cannonball into the pool of the waterfall. EPIC eyy.
Having lived in thailand a dozen years and visited the phils a couple of short visits l was allways happy to leave it's not for me but getting yourself involved with a philipina single mother is a big mistake bound to end in misery but thats your business and fortunately not mine

Think i will stick to living in Thailand so much more easier for sure
You really learn to hate roosters in the Ph.
I plan to live in Cebu city, I don’t believe it’s noisy with roosters, stay in a condo near malls
Try getting an SUV like Fortuner, you won't have any problems getting around and you'll be safer than on a motorbike also makes moving easier.
get a pickup even better.
i can even hear the cockroaches wslking on my ceiling.
😱😱
What's the driving test like there? I.'ve occasionally wondered how many people in Philippines dont have licences, or insurance!

@SpeakingofAsia Didn't realise you could do that, good to know 😊
try krisp noise cancelling software it will help with the background noises
the point about Thailand? The language - not only hard to communicate - it´s the hi pitched voices that I find as annoying as the rooster in RP
You have a girlfriend in the Philippines now so you will probably stay there unless she wants to move to another country with you or you might have to break up with her
