I remember a job application where the guy interviewing me casually walked off to 'catch some hardware they were developing for, and came back, tossing a toughbook into the room ahead back into the room to 'catch me of guard', and I happened to know what it was. So instead of being aghast, I was casually like 'oh neat, a toughbook.'
It took the application in a fun new (positive) direction. ^_^

7:44 On modern laptops the metal case actually is for rigidity and not for space savings, because the thickness of the case is the same, and therefore doesen't save any space, but the extra rigidity helps with the feel of the keyboard, and a more "premium" feeling device.
Edit: 13:55 The latop battery is 24,84Wh and the tablet battery is 37Wh, so it has even more capacity and not and not half of it.

I believe those are Magnesium alloy cases. Quite durable for its weight. I have two more modern toughbook cf-54's.

I often played around with the tought of getting a toughbook just to see if its actually built more sturdy or special or if ut was just a marketing gimmick

How about a hardened battle field Military Computer in a hard case?

I have older tablet, laptop, and cell phone that still work. I hate thin laptop/notebook because they look like they would break easy and hard to repair.
