My grandfather worked for the IHB he retired back in 1992 . He worked there almost 40 years and he liked working there . He was a switchman, operator and worked in control towers in Hammond .
When I worked out of Barr, there were no remote control units. They came in, just as I was leaving for CN. I was an engineer there. Started in 98, left in 04 for CN
I can remember when the CSX's Barr Yard in the 1960s/70s was under then the Baltimore And Ohio, and had a NEON SIGN IN REDDISH PINK that bore it's name! Barr was busy then as it still is today! Those GP15T's were so small in wheelbase to handle those TIGHT Industrial Trackage Served around the South Suburbs!
It's cool to see some of those cabooses still in service. I thought they all retired ever since the railroads switched to those FREDs & other technology they have nowadays that replaced them.

Always love seeing older EMD power putting in work. Even if it is just switching cars around.
Nice zoom on that SP-tunnel...reminds me of my days at EMD melting off the snow and cabling the grid hatch
My dad helped on construction of Barr Yard in the 90s

A caboose is still required when a train is backing across a public Road, so the conductor has a place to flag from
@ArtStoneUS not really required.
