Very good explanation. I have had multiple occasions in my KIA Sonet IMT where I get the warning for transmission overheated and to park the car with engine on and in neutral gear. In Bangalore I encounter Bumper to Bumper traffic a lot of times where in the traffic never stops moving so you can't stop moving and need to constantly movE little by little. So like you said I keep moving little by little in 2nd gear (Sometimes 1st) but there is not enough gap between me and the car in front to actually press the Accelerator. So as per your explanation this is where the car still keeps clutch engaged since I'm not /cannot hit accelerator and transmission overheats. I contacted KIA service guys and only advice they could provide is to put the car on neutral whenever I get the chance but even this is difficult to do in the slow moving bumper to bumper traffic. This is the only headache with IMT :(
During a high speed if you want to apply break in IMT, can we change the gear to neutral and then apply break ? Is this a better approach or directly apply the break without think of ur current gear
You NEVER put the car in neutral during braking! Just apply the brakes, let it come down to a complete halt, then thank God that you are alive, and then carry on. Hope this helps 😊

But when i am pressing the accelerator clutch should not function anymore right.. why this concept of disengagement then. I am talking about this car only, sonet htk plus imt
See, it's pretty simple really if we understand how a clutch works. Engagement is gradual in first gear, and I don't know why people forget that. That's why I made this video 😃 Hope it helps!

In ideal circumstances, it should last as long as the clutch of a regular manual. However, since we can't have the ideal circumstances, expect a bit less life than its fully manual counterpart 😃

However, if, say, in the rare event of any of these parts failing, you would not only be stranded, but would also have to bear the cost of new parts. Whereas a fully manual gearbox has never failed on me in my over two and a half decades of driving. But I also haven't heard of anyone being stranded because his automatic's TCU/actuator/sensor conked off. So you don't have to be worried about it. But, since your question is whether a conventional manual is better economically and also more reliable than these new fads, the answer is an absolute YES! Hope this helps! 😃
Hi Just about to receive my Sonet iMT but am driving iMT seltos already. So just always had a question in my mind that normally we have this habit of driving with the left hand resting on gear liver. Is it unsafe to do so in iMT keeping clutch engagement and disengagement in mind?

The manual mode of AMT just holds on to each gear a little longer, that's it. It will upshift automatically near the redline if you fail to do so. The iMT won't. You WILL have to shift gears yourself in an IMT. Hope this answers your question 😃
@@RealAutoReviews Thank you. Since I use AMT manual mode a lot, if the RPM is above 2000 then shifting is possible. If I use pedal brakes when coming to stop, it downshifts easilt. Only time I downshift is when I do inclined driving else car will jerk completely.
IMT transmission sensor connect with brake and acceleration pedal via sensor work like ECU of engine control. Point of doubt is how can you self diagnose the fault when you sense that transmission system is failing to move smoothly on highway journey of expressway where RSA takes time to reach and owner manual is scatter to search of short solution to control the error.

Hi, Very informative video. However I own Hyunday venue sx imt and today I was stranded in middle of the road as mygear got stuck in Neutral and was not able shift gear. I had ti push the car to safe side.
I faced the same issue today with sonet gt imt...I had recently done 2 long trips this month and everything was fine. But today went somewhere, no issues during onward journey but while starting return journey all of sudden, it was not allowing to change gear to 1st. The vehicle was tolled away to service center but they checked everything and told all is well. Still not understanding how this happened to not even 3 year old vehicle. Saw your video and understood but can you guide me on what may have happened.

It is same as manual. While in traffic to creap we also use half clutch in 1st gear. IMT also doing the same. I don't see much difference. By the way it is a simple explanation.
Hi Shiraz, It was a great explanation. On the sun visor of Kia carens it is written "CAUTION. Do not press the break pedal by mistake during gear shift" ....at stand still you have to press the break and then engage first gear. Will this cause an issue to clutch? 2nd point..lets say, I'm on 4th gear and I have to break suddenly so much that I will end up at 2nd gear speed. When should I downshift? 3. Lets say I'm on 5th gear speed and I have to suddenly break to stop. When should I downshift?

@@schnellster1 Then treat the iMT exactly like those manual cars! I will have to ask KIA to remove that silly caution from that visor as it does nothing other than confusing the driver. The warning is there to remind people coming from manual cars to not use their left foot, which, due to muscle memory, automatically comes on the brake pedal (in lieu of the clutch pedal) before changing gears and it may cause an accident. They need to remove that caution as that reminder doesn't help one's muscle memory. 🤦
How to get better mileage? I've kia sonet 1.0 imt and i drive it very carefully, in city I'm getting around 12-13km/l (without ac) and with ac it is giving around 10-11km/l.

