One of the games I fondly remembering playing to death back in the day on PC. I intend to pick it up again, but this time on PS2. Despite its shortcomings it was one of my favourites! The music was superb!
Oh yeah, the music, I just love the OST so much, its my all time favourite OST, on the fourth track, I wrote a pretty long comment just expressing my love for it.

I always hoped for a sequel or at least a playable version of Seig in another game like Marvel vs Capcom or DMC but no such luck. I can see the similarity between Dynasty Warriors and Chaos Legion but not one between DMC and Chaos Legion like many people said.
Great review, Chaos Legion has a lot of great ideas but the execution is hit or miss. It's my guilty pleasure though, nothing empowers me more than summoning the god of death to slap large groups of enemies. The legacy lives on though, Onimusha Dawn Of Dreams had the same composer for the music as Chaos Legion and one of the characters has Sieg's outfit as an unlockable. Plus Devil May Cry kinda takes a nod to Chaos Legion with V. Also Astral Chain seems to be taking inspiration from Chaos Legion which is something. I did like Castlevania Curse Of Darkness as well though, I always saw it as the spiritual successor to Chaos Legion in a way, the idea of evolving your monsters based on your weapons was really cool and they had a ton of abilities which was pretty cool. I do think Chaos Legion was more focused on the concept of summoning monsters to beat up enemies though. I consider Chaos Legion to be a pioneer for monster summoning 3D Beat Em Ups which is certainly something worthy of praise.

Not gonna lie, the recent Onimusha remaster and the pre-release speculation over V had me slightly hopeful that Chaos Legion would finally get an HD remaster at one point, because from all the niche IPs Capcom had around that time, it's the one that could use an updated release the most. Well, God Hand could use one too, but at least it runs mostly flawless on PCSX2. And yeah, the moment the trailer for Astral Chain straight up called the monsters Legions I couldn't help but go "hey wait a second". I'm keeping my eyes on it, even if I don't have a Switch.
I don't have a switch either. I've been waiting for F-Zero to come on the switch before I ever consider getting one. It will be a shame if Astral chain remains an exclusive forever.

Not sure if anyone brought this up, but Dege, the developer behind dgVoodoo 2, has made a patched executable for the game that remedies the mismatched/corrupt textures in the PC port, and recently I - may - have found a solution to the crashes when playing on modern versions of Windows. I first tried to play the PC version and kept running into crashes even without dgVoodoo 2 from my experience, and I was tempted to give up on the PC version if it wasn't willing to cooperate on modern systems on top of dealing with the frustrating early game sections, but a lightbulb went off in my head since I remembered Silent Hill 2's PC port as an issue with mult-core CPU setups which has been addressed by the Enhanced Edition community project as an optional function to force the game to run off a single CPU core. I applied this idea on Chaos Legion's PC port by using ImageCFG to flag Dege's patched executable to use CPU1 on my rig and from there I was able to have proper play sessions with the game without it crashing every time it has to go into a loading screen. I've documented the solutions to these problems plus adding a workaround for modern XInput controllers with XInput Plus on PC Gaming Wiki if anyone wants to try and give the PC version another go.
I actually did boot up the game again a few months ago and saw some of these fixes on PCGamingWiki. Thank you very much for them, I managed to get the game running great at 4K without crashing on loading screens.
@@MerryBytes You're welcome though some contributors pointed out other fixes like the fixed executable by Dege before I knew about it until I stumbled on the game's article on the site, and it was by a sheer miracle that XInput Plus was compatible with Chaos Legion on PC since it's some times a hit-or-miss when it comes to using it to wrap XInput calls into DirectInput.

This was such a fantastic game.. it needs a release on todays consoles, a reboot or hd remaster would be fantastic.. they dont make fun games like this anymore
I only got the chance to play this for the shortest time, I absolutely loved it I'm trying to get work so I can get an Ayn odin pro handheld device and get chaos Legion, can you tell me more about those updates? I straight up enjoyed chaos Legion more than DMC...it just tore me to pieces seeing the story tear Thanatos to pieces
I don't have first hand experience with handhelds like the Odin so I can't give you any recommendations on that front, but your options are to either emulate the PlayStation 2 version (PCSX2 on Windows/Linux or AetherSX2 on Android) or to run the PC port, which thankfully has gotten some fixes since I made this video years ago. From what I can gather, the Odin runs Windows on ARM, so while in theory it should be able to run the PC version, it has a hefty overhead so performance might not be great.
Like I just thought of an idea, remember phantasy star universe 2 on PS2? Similar to the seed concept in 8 what if seig got a bunch of cool friends like that and made an awesome MMO with a good aesthetic instead of how some games currently are if you understand what I mean,I've been in eve Online for awhile,I definitely like chaos Legion more as I'd like to do a system in eve but players "doing their sandbox thing" don't like it people aren't into them making games harder when it should be simple
Like with that girl I'd add a new element, what if she could be aided by mastered legions ,like materia for instance and have that as a support move like side by side with seig with a two player element, if GTA could do it chaos Legion definitely could and do it a lot better you know summons and comradery concepts ECT, how about soul materia. What if omega force had some interest in this game? I could easily see a dynasty warriors variant attributes of gameplay to greatly improve the story as well as exp gain and growth for say allies
I mean isn't it interesting that it's quite similar to sephiroth genesis and Angela , look at one of those "monsters" it's like a beaten down variant of the ultima weapon,what if the monsters and seig actually went on the same side and you were versing something else instead
This game deserved a sequel even with its flaws even tho the combat was simple but unique At least we did get a sequelish/rebootish from Astral Chains which could've chaos legion without the flaws
Sorry man I fucking loved this game even though I didn't play it much, eve Online also has the name Thanatos in there, it's a carrier I'd like to be able to peacefully fly one day and multibox pve without being bothered by a bunch of morons trying to destroy something everytime something good that's different is being created or loved because of how it's different
Story writers being against the main character from the start kinda shit, just like the story writers of the bible for instance look up that shit 😂, I can't remember the upgrade thing but I know I enjoyed it I just replayed a heap of levels to grow better with all the cool stuff making it easier, I didn't get to finish it on PS2 I'd like to go through it and some others on either the Ayn or the onexplay

Actually the official PS2 demo (which was only included in a couple of PAL and NTSC U demo discs), starts at a later stage.
I'm not aware of any Japanese demos tho, I would love to find it to datamine it, granted it exists.

Only on the original Japanese release for the PlayStation 2. In that version enemies deal a lot less damage and Legions need less EXP to level up.
