The correct name is Willie Gunn . I knew Willie when he fished the River Brora. He was chauffeur to the Duke of Sutherland and many times I saw him catch salmon in the Rock pool.

As usual great tying, well explained, great teacher, but being new at tying with tube flies and with little bodies, I’m to presume that the hook is free behind the fly and it cannot be held with a piece of tube. This is mainly my problem when to attach the hook with a piece of tube and what size hook . What size hook would you use in these models. Thank you Denis
Hi Denis, These are to be fished loose. I use a small piece of tubing on the hook to hold the knot in the right position. Personally i use my own SALAR hooks. on micros in size 11-15. When the fly got a normal body the FITS tubing in large and medium take any kind of normal tube hook.
Thanks Mikael. With your hitch fly....how do you select which hole for which bank? If I'm on the right bank for example, do I want the hitch wing to be lying upstream or down stream when it's fishing/swinging?
Hej Mikael! When fishing the hitch or small flies, do you pull the hook into the tubing or do you fish it loose? There seem to be two teams here with strong opinions. I am always a bit afraid to get missed bites when fishing it loosely? Would be great to hear your opinion! Thank you!

People do different, i fish it with the wing on the downstream side
If you're fishing from left bank you feed the leader in from that side and right for the right side and cast no more than 45 degrees 😉

I use both but not afraid at all to fish them loose ..taken hundreds of fish that way! Just go for it with out worries!

All up to conditions, but.. quite warm, a bit tint to the water.. and the Hitch when ever i want some serious surface action!

I use only SALAR and on this from 11-15 in size