Lesson I learnt - shd not drive with partial braking which we generally do at 1st & 2nd gears. Dct is costly and iMT has solved most of the problems in heavy traffic or overtaking in highways
Very good explanation!! When driving in bumper to bumper traffic, my understanding is that when the car stalls, it would be good to move to neutral. When the car moves, then only move to 1st gear and press accelerator. Is this right?
If you are on a very steep slope in 1st gear, whats the maximum slip you can get? Will the clutch allow the engine to rev up to 4000 rpm also if needed? Or will the vehicle just stay in 1 place without moving. Or if you are badly stuck in an off-road situation. Also is there preset rev limit the system follows above which it will not slip the clutch eg no slip more than 2500rpm or some thing is it fully flexible? (more applicable for less powerful cars I know). Because 1 advantage of manuals is that you can really multiply engine power substantially for short periods like that.
Actually the car doesn't stall at all. You can just release the brake in the first or second gear, even without the accelerator and it crawls at a slow speed , and this is very helpful in bumper to bumper traffic.
Bhai at 15000 km my clutch plate and slave cylinder have broken. Paid 26000/- for repair at kia. nothing was under warranty. Im so disappointed. i have been driving for 20 years and i drive very normally. I had an alto 15 years no major issue like this, the last year i bought a swift did 20,000 kms in 1 year and its running perfect. I feel cheated with kia what to do plz help
That's sad,.but a definite outcome of using an IMT like an automatic. Honestly, KIA isn't at fault here. Also, clutch plates are NEVER covered in warranty/guarantee. You'll have to learn to drive it like a regular manual now.

And the same I experience in 2nd to 3rd. After that it's smooth. What should I do? Sometimes it seems that pickup is not good when there are 4-5 passengers in the car. Should I visit service center? What about when your shifting while driving ? Does the clutch only engage when u move the gear lever? And after shifting when does the clutch engage? Only when you throttle? 2. You said half clutch thing about creeping is bad. That holds good for all automatic transmission tight? The creep function in every car is bad for the clutch right? But in heavy traffic there’s no other option. But to use the creep function.

Great explanation. But it is mentioned in the sun visor of Sonet iMT that "Avoid changing gears while pressing brake pedal". In this video, you are changing gear while pressing brake pedal. Wont it hamper the transmission? Please explain the mechanism if known to you.

Can we downshift while pressing the brakes? Eg: Can we downshift from 3 to 2, while we are slowing down the car by applying brakes? Basically, is it okay to downshift when brakes are pressed??
@@RealAutoReviews Yes But in the booklet of the car there is a caution that says - not to press brake pedal by mistake during gearshift. I think they probably mean to say that - dont use the brake like clutch by completely pressing it suddenly
@@imprakrut No no, that's not what it means. People coming from manual transmissions initially tend to press the brake pedal from the LEFT foot while shifting from 1st to 2nd. Muscle memory! That's why the manual says to NOT press the brake pedal while shifting gears. It's primarily for upshifts. Hope this helps 😃
It does and that too BIG TIME. It doesn't in TCs and CVTs. In all other transmissions, which have a clutch pack but don't have a clutch pedal, creeping is harmful.

It won't harm or benefit the gearbox but it is DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS for your safety. Please don't do that EVER.

It means exactly what it says. Transmission is heating and you need to stop slowly, and not immediately where you are to avoid being rear-ended.

Let's say I'm approaching a red light, can I shift the gear to neutral from let's say the 3rd/2nd gear so that the momentum speeds carries me to the short distance and finally brake when I have to stop the car
You should NEVER do that! Always use engine braking, and shift to neutral only after coming to a complete halt.

It is same as manual. While in traffic to creap we also use half clutch in 1st gear. IMT also doing the same. I don't see much difference. By the way it is a simple explanation.

Hi Shiraz, It was a great explanation. On the sun visor of Kia carens it is written "CAUTION. Do not press the break pedal by mistake during gear shift" ....at stand still you have to press the break and then engage first gear. Will this cause an issue to clutch? 2nd point..lets say, I'm on 4th gear and I have to break suddenly so much that I will end up at 2nd gear speed. When should I downshift? 3. Lets say I'm on 5th gear speed and I have to suddenly break to stop. When should I downshift?

2) You downshift when you come to the speed for that gear.

@@schnellster1 Then treat the iMT exactly like those manual cars! I will have to ask KIA to remove that silly caution from that visor as it does nothing other than confusing the driver. The warning is there to remind people coming from manual cars to not use their left foot, which, due to muscle memory, automatically comes on the brake pedal (in lieu of the clutch pedal) before changing gears and it may cause an accident. They need to remove that caution as that reminder doesn't help one's muscle memory. 🤦

How to get better mileage? I've kia sonet 1.0 imt and i drive it very carefully, in city I'm getting around 12-13km/l (without ac) and with ac it is giving around 10-11km/l.
I shall try to make a video on that too. Until then, keep doing what you are, because that's good enough FE in the city with the AC on 😃

The car is new, i just completed 4k kms. Hope it will get better after some kms.
In highway, it gave me around 20-22km/l (between 80-90 km/s)
And if you're driving at 100 or plus, it would give around 17-18km/l.

Abhi tak to kisi ne Aisa kuch report nahi kara. Aur sensors hi sensors bhare huay hain gaadiyon mei aaj kal. So nothing to worry really with this one additional sensor 😃

M confuse with 3xo and htk turbo IMT budget is 12L, after this video m confident on IMT and have all features so probably will stick to Sonet.
Lesson I learnt - shd not drive with partial braking which we generally do at 1st & 2nd gears. Dct is costly and iMT has solved most of the problems in heavy traffic or overtaking in highways

Very good explanation!! When driving in bumper to bumper traffic, my understanding is that when the car stalls, it would be good to move to neutral. When the car moves, then only move to 1st gear and press accelerator. Is this right?
Absolutely! Exactly what you would in a car conventional with a conventional manual gearbox 😃

@@vigneshsekar34 you can't stall the engine in an iMT as well. It will not engage the clutch at standstill unless you are in first or second gear 😊
If you are on a very steep slope in 1st gear, whats the maximum slip you can get? Will the clutch allow the engine to rev up to 4000 rpm also if needed? Or will the vehicle just stay in 1 place without moving.
Or if you are badly stuck in an off-road situation.
Also is there preset rev limit the system follows above which it will not slip the clutch eg no slip more than 2500rpm or some thing is it fully flexible?
(more applicable for less powerful cars I know).
Because 1 advantage of manuals is that you can really multiply engine power substantially for short periods like that.
Actually the car doesn't stall at all. You can just release the brake in the first or second gear, even without the accelerator and it crawls at a slow speed , and this is very helpful in bumper to bumper traffic.
Bhai at 15000 km my clutch plate and slave cylinder have broken. Paid 26000/- for repair at kia. nothing was under warranty. Im so disappointed. i have been driving for 20 years and i drive very normally. I had an alto 15 years no major issue like this, the last year i bought a swift did 20,000 kms in 1 year and its running perfect. I feel cheated with kia what to do plz help
That's sad,.but a definite outcome of using an IMT like an automatic. Honestly, KIA isn't at fault here.
Also, clutch plates are NEVER covered in warranty/guarantee. You'll have to learn to drive it like a regular manual now.

1. U explained how the clutch gets disengaged and engaged while starting and stopping. What about when your shifting while driving ? Does the clutch only engage when u move the gear lever? So if it’s in 1st gear and you change to 2nd does the clutch engage after you’ve moved the gear because it should engage before you move the gear right? And after shifting when does the clutch engage? Only when you throttle?
2. You said half clutch thing about creeping is bad. That holds good for all automatic transmission tight? The creep function in every car is bad for the clutch right? But in heavy traffic there’s no other option. But to use the creep function.

Great explanation. But it is mentioned in the sun visor of Sonet iMT that "Avoid changing gears while pressing brake pedal". In this video, you are changing gear while pressing brake pedal. Wont it hamper the transmission? Please explain the mechanism if known to you.

I think they probably mean to say that - dont use the brake like clutch by completely pressing it suddenly
@@imprakrut No no, that's not what it means. People coming from manual transmissions initially tend to press the brake pedal from the LEFT foot while shifting from 1st to 2nd. Muscle memory! That's why the manual says to NOT press the brake pedal while shifting gears. It's primarily for upshifts. Hope this helps 😃

Creep function doesn't damage the clutch,even if you don't accelerate
It does and that too BIG TIME. It doesn't in TCs and CVTs. In all other transmissions, which have a clutch pack but don't have a clutch pedal, creeping is harmful.

@@RealAutoReviews hi, ब्रिज के चढ़ाई में या पहाड़ी रोड के चढ़ाई में अगर बंपर टू बंपर ट्रैफिक होने पर यह iMT car कैसे काम करती है या इसमे Hill Hold Assist जैसा प्रिमियम गाड़ीमे दियाहुवा नया फिचर दिया हुवा है। गाड़ी फर्स्ट गियर में उठाते वक्त अगर ढलान हो तो यह नई iMT ट्रांसमिशन वाली गाड़ियां पीछे कि तरफ आती है या नहीं। आम गाड़ियों में इस दौरान क्लच और ब्रेक से गाडी को आगे बढ़ाना पड़ता है।
